How To Start Your Money Making Blog In 2013

No doubt you made a resolution to start a blog, or take your blog to the next level, in 2013. I am here to help. Whether you are brand new to blogging or a seasoned professional, the following resources will get you off in the right direction for 2013 and beyond.

Free Blog Installation Service

One of the most common complaint I hear from potential new bloggers is they don’t know how to install the software. Because of the technology barrier, many would be bloggers never start their blogs. If this is your situation, then I have a solution. Let me set up the blog for you for free!

To get the free WordPress installation service, all you have to do is order a web hosting plan from HostGator (they host this blog). Then forward me the login information to johnchow [at] and I’ll install WordPress for you. I’ll set it up with search engine friendly URL and install six must-have plugins to make your blog run better. Afterwards, I’ll email you back the login information for your new WordPress blog and you can start blogging!

Blogging with John Chow

Blogging with John Chow details step-by-step how I created a blog that went from zero to over $40,000 a month in only two short years, and how you can do the same. The course came about when I was thinking of updating my best selling eBook, Make Money Online with John Chow dot Com. While much of the content in that eBook is still valid, a lot has also changed. Blogging with John Chow brings everything completely up to date and adds my proven 4-step formula to successful blogging, and a 30-day action plan. Click the image below to watch the video on what Blogging with John Chow is all about.

WP Blog Videos

WP Blog Videos is made up of seven modules that will take you from how to register a domain name to RSS, SEO, email and social media marketing. For many bloggers, this will be really basic stuff and the question, “Who the hell doesn’t know how to register a domain name?” is sure to come up. The answer is, a lot of people!

Every video tutorials were made with the absolute beginner in mind. You’ll never feel like you’re listening to some rambling tech geek. Once you finish the first two modules, you should be able to get a new WordPress blog up and running.

You get access to all 100 videos at once. There’s no waiting until next week to get the next video. This way, you can skip over the stuff you already know and learn the stuff that you don’t. New videos will be added over time and you’ll be able to watch those for free with your membership. All the videos are encoded in HTML5, so you can watch them from any web browser or mobile device like the Apple iPad or iPhone.

  1. Hi John,

It’s really a nice step taken by you to help newbies. I totally appreciate it from the core of my heart.
Keep it up & keep helping bloggers.

I will install WordPress for free. No catches. I have no affiliate link for you to click on. As long has your host has Cpanel, I will load it. It takes only a few minutes with one click using Fantastico installer. Then, it is just a matter of filling in a user name and password and directory boxes and presto! Blog is up!

Then, you simply change passwords for your host and for WordPress, which also very easy to do, even for newbies.

    1. James M. says:

Be careful what you ask for Fred, or what you’re offering. You just might get flooded with requests for free installations. πŸ™‚

        1. Fredrick says:

I do appreciate what you are saying. Thank you! πŸ™‚

However, one has to first find this article of John’s and then read the comments to know about my offer. I figure that the number of people who take me up on it will be few (if any). Even if by some remote chance I ended up having to do 100, that is only 5 hours of volunteer work. I may even end up making a new friend or two in the process.

I believe in paying kindness forward. If I assist someone, then they in turn may help another in some capacity πŸ™‚

So far, nobody has knocked on my door.

          1. James M. says:

Then, I support your worthy move my friend. I too know a thing or two about installing wordpress and likewise can offer help, but I don’t necessarily have the time as besides my day job, I have 2 kids I need to tutor every night.

However, should you find your load too heavy, e.g. you get 101 requests, you may send that 101st one to me. πŸ™‚

  4. Hi John,

    Hi John,

I have bought your book[membership] blogging with John Chow and started my blog. I hope this year I could make some revenue by applying your tips.

    1. Fredrick Burns says:

      Hello Ivan,

In my humble opinion, one of the most important things you can do is write about what are passionate about, and write everyday! Consistency can equal a loyal following of readers and subscribers.

There is an old saying: Money will follow your passion! If you are passionate about something, the writing will come to you rather easily, even when you suffer from writer’s block. There will times when you can’t wait for morning to come so that you can jump out of bed to write your next article, or burn the midnight oil to make a new post.

      Best wishes to you!

  13. I Started a blog but I am struggled, what else to do?

    1. Good for you, setting up a blog!
I think the hardest thing to do is to continually come up with content (especially when maintaining your own blog and not outsourcing the content).
If content is what you’re struggling with, you could use an Editorial Calendar to plan your blog content. In looking at the URL you used for your sign-in, you like to share information about contemporary furniture. Some ideas for your blog Editorial Calendar could be — Tuesdays you do a piece about a contemporary furniture maker (someone up and coming, someone legendary, or a contemporary furniture shop that is really amazing). Thursdays you could do a photo roundup with a theme — all blue for instance, or sofas, or even chair legs. Saturdays or Sundays you could write about fabrics, or have a link round-up of the best deals of the week on contemporary furniture. By having those three main, recurring topics every week, you’ll have a lot of things to write about.
      Good luck!

      1. Thank you for your Tips. I will organize the posts so I can blog and make money in long run πŸ™‚

  22. Tim Miller says:

    Hi John,

I think the biggest barrier for many bloggers out there in building WP blogs is that most of them are not really sure whether their blogging empires will take off or not. They are lucky if their WP blogs can manage to survive in several months. But as soon when they don’t make any money, which definitely will happen, they will be forced to shut their blogs down because they just can’t pay the rent.

However, i think your Make Money program is really interesting to join for bloggers out there. I used to read one of your articles about step by step of creating email list. The steps are really straightforward and clear. So i believe your program will be that great too.

  23. Jacob Tyree says:

    Hey John, and everyone else!
Loving the information here! I’ve just started out with Internet Marketing few months ago, and just trying to learn as much as I can – this blog has a lot of great info!

I actually bought your program “Blogging with John Chow” and I was really pleased, I actually wasn’t expecting so much content! – top stuff! I was actually so pleased that I spent some time writing a review about it. Check it out

Thank you for getting me started!

    1. Fredrick says:

That was really good early review. I have bookmarked your blog to read your follow ups.

Reading your post also gave me an idea for one of my future articles, and that is why there is such a wide gap in sales taxes in different jurisdictions. In the UK it is 20%, in British Columbia it is 12%, Alberta 5%, and the states of Oregon and New Hampshire it is zero sales tax.

Then there is the question of why there is even a sales tax at all? Oh, perhaps there could be one for luxury items, but for some of the necessities of life, like winter boots, there should be no tax.

We are taxed on our income, then we are further taxed on our disposable income, and some cases we are even taxed on the tax! πŸ™

      1. Jacob Tyree says:

        Thank you for your feedback.
Yes tax is a big issue, I’m from the UK, we are taxed a lot!
We even pay tax online! But if you just choose US as your country, and give them a random US address then you won’t pay a penny!

  24. Michael Sato says:

This a great way to start the year. I have already bought the training program with john and there’s a lot to learn and do. Definitely a must try for newbies like me.
