How To Make Money Online with Prepop and Aweber

written by John Chow on December 20, 2009

Make Money!

Prepop is short for pre-populate. It is mostly used for email submit offers but it’s also a fantastic way to increase the conversion rate for an email marketing campaign. Instead of having the user fill in his name and email into the respective fields, the fields are pre-populated with the user’s information. In other words, the fields already contain the user’s name and email address. All the user has to do is hit the submit button.

Prepop offers are based on the fact that people are lazy and the less work you give them, the higher your conversion rate. Everything else being equal, a prepop offer will convert much higher than an offer where the user has to fill in the information and then hit the submit button.

An Example of a Prepop Offer

When Shoemoney created his landing page for Shoemoney System, he made the name and email field pre-popable. For example, if I wanted to send the page to my friend Jeff and I know his email is jeff@gmail.com, I would send him the following link:

http://shoemoneysystem.com/?c=ttznet&name=Jeff&email=jeff@gmail.com

When Jeff clicks the link, he’ll be taken to the Shoemoney System landing page with his name and email already filled in.

Pre-Pop Offer

All Jeff has to do hit the “GO!” button and he’ll be opted in. Not only does this make it easier for Jeff to opt in but it also have a psychological effect. When a user sees his name and email already filled in, he almost feels compelled to hit the submit button.

The problem with the above example is I have to send a unique link to everyone on my list. As you can imagine, this can be an extremely time consuming endeavor. However, thanks to Aweber, there is a better and faster way.

Prepoping The Aweber List

Readers who are on my mailing list would have gotten an email from me last week about Shoemoney System. I received many emails asking how I managed to have their names and emails already filled in on the landing page. This is how it’s done.

One of the great features of Aweber is its ability to automatically append user data to a thank you or landing page. In the case of my email about Shoemoney System, the link went like this.

http://www.shoemoneysystem.com/?c=ttznet&email={!email}&name={!name_fix}

With the above link, Aweber will automatically change the {!email} into the subscriber’s email address and {!name_fix} into the subscriber’s name and enters that information into the corresponding fields on the landing page. Everyone on my list got the same link but Aweber filled in the subscriber’s name and email for me.

Having subscriber data pre-populated resulted in over 12% of the click-thoughs opting into Shoemoney System. This is an incredible opt in rate. Had the fields not been pre-popable, I would have never been able to achieved that kind of conversion.

How To Find Prepop Offers

Market Leverage Prepop

Most affiliate networks have prepop offers. The above is a screen shot of a few prepop offers from Market Leverage. Generally, any affiliate network that uses Direct Track or Link Trust will have support for prepop offers. However, the easiest way to find out if the networks you belong to offers prepop is to ask your affiliate manager.

The prepop offers from Market Leverage pays $1.20 to $1.90 per lead. If I could achieve the same opt in rate to the ML prepop offers as I did for Shoemoney System, I would make $144 to $228 for every 1,000 emails. Try getting that kind of CPM rate from Google ads! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the money is in the list.

Try Aweber for Only $1.00

If your blog doesn’t have an email list, you are really missing out big time. My mailing list is the number one reason the blog makes the income that it does. Aweber is the best email service I have ever used. Their feature set is beyond anything else in the industry and the ability to pass subscriber information for prepop offers is just another example of how to make money with it.

Aweber offers a $1 trial account for all new customers. The account is just like a normal Aweber account and includes unlimited email campaigns, newsletter, broadcasts and follow ups. It’s a great way to test drive Aweber to see what it can do for your blog. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you find that email marketing is not for you, contact Aweber within 30 days and they’ll give you the $1 back.

This is great advice, thanks for sharing it. A list is always a good way to make extra money and making it easy for the visitor by pre-filling the fields is a good way to get more subscribers.

Thanks for sharing this little nugget, John.

Phil.

This is the way, we can show to our visitors that they can subscribe by doing little. john, you are right, who fills the form in todays world.

Simple, but brilliant. Web surfers are lazy by nature, filling in the required fields for them makes sense. Thank you for bringing this strategy to light :)

This is an Interesting Posts
The strategies makes it easier for people to Subscribe to ones offers as so many people are kinda too lazy to always type their names and emails to every promotions.

So this helps take out that stress so long as the Offer seems Interesting

Thanks John

Pre-pop sounds great. I bet it greatly increases signup rates.

Hard to find pre pop offers on many networks like Azoogle, clickbank, Neverblue and Commission Junction.

Hard to find pre pop offers on many networks like Azoogle, clickbank, Neverblue and Commission Junction.

You must say that they are very advanced version and giving the value of every penny you spend on them.

So just get to know about everything so that you can capitalise at full.
kora flash

really? aweber give back 1 dollar if we email them? haha..thats good marketing. :)

Great content on this site thank you for the info One of the big problems is that the most popular money making programs are written by people that forgot what it's like to be new. These guys seem to think that building web pages, using FTP programs, and creating PDFs is common knowledge. The thing is most of us just don't have the experience and knowledge that these guys take for granted that we should. It almost seems that they are cursed by that knowledge and cannot effectively communicate with someone brand new to the whole Internet Marketing thing. You won't be quitting your day job right away but it will definitely help to get you started in making money online

Hey man. There are some things I would like to say to you.

1. I think your blog is truly awesome, fantastic and all of those fancy words. I've subscribed to your RSS-feed, and everytime you update your blog - I read the latest post... no matter where I am. It could be on my mobile or on my computer. It doesn't matter. Your blog simply owns. I will therefore link to it from one of my tech blogs if that's okay with you.

2. Why does everybody keep spamming your blog? Gah, all the comments are invaluable, and will be counted as spam-comments by Google. How about enabling Akismet or turning on comment moderation? It gets a bit annoying when you're trying to look for valuable information.

Anyway, don't let me waste your time... keep up the good work!

This is great information. And I couldn't agree more "the money is in the list"!!!

I must say, I'm impressed with the ingenuity of Pre-pop. People are quite lazy, so you can't really expect them to sign up with you every time. This creation will really be helpful. Thanks a bunch! :)

The bottom line is that people are lazy, even more so in the internet world, and while pre-filling forms out is such a simple ploy, the conversion rate tells the story.....heheheheheh

Thanks for sharing.
This is a easy and faster way to get people to sign up whatever you want it to. But one question, how to you get the targetted customers information?

John, thanks for your email of shoemoneysystem. I love that video. it is really great!

Hi John, I assume passing these variables to the shoemoney URL is only useful if the shoemoney URL is designed to accept them?

In your email on aweber you put the url of shoemoney with the variables to replace name and email in the url, but the shoemoney landing page is designed to take those variables yes? Is that something that Jeremy has setup for that landing page, or do you simply need to know the form field names?

Cheers,
Kevin.

Yes the landing page has to be setup to accept variables and Shoe did set it up that way. If the page accepts prepop, then all you need to know is the name of the fields to fill in the information.

Hi John,

Great tips on the prepop, it makes easier for customer where they do not need to enter their credentials again

Cheers
Thurai

Great post. Aweber is still the most popular autoresponder out there and will help you with all of your email marketing campaigns,

I have GetResponse as my autoresponder, I think you can do the same thing.

Wow yeah. Incredible.

Hey Jon, what timing you have man. I am doing a webinar with Mark Roth at OfferVault.com tomorrow night on this EXACT topic.

~ Corey

Thanks for the great tip John!

To get the success as professional blogger you have to take these kind of paid ones.

If you want to be a serious blogger than do not go for free thing.

Getting a few fields to "customize" the message is a simple (and old) 1-on-1 marketing gimmick. One way to look at it is that it doesn't even make you better; it just brings you up to par with everyone else.

As usual, great post! We use Aweber but didn't know abut Prepop. It's important to make things easy for our users.

Love how your info is clear and actionable!

PrePop really helps you get some killer conversions.

seeing the $1 for first month offer from aweber, i dont really see any reason for people not to bite the bullet. the offer is just awesome

Yes adding little price is good instead of giving it free of cost. Because adding price and free of cost both give different impression in the mind of people who read it.

Hi Jhon, thanks for this great information.

i dont know how to use aweber, but i must go to that site

Pre-popable offers are good. I make around $500 per month with these offers. Less work with more returns.

I use Aweber and its a great product, love it.

Thanks for this useful information John. As always an informative and well written post.
Thanks for sharing this information

This really is an awesome idea.

I knew you could do such thing with AWeber but the prepop is quite nice!

That you will be able to almost already optin. TBH this really rocks!
