How To Add Google +1 Button To Your WordPress Blog

Google recently introduced the +1 button as an answer to the Facebook Like button. However, Google +1 can have way more implications to your blog than Facebook Like. +1 is the future of Google search. By allowing users to give their stamp of approval on a site or search result, Google will be able to deliver a better user experience.

What all this means to you as a blogger is you need to add a +1 button to your blog immediately. The more people you get to +1 your post, the higher you could potentially rank for it. There are two ways to add a +1 button to your WordPress blog. The first involves a lot of code editing and hair pulling. However, the second method is pretty painless.

Install The Google +1 Button WordPress Plugin

I’ve got to add the +1 button, and all the other buttons too, still.

    2. I wonder if people will use this as much as Facebook Like?

      1. I wonder if it also has a dislike feature which is frequently abused for example on YouTube. I understand that any rating counts for more than no rating but rating with the intention to do harm rather than good to someone is pathetic.

      2. Yes that is also a matter of concern …. We will try to get as much as +1 we can because we know the benefit of it with seo prespective (and soon we will see many people started to sell +1 as well) but a normal user do not know about it and where facebook like button is one step ahead from it.

    3. Just installed it on one of my blogs. Got a bunch of other to put it on too.

      1. I look forward to reading what you*ll have to say about your experience with it. I hope you*ll share your insights here with us.

    4. Thanks for updating us with it and also providing us the solution with it.

Really apprecite it and as a result I am pressing +1 for you.

    5. I also add google+ button.

  2. WrestleBuzz says:

Cool stuff. I’ll make sure to try this out asap. Thanks for the tip!

    1. I hope it really helps with SEO.

      1. And soon you will see on different webmasters as selling service. So lets see how Google is going to handle it.

  3. Jack Kieffer says:

Added it via the plugin. Would love to figure out how to add it to my smart sharing scrollbar, too. Thanks for the tip!

Awesome stuff. Will add google +1 to my site soon. 😉

One nice thing about this is that as soon as you join the +1 experiment, all your Blogger blogs get the +1 button. Also, John, you forgot to mention that in order to use +1, people need to join the +1 experiment at http://www.google.com/experimental/

I think that this can have quite an impact in Search Engine Results Positioning!

    1. I don’t think that this is accurate. +1 button is visible to all and you don’t need to be a part of the experiment ot +1 articles on blogs. I think that experiment is just for +1 in search results. I might be wrong…

  6. Tikyd says:

I would not be surprised if people are able to manipulate this +1 button. i wonder if Google has taken enough disposition against that and what these are.

    1. You bet people will manipulate Google +1

      1. I am sure they will unless and until google will issue any warning to bloggers …. Like they did in buying links

  7. Abhik says:

I already started using it from the day it was out for public 🙂

    1. I gotta get on it, behind the curve.

    2. Those who have not used it yet surely missed the fun and a lot of features about Google +1… But you can still catch up. It is better late than never. You’ll never regret it.

      1. So did you noticed any improvement after adding it on your blog ?

  8. Kevin Kimes says:

John, last night and tonight I’ve had trouble getting to this site. I guess it was around the same time last night. I tried about 20 minutes ago and couldn’t get through. Tried on my iPhone (with wifi turned off) and that also didn’t work.

    DDOS or something?

Seems like we own so many things to Google that we can’t live without them. I dont understand why Google gives these things FREE? There is something you should answer..

    1. Hey Mike,

Are you sucking up to Google or don*t you have any understanding of how business works? The last time I checked Google is making tons of money. If they do anything for free on the one hand they rake in money on the other.

    2. There main earning is through adsense and their main strength is google search engine.

Just they are keeping balance in all their products and they are keep dominating the internet world.

  10. Louie Sison says:

Thanks John. It’s already installed on my site.

  11. I just heard about this sounds awesome

  12. fas says:

Very important button but most people dont know about it.

    1. Sooner or later they will come to know about it provided this will give positive results …

  16. Jun Ta says:

It was great. I had it, hoping it will improve more articles.

  17. Hey John,

As always you seem to be on top of your game. Google plus one sounds interesting. I don*t see it on your blog yet though, unless it is so inconspicuous that I missed it.

    I*ll have another look.

  18. Will add google +1 to my site soon.

  19. A lot of the ideas mentioned above are pretty much on point so i would also like to appreciate to you…

  20. Jack says:

+1 seems to have a potential but I think it’s going to take a while for it to be known among the general masses. I’m on the net every day for many hours and I didn’t even recognize what +1 is until I read this blog… they have an uphill ahead of them

  21. Elizbath says:

  22. ahh just what I need, thanks John.

  23. For example, it should not be confused with athlete’s foot. Athlete’s foot occurs in the skin of the foot and sometimes it is possible that nail fungus and athlete’s foot could occur concurrently.

  24. nice plugin, i’ll install it to my blog.
    Thank you

  25. Greg says:

I immediately installed the google button,

As I see it though,it is another attemp by google to enter the social networks. However with Google as an important blog legitimizer it is important to install

  26. Hi John,
I have it. It sounds like a great idea from Google of the +1 button. However we have to keep in mind that Google Wave also sounded like a great idea. The thing is it may work if Google is learning with their mistakes. Those mistakes started when they let Orkut decline, they have to start thinking more social and less engineered.

  27. Well Finally i add this to my blog and it is great.

  28. I have added this button to my blog

  29. Syed says:

I have added and i still don’t have any traffic any suggestions?

    1. Lets see what,s plan google have for it …

  30. 2mashaa says:

This is a great idea by Google I hope that the buttons popularity will grow with time

  31. There was a “sky is falling” post about this on the WarriorForum, with someone worried that this would soon take over more traditional SEO, that rankings would be based primarily around +1, etc. I definitely don’t believe all of that to be true, but do think the +1 is a nice addition (albeit late) to Facebook’s current offerings.

    1. I do not think that in near future like or vote button will rule the internet world. But however this depends how google is going to handle it.

  32. Cool add-on here John! 🙂

  33. Inbox Cash says:

Yes! Adding this right now. Select the Tall (60px) button size. The rest are too small for me.

  34. James says:

Actually, can added this google +1 button by adding 2 lines of PHP codes.Too many plugins would cause blog runs slow and heavy. But this is your choice.Installing plugin is the easier and faster way for new blogger.Anyway,Thank you for sharing!

  35. Its quit interesting to know about Google +1 button to use it in our wordrpress blog.

  36. Great to see this, now i also added that in my blog! thanks for the share

  37. This is an awesome plugin and +1 button is a must-have for any blog! I also recommend all to upgrade any sharing/bookmarking plugins like AddThis because they added +1 button in their latest upgrades. So if you’re using AddThis or some other sharing plugins on your blog, upgrade and just enable +1 button on your blog.

  38. It helps in providing good search engine results?
