How To Make Money with Google Natural Search

written by John Chow on July 31, 2009

Make Money!

I have shown you how search traffic has increased significantly since Google let me back into their search engine. With this post, I want to show you one of the ways I’ve been monetizing this new traffic.

Ramped Reviews Case Study

Ramped Reviews is an ebook written by Robb Sutton on how to start a review site or blog, get free stuff to review and make a lot of money at it. I wrote the review back on July 10 and sold quite a few copies. However, like most blogs, once the post goes off the front page, sales goes to pretty much nothing because no one checks the archives.

Shortly after writing the review on Ramped Reviews, Google let me back into their index. This resulted in me ranking for the phase “how to start a review blog” and other related keywords.

Mind you, there wasn’t enough search volume from this set of keywords to bring any significant traffic. A check of the Google AdWords keyword tools shows it doesn’t have enough data to tell me how many times each month that phase is searched. However, my Google Analytics showed that between July 16 to today (July 31), Google sent 35 visitors who were searching for information on how to start a review blog to the Ramped Review post. This was the result.

Four visitors went on to purchased a copy of Ramped Review, with the latest sale coming in at 12:52am on July 31. Now, $80 of eBook sales isn’t anything to write home about but look at it this way. The review is up and indexed by Google, which is sending it enough traffic to generate four sales in two weeks. If this trend holds, it will make $160 a month in Ramped Review sales. That’s $1,920 a year from one blog post!

As I’ve stated, “how to start a review blog” isn’t a highly searched phases (it’s very targeted however). To make good money, you need to target keywords and phases with more volume and send them to an matching affiliate offer. Something like this.

What I’ve been doing is basically what The Number 1 Way To Make Money Online has been teaching – build a niche content site, have Google send it traffic and make money with targeted affiliate offers. As you can see from the screen shot below, It’s a fantastic business model.

Keep in mind, all this is coming from only ONE BLOG POST. If you can rank for a highly searched term and find a good matching offer, you can make a lot of money with this business model. If you want to learn the step-by-step on how this is done, then I recommend you sign up for The Number 1 Way To Make Money Online. At only $24.95, it’s an absolute steal.

You obviously put a lot of work into that post and its very interesting to see the thought process that you went through to come up with those conclusion. Thanks for sharing your deep thoughts. I must admit that I think you nailed it on this one.
I'm new to the blogging business. I'd love to learn more about this topic. I've bookmarked your blog. Looking forwards for your new posts.

Blogging is not easy money at all. It requires patience, relevant skills, as well as dedicated work.
I think, just as in the real life, there are no short cuts to making money in blogging as well. If you see it closely, a lot of principles that apply to other businesses apply to blogging as well.

how google search box work? how can I start getting money?

I like the idea of trying to match particular keywords with affiliate products to promote.

Wish I had the money for this -- was recently scammed out of $500 by some programmers :l

I've bookmarked it though, and will definitely consider purchasing it when I've got the dough. :)

the layout is very convincing.

What I like about the search engine traffic is conversion. You will get high percentage of conversion if you will get through search engine.

Dang John, your volume of visitors are just sooo high that you earn a lot more money than some of us make on our sites in a year...

-Mike

It is good to be back in google search result.

John I want to get into blogging but I don't know how. The money sounds good but I just really want to know how the public view the topics that really interest me.

FREE Google organic traffic rocks. It always good to be on first page. Identifying those untapped long tail keywords with high traffic is the key.
John, over the years you have build that trust factor. Getting back in google index will bring in extra cash to you.

Lucky You, but we really need to work hard to drive traffic to our blog,

I have achieved SERP #1 page ranking for couple of keyword and they are sending some great traffic to my site, i know i need at least 8 to 10 more keyword that ranks of SERP page no. 1 to build a strong blog brand.

I just knew that writing a review of a blog can become a profession. But I don't think that people can make a lot of money from it. Most bloggers prefer to write review about movies, books, and products such as the ones sold by Amazon.com

Quick question John. Do you do anything else after you post to your blog? e.g. any social bookmarking?

Not really. I just send it out to Twitter Facebook but that's it.

Sounds good, any way to make more money is great news

That is pretty good. It is jammed packed with a lot of information in it. Thanks for sharing. Greg Ellison

If you rank well for long tern keywords then you can earn well.

Hi John,

You're really a brainy wizard. Interesting article, & I will use it as a asset.

I realized that I must learn searching more.Everything needs much experience.

I always thought it was a good idea to get indexed back into Google. I think $80 a post is excellent. With results like that I'd write 20 posts a day :-)

During this time I am still in doubt with website review, but after reading your post, so I'd like to post website reviews on my blog.

Thanks for your great post John.

Cheers,

Suroso

I think a lot of people are missing the important part of this post. John didn't research a long tail keyword to target, instead he simply used analytics to identify a traffic source that was potentially profitable. It's something we can all do, look at your analytics and see what long tails there are and where people are landing for it. We can then optimise that page, there are very few pages that we can't promote an affiliate offer of one sort or another on, just 1 simple text link can bring big rewards.

You just have to take time and do some research before writing a post. optimizing pages that rank well to the level of being number one on google searches is better than writing a few new posts every day.

Thanks for sharing this John, good stuff!

Have you done some special "ninja tricks" for these posts to get'em high on Google, or has the ranking been natural?

Main ninja secret... Existing links coming to the domain. It also helps to have appropriate title tags that match up well with large search traffic.

Very cool. I need to learn to write better titles. :)

$24.95 for any ebook on Clickbank is a good deal as long as the book is good.

But it only works for make money online area?

As in most of the ebooks with high price and hence high profit margins are in make money online area.

What about those not in this area? No affiliate products to sell?

There are affiliate products in every niche, not just making money online.

There are affiliate sales for Digital product, Health product, Leads .... you just have to elaborate a little and you will get every details.

You're wrong, there are actually tons of products in the market, you can sell anything with any blog you have, there must be some products that suit your blog. Let's get it. Try to search in Clickbank, you'll find a lot from there.

Lee

The bulk of my online income (outside of eBook sales) comes from affiliate sales on Mountain Biking by 198. There are great opportunities outside of the MMO niche. That is actually what the eBook (Ramped Reviews) covers as well.

Hi John,
Since Google has backed you in. It seems you will utilze again you talent as an internet mogul when it come to SEO. That is - using your great skills in playing with keywords.

I've experienced the same with one of my blog posts that gets a lot of StumbleUpon traffic. I added a highly targeted ebook offer to it and it converts at about $9 per sale. It's only about $100 so far, but that's not bad for a single post.

There aren't a whole lot of proplr searching on the phrase "# 1 Way To Make Money Online". Hardly anyone types it in like that.

I also ranked for other phases of that term, like ways to make money online, best way to make money online, etc.

By the way, I got the Error 403 only when i click on your link:
http://www.johnchow.com/rampedreviews

Works for me. The affiliate system Ramped Review was using may have been down when you tried it.

Problem fixed. It was a server issue on my end. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice income from blog posts. I should be more careful with my blog titles and products. I get traffic from blog post titles but have made much from blog posts.

great tips.. i will back to read this...

I love how you look at small, incremental improvements like this as significant. They are. The little number add up, and you realize this, which is surely one of the reasons you make mad benjamins ;)

Wow, I never knew that your blog post title could have so such a major effect on your rankings with google. I need to check out my blog posts now and that I can get good keywords. Thanks John!

The blog post title is probably the most important thing to get right in order to get a good ranking. If you got The #1 Way To Make Money Online, you would have learn that. :)

Title is important but not the most important.

For instance type "click here" in Google.

What site appears as number one?

There is no "click here" in the title of the page.

There is not even a single "click here" phrase in the content.

But why does it rank number one for "click here"?

Hmmm. Mystery. = )

Seems cool John, you can still make money with that post even though it flooded for so long period. I think it's important to optimize the right keyword and promote the right product, then definitely we can make some money from it.

I'm going to take your advice. :)

Regards,
Lee

Hi John, Congratulations!

Its great to hear how well that blog post is converting for you...I see how you list all of the topics that are covered in the book and that in addition to the potential free products in dollars that you listed is compelling enough to turn a reader into a buyer.....

but I was wondering if you had any comments on why you feel this offer has converted so well?

The people coming to that post via Google are using long tail keywords and as such, is much more targeted than normal keywords. These readers are in buying mode rather than browsing mode. That's why the conversion has been higher than average.
