Ryan Shamus has put up a great big tutorial on how to create, market and make money off a viral video and order this review to help promote it. Pretty much everyone I met at the Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas agreed that video is going to be the next big thing. I’m trying to add more videos to this blog and I’m talking to some of the other Dot Com Pho goers about starting a weekly video podcast.

A viral video can take on a life of its own (that’s why it’s viral) and if you can create one, it can send you more traffic than being on the front page of Digg. It can make you more money too - if you monetize it correctly. According to Ryan, the most important factor in creating a viral video is being unique.

The most important thing to consider when you are trying to create a viral video is that it needs to be something unique, informative, funny or something that captures the attention of the audience’s interest level. Viral videos gain effectiveness by the amount of people that it comes into contact with. And, it will only get passed around if it is really great.

This is one of the funniest videos quickly spreading round the net. It has nearly 10 million views so far! Imagine if you, as a marketer were the creator of this video.

Don’t have the talent to make your own video? No problem. Ryan’s post shows you how to make money off any current video on Youtube or other video sharing sites.

Dammit, John. I’m moments from hitting the sack and you have to show that video. I’m going to have that song running around my head all night now!

On a more serious note, I couldn’t agree with Ryan more. I think we’re getting to that point where if you’re not doing video, you’re being left behind.

I agree with you Jamie. Ryan has some good points but there are also points he raised that I beg to disagree. While its true that viral video is getting noticed now but as far as monetization i don’t think so if there are hundreds of bloggers who can claim to earn much on this viral videos.

people seem to like your website though, maybe cause they feel good that they are much more better looking than you **** face.

Don’t really find the video funny but i’m not the one that matters i guess. Also Viral is really the keyword at hand here because 99% of videos get almost zero traffic. Put up a video on making money online and see how many will actually view it.

‘Marketers’ tend just to rip off what is already popular. Case in point Sugar Puffs UK ripping off MightyBoosh, Sac La ripping of some beat boxer. Most advertising companies are lame. But you won’t get your average marketing video viral at all.

I have played with flash video on my block and was able to embed an entire video based flash site into the header of my wordpress blog. Each video streams in via flv its the way of the web.
    Keep up the good work

I actually heard on the news (perhaps a sarcasm didn’t catch it from the beginning) that soon there won’t be enough providers to support internet/bandwidth for all people hah!

Anyway the more entertaining things are, the more easy to understand they are the more they will be used. Would you prefer reading a history book about a battle somewhere or actually watch the movie about that battle based on history book?

Anyway we struggle about money and stuff, but that dude on the video is having lots of fun and entertaining other 10 million people :P , which one is more fun?

Johnnie boy - that is really quite an interesting video and so is your latest S*%@ video on YouTube  LOL - Anyways I think this is a great post because video is IN everyone. I post daily videos on my blog with a text post and I am ranking high in Google these days because of my efforts. I submit my videos to YouTube and they bring me loads of new traffic…

You must indeed be creative and only post a video you are confident in. Just like John always says (and he’s right) be original, don’t do it just for the money and have fun with it…bring out your passions and the money will come naturally from your sincere efforts. I don’t think this “big dancing boy” featured on the video planned on becoming the most laughed at YouTube video. You can watch it again and see just how passionate he is about acting fruity, wild and not scared to be himself in front of the cam ; ) Keep these tips in mind and you can all go far with video, I sure have. I encourage you all to at least try it a few times and see the response…I’ll end my book here, LOL

You can come see my blog videos for an idea of how one can video blog along side a textual post. Great Post Johh…You need more video too my friend. We want to see you live in action, show us your money sometime, hehe. That would make the first page of Digg for sure.

There is no doubt that a clever viral video will drive traffic to your site. However, I disagree with the idea that a video unrelated to your core content will build your site. It may drive traffic to your site, but not the targeted traffic you may want to build loyal viewers. I run a health site and I am adding more video to the site, though no original stuff yet, but I could not create a video like the example shown. Some of the videos, like the one shown, to me are mildly retarded and frankly I think it is sad crap like that gets 10 million views. Go ahead, pile on, but it is true. Frankly, I think the best way to make money with viral video is to create something like the horrid example above, but make sure to get involved with revenue sharing sites like revver so as the video is shared, you are getting a cut of each view even when not on your site.

The music on the background is one of the most songs all over Europe in 2007 and it`s still now. “O-zone” are the guys that sing it. This song from “Ozone” and not only , is now spreading all over Asia and the United States. What`s funny about the song is the “Guy” in it… not really what being sang. So I guess everyone gets the idea why this song is famous. :D

I am from Holland and I would like to say that I love your site. It has got good content and it’s funny what the title is of your blog.

Futher more I think it’s true that video is the next thing that will get big for blogging. In Holland most of the blogs have got about 90% video’s in the blogs (flabber.nl, yeos.nl etc.). It’s funny to see that old video again from the numa numa guy :P.

I read Ryan’s post, and I must admit I do not agree with a couple of his suggestions to give misleading titles/labels to videos, and then readjust as needed. I believe it is tactics such as these that give those in affiliate marketing a bad name, as a type of bait-and-switch. I know from personal experience that when I search for a video on YouTube and other sites and I get videos that have NOTHING to do with what I am looking for, I will add any referenced website to my list of do-not-visit sites (yes, I actually have a list). Tricking a visitor into visiting your site is no way to gain repeat visitors.

Just my opinion, but I’m sure there are others who might agree.

Besides that, great post John. Keep up the great work!!!
