How To Deliver Smarter Auto Responders With Send Windows

When sending out an email broadcast to your subscribers, you always want to be choose the day and time that will give you the maximum open rate. This generally means not sending on the weekend or at 10:30 at night, since you know subscribers will get other emails between then and when they check your email. Scheduling your mailing is easy enough with a service like Aweber, but what about the auto responder?

Most auto responder systems offer a send after x number of days features but have no options to control the exact time the email goes out. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to control the auto responders like the way we control a normal email broadcast? With the new Aweber Autoresponder Send Windows, you can do just that.

The Autoresponder Send Windows feature provides more powerful control of autoresponder scheduling, so you can choose both days of the week and times of day you’d like to restrict your sending schedule to. For example, you might judge that your best results would be achieved sending messages strictly on weekdays, between 9am to 3pm. By using Autoresponder Send Windows, you can customize the scheduling to your preference. And when you turn on geographic awareness, the system will automatically adjust delivery to each subscriber’s time zone – no matter where they are in the world. So, if you tell Aweber to deliver your follow up in the morning, then everyone will get their email when it’s morning to them.

thanks, i didnt know about this feature of aweber

    1. Abhik says:

You probably need to go though the Aweber KB. They have some hidden treasure.

    2. Zach Crawley says:

I know, it’s awesome that I can do this now! I use to send at 10pm .. because that’s was the best time for me .. I get my least open rates at that time.

      1. PPC Ian says:

Same story here! This will totally help me! 10pm or later is ideal for me but now I can schedule my emails.

  2. Chris says:

Definitely a great new feature of Aweber. I’ve been taking advantage of it myself, and noticing some definite improvements to my open rates when using it.

What about mail chimp it is free and does virtually the same ?
That`s not a bad article for a Dot Com Mogul

    1. John Chow says:

Virtually the same is not the same. The free account is almost all but worthless. It’s free for up to 2,000 name but the really limiting factor is the 12K send out. While most with a free account won’t hit the 2K name limit, they will run into the 12K send limit and that’s when they’ll hit you with the bill (that’s the reason why a free account goes up to 2000 name but a paid account goes to 500). Keep in mind that their prices are only cheaper on the lower end but more expensive on the higher end. As your list gets bigger, you’ll end up paying far more than Aweber.

      1. Abhik says:

There are some pay as you go plans too..

        1. John Chow says:

They are even more expensive. Also, why would anyone pay as you go on an email list? That’s the foundation of your blog.

      2. Hey John,

That is a excellent reply. I hope everybody who is keen on knocking down AWeber and promoting services like Chimp reads this. I*m really getting tired of the tirades some people go on when they judge people like you who like Aweber saying that people who promote Aweber do it only for the money.

      3. Graham Lutz says:

Is it terribly complicated to change services once you get to those higher numbers?

        1. John Chow says:

Changing service is all but impossible because of the CAN SPAM rule. The new service will require you to re-opt-in everyone. You’ll lose about 80% of your list.

      4. Graham Lutz says:

GetResponse has a free option as well, up to 200 names. Similar issue as mailchimp?

        1. John Chow says:

GetResponse is even worst. They start off cheap but the price goes to $65 per month once you get to 1001 names!

  4. I’m really impressed with this feature, Aweber pushes the limits of email marketing!

    1. Abhik says:

I agree!! Aweber indeed is the best email marketing software out there.

      1. PPC Ian says:

I use AWeber and have been incredibly happy with the product. I highly recommend it!

    2. I agree with you on… I have been benefiting from the so many advantages of Aweber and I am so glad to promote it to everyone.

  5. Kevin Kimes says:

John, get out of my head! I was actually thinking about this last night. It feels like more than coincidence that you’re mentioning it today. 🙂

I didn’t think there was a way to schedule the autoresponders in relation to real-time, only x-time after subscribing, as you mentioned. For me, I want to schedule them to only send on certain days of the week, which this solves completely.

I’ve already got an Aweber account, so knowing they’ve added this is another problem checked off the list.

  6. DrDarko says:

The geographic awareness is the greatest feature of this. Being in Europe, while the most visitors are from US, really made timing a very important thing.
Now, if I understood correctly, I can say that I want all e-mails sent out at 10am, they will be sent at the local 10am for each time zone?
    Great improvement…

    1. John Chow says:

That is correct. The subscriber will get the follow up based on his time zone.

      1. Abhik says:

        Amm!! I don’t think so.
When I choose to send my followups/broadcasts to send at 13:00pm aweber time, I get one myself at 10:00am IST.

        1. John Chow says:

The time zone for geographic targeting is based on IP address. If you got your follow up at the wrong time then it means you didn’t turn on geographic targeting.

        2. Kevin Kimes says:

And if you did turn it on, contact support, they should be able to fix it.

Or, your particular IP address might be resolving to the wrong geo location?

  7. Christy says:

    John,

This article was absolutely perfect timing. I was just sitting here thinking about the best time of the day to send out my autoresponder messages, and was wondering if Aweber actually had that feature, as I just started using them (actually piggybacking on my husband’s account). I am excited to test different times to see if I get different results.

Do you use their Email Analytics, as that seems like a great feature allowing you to see what each of your subscribers actually click on? I would love to hear from anyone actually using that feature and to hear their results.

    Thanks,

    Christy (a.k.a. Daily Deal Girl)

    1. John Chow says:

Yes, I use email analytics. You should use it. One nice feature of Analytics is that it removes the clicks.aweber.com and replaces with your own domain for better branding.

      1. Christy says:

Thanks John! I was wondering if users seeing that click.aweber.com might scare them off from actually clicking a link as they have know idea where it is taking them. That just sold me on getting my husband to upgrade his account, as we did not know that the links were replaced. Now I am super excited… thanks again 🙂

        1. Kevin Kimes says:

I think it definitely can scare them off. “Slightly savvy” users know to look at the URL, and at that knowledge level they will automatically think “unknown domain is bad, no click!”

Glad to have found out about the analytics also.

  8. I always impressed by your work I appreciate to you by this great offer thanks for the Aweber offers John.

  9. Chris says:

  12. Andrew says:

As for me, I prefer to do everything manually, though it takes a lot of time, but the process is fully under my control.

  13. Aweber is impoving its services every day it is by far the best autorespoder on the market!

  14. PPC Ian says:

Great post! I’m totally guilty of sending out broadcast messages on AWeber at 10:30 at night!

  15. Good service but I prefer Aweber

Great article John. As an American who lives on the other side of the world from most of my readers, and from most Internet marketers back there in North America, I am always chuckling at how so many of them completely ignore global issues.

  20. Thank you for your nice post.
