How To Do Indirect Marketing
written by John Chow on May 5th, 2008
In the following video, Market Leverage demonstrates the art of indirect marketing in eight easy steps. Indirect marketing is the process of hitting your target by targeting something that the target cares about.
I want to thank Market Leverage for the care package. I can tell they put a lot of thought into it because I know other bloggers have received these packages and so far, no two have been the same. I think there’s a good lesson to be learned here. Watch the video and see how it’s done.

That Market Leverage is showiing up everywhere. I think I need to join and find out what it’s all about and get some stuff too, after I make a few bucks.
Reply to this commentMarket Leverage doesn’t state that they only send out these care packages to their top affiliates. I’m sure they forget about the little guy like every other network out there.
Reply to this commentWell you do have to earn your keep you know, that is how the system works. I hope to earn a bag of cool goodies soon.
Reply to this commentTotally agree and i follow too.
Reply to this commentThe fact that you are curious about Market Leverage and want to join shows all of us the power of marketing!!
Reply to this commentYes i have notice it -They are everywhere this week
Reply to this commentNice work Market Leverage and yes twitter is a great source of traffic!
Reply to this commentTwitter FTW
Reply to this commentThat’s a very good idea to send products to a popular blog then he’s gonna parade for all the readers. My budget doesn’t allow me to do that yet but pretty soon it’ll does.
Reply to this commentI wanna receive free products too.
Thanks John for advice on Market Leverage,I think I will learn deeply on that.
Reply to this commentYa only popular blogs get this free stuff
Reply to this commentNot really, depends how good you are at selling I guess…
Reply to this commentWell, being good at selling is directly related, in large part, to the popularity of your blog.
Reply to this commentwow talk about personal marketing
I guess if they can’t get into your pants.. they will shower you with baby gifts! Though I could always use a new shirt, or even a Nike bag!
Reply to this commenthow do these companies know your address, John?
Thanks,
Anna
Reply to this commentMost likely from my business card.
Reply to this commentdo they send products to your house or to your business address?
Reply to this commentThey’re the same.
Reply to this commentYou ever worry about letting too many people know your address??
Reply to this commentYes, I was wondering the same… Is it safe to share your home address. Well I live in NY so maybe I’m a little paranoid…
Reply to this commentYour neighbors know where you live. People who find you in the phone book know where you live. It’s not really that hard to find out where a person lives, or where a person will be if you really wanted to, so why worry about that kind of crap?
If you’re an under-aged child, then yeah it might be good to protect your identity for weirdo’s online, but besides that what does it really matter? If you’re going to get “targetted” for anything, it could just as easily be some weirdo at the Credit Card company you deal with that has your address, or the bank you deal with, or the pizza delivery guy, or the guy walking down the street, or some guy at a restaurant, or some girl on the bus…etc.
Why worry about such things?
Reply to this commentYou address are in more places than you know. Phone book, business inquiries, credit inquiries all show way more about you than you ever want to give. Unfortunately, total confidentiality is non-existent in our world today so might as well stop worrying!
Reply to this commentHow much does the package cost?
Reply to this commentI have no idea. How much would you pay for it?
Reply to this commentIt was a nice gift bag but I’m sure it cost less than a $500 review me!
Reply to this commentGreat point
Probably now we will all try to send John something to get a post
Reply to this commentThat was a pretty nice bag of goodies there John and Sally took right to the teddy bear. Very cute.
Reply to this commentThat was absolutely adorably when Sally embraced the bear and didn’t care to focus on anything else until the USB pen.
Reply to this commentif someday i be like JC or more than that, a top blogger, i will giveaway a 60 inch plasma tv or maybe viper…haha
Reply to this commentI think part of the reason why you think this way is because you aren’t a top blogger yet. Once you are, you wouldn’t have the urge to give out what you have already.
Reply to this commentLove it. The top looks great on Sally & I like how she hugged the bear.
I’ll have to check out the company’s site. And Google must like them because they come up in the suggestion box when you type their name into the toolbar search.
Reply to this commentI sure hope you weren’t pointing the knife (I think) too close to Sally when you were opening the package.
Anyways, it seems like Market Leverage is doing a heck of a job by sending out tons of care packages to bloggers all over the blogosphere
-Mike
Reply to this commentPS:- How often you keep getting such free goodies

Reply to this commentI also loved when Sally immediately embraced the bear in a… bear hug - gave me a big smile.
The targeted gifts were definitely a good idea. Shoemoney got UFC DVD’s, John got gifts for Sally, and Zac got a plaque for his recently deceased dog and a boating clock I believe too.
Great simple, yet effective, marketing by Market Leverage for sure.
I certainly enjoyed my package today as well
Reply to this commentWhat was in your package, Tyler?
Reply to this commentI did a blog post yesterday as well..
Reply to this commentThanks. I’ll check it out.
Reply to this commentThey forget to include me in the list
Reply to this commentWow, that’s awesome… they definitely know what they’re doing.
Reply to this commentlololol god damn john chow rules
Reply to this commentwow.. very nice lol. They really did a good job finding out all the details about you
Reply to this commentI spoke to them today. They have someone dedicated to studying the “blogosphere” and knowing all about us. THey’re watching us.
Reply to this commentGreat package… I hope Sally could be real ‘blogger future’ like you John…
Reply to this commentJohn,

Well I saw that Shoemoney had his little girl in one of these shirts…
Reply to this commentWell, I wish I could watch the video but I work for a corporation and they’re paranoid I may learn something from a video.
Reply to this commentThe problem with this is that you are wasting some money marketing to those not in your target market, could be expensive if you get it wrong
Reply to this commentNot really…their “packages” have stirred up quite a bit of publicity in the blogosphere. I only hope they don’t just target a few top bloggers in the beginning as a publicity “stunt” and then ditch the process later on.
I think this “hands on, we care about you” attitude really works.
I signed up with them, and spoke to them this morning because I want to work with a company that behaves this way. Hopefully they keep that same intention behind everything they do. So far so good though. Very pleasant to deal with so far.
Reply to this commentactualli what is Market Leverage???cause i’m a beginner……still dont know………..
Reply to this commentMarket Leverage is a network
Reply to this commentMarket Leverage is a CPA ad network, but they are proving they aren’t your average network. Pretty cool marketing blitz they’re doing lately. I joined up today and I’m waiting to get a call from an affiliate manager tomorrow. Looking forward to working with them.

Reply to this commentHey, awesome video John! You’re girl is too cute!
Reply to this commentGood video John. It does tell some information on market leverage. Will try to follow your advices.
Reply to this commentYou know what John, out of all your posts you do and have done my favorite ones are the personal ones you do, and the ones in video as well.
Reply to this commentActually they do care about the little guys as well.
They sent me a shirt and a hat.
I will post the pics on my blog tonight.
Reply to this commenthttp://www.affiliatesmiami.com
It got the wheels of my brain turnin’, thanks for the post John.
Reply to this commentTo me, indirect marketing is getting a person interested in you by showing that you are part of something else they are already interested in OR SOMETHING THEY MAY ACQUIRE AN INTEREST IN.
For example: Your target market is interested in X. You show an interest in X. Your target market then looks at you.
This is basically what John was saying, so I definitely think he’s on target.

Reply to this commentZac Johnson also got a package from Marketing Leverage
Reply to this commentThat’s where I saw it first. He got that plaque for his dog. I like it so much I signed up that same day.
Reply to this commentYour title for this post proves to be capable of creating its very own niche market.
I think that indirect marketing will be more effective and create an over all more pleasant experience.
Thanks for the insight.
