How to Blog without Killing Yourself

Maybe I started a trend. After posting my hour long video on how I make $40,000 a month from a blog, my buddy Tim “Mr. 4 Hour Workweek” Ferriss has posted a 51 minute video on how to blog without killing yourself.

The original title of the presentation was “Scalable Blogging Behaviors: How to Grow from 1 to 1,000,000 Readers” but I guess Tim thought that was too long and changed it. However, the content did not change. In the video, Tim covers the following topics:

  • Why I blog
  • How I blog and select best practices
  • Frequency and tools — best times and days to post
  • Blogging myths and how to harness data for better results
  • Testing design and surprising findings that can be copied
  • How I address comments and community building
  • How I write and research for good social media response
  • 20 minutes of audience Q&A on Twitter, branding, outsourcing, and much more

Just like my video, I recommend you get a drink, grab a bite to eat and pull up a chair because you’re going to want to watch this from beginning to end.

Let’s hope you make it Alex. Suicide is slow with blogging, WordPress is fine but Twitter is quicker. Just a tip.

It’s the people who have time to watch it I worry about. 50 = 2 good articles on your own websites. More people need to concentrate on creating content than consuming it.

Yes, that doesn’t make sense. If you can choose what to do, you should choose something that gives you fun and enjoyment.

It is all different matter if you don’t have the luxury of choice and must do what you are told or what you can get.

    2. I agree with the others. It should be fun & if it’s not, you’re doing something wrong or you’re just in it for the money. I will never understand the people that blog when they don’t even like it.

Just finished the video. Lots of good points. Especially liked the points on: -Deleting the negative commentors that add nothing worthwhile to your blog. -Putting the Post Creation date on the bottom of the actual post page. -Showing the Current Hits vs All Time on his homepage. There were many more that I wrote down. Definitely worth the 50 minutes if you get the time to watch it.

  27. I usually don’t have time to watch this kind of thing. But this one is really worth it. I’m going to rewatch it and take more notes tomorrow as I’m currently using Joomla and would like to know more about WordPress. For people debating whether to watch this or not… watch it! Here are a few highlights: “Measure the things that Matter”, “Low resitance to entry points to complex or long material”, “Twitter, Slinkset, Evernote”, “The important thing is not being a good writer, it’s having a voice”, “Find your best writing or synthesis period”, “Ignore SEO for the first Draft”… just lots of really good stuff here.

  28. Looks like a good video, I will have to check it out if I get a chance.
