How To Use A Good Blog Design To Get Links

If you know anything about SEO, then you understand that backlinks are important for your site’s google ranking and pagerank. Getting backlinks can be tough and paying for them is considered “Black Hat” in google’s eyes. Like always, I have figured out a solution. I will show you how you can get FREE Backlinks for your blog. You might be wondering what you need? All you really need is a good blog design, and it needs to be powered by WordPress (aren’t all blogs are).

My friend Syed Balkhi (founder of WPBeginner) has launched a new gallery to showcase good looking WordPress powered sites. The best part about the launch is that he is giving DO-Follow links to all sites that are accepted.

WPBeginner domain is a PR 6 and ranks very high for a lot of keywords. Also WPBeginner has been mentioned in top sites like Wired Magazine, Mashable, and many other top level sites, so it is a very credible source. This strength of the main domain will certainly flow to the subdomain and then to your site. Getting listed in the early phase increase your chances to get approved and have higher ranking as well. Also it is great for exposure if you get more votes because WPBeginner receives millions of pageviews every month, and they put top voted sites in the sidebar.

Syed told me that they will be embedding the top rated sites widget through out their WPBeginner Network which is expanding rapidly. So that is more than one backlink for you. I already got my backlink, and I am also in the sidebar right now. While you are submitting your sites, don’t forget to support my blog by giving me 5 stars and like it as well.

For having a Thesis blog, I entered it into their custom blog directory and received a quality backlink from their site

    1. Hey John,

Having a Thesis is not a condition fro what I understand. I submitted my blog anyway.

I wonder how long it takes to have it approved. If I’m approved I may give you the 5 stars if you promise to give me at least 3.

Just kidding but it would help if you rated my site too.

      1. boy syed certainly knows how to get business.

This is winning situation for both, I must say.

      2. So has your blog been approved yet? Wondering how long is the approval process too…

        1. I still wonder how long it takes. No response so far. I hope that they’ll give some response one way or another. They could be pretty picky I think.

      3. I could give you stars if you give me stars (if I get approved). I don’t know how picky they are but I hope I get approved. anyways, I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see, but I’ll get back if I get approved. 😛

Thanks for this John. Every opportunity to get quality backlinks is highly appreciated.

      1. yeah quite agree with you.

If you want to get backlinks and also good exposure than you should try your hand in guest posting.

        1. @ZK, spot-on ZK. I notice a rapid increase in my rankings after guest posting on a number of blogs. Anyway, do you have any good blogs to recommend where I can do some guest posting too?

          1. d3so says:

You can guest post on my blog. I submit it to social bookmarking sites and have it retweeted by others.

    3. d3so says:

Awesome more free links. Thanks for mentioning this.

    4. Bob says:

Is backlink still relevant in SEO these days?

      1. Backlinks are VERRY relevant to SEO these days. However, you should try to get high-authority backlinks rather than just a lot of low-authority. Try to do some quest blogging or article writing, that will work like a charm!

    5. There are a lot of CSS galleries you can submit your blog to, to get a backlink.

  2. I’m about to launch a new site that this will be very useful for. Thanks for posting a lot of these tips for us noobs 🙂

    1. would love to know how your new website will be useful.

Would you like to share with us.

    2. I am as eager as ZK to know what your new website is about! Do let us know in future. You can be sure that John’s blog will benefit you in one way or another.

      1. What it will be about? Just go read it.

  3. Rodney says:

Thanks for the heads up on the contest John. I’ve just followed you on Twitter and saw the link to this post. I’ve signed up for the contest. My blog was re-designed and I’ve started blogging from scratch so hopefully they still accept me.

    1. John which one is your biggest traffic provider at the moment.

      Twitter
      Google
      Email List or

      1. @ZK, let me make an intelligent guess. Google is my answer. Lock that in!

        1. and I think john’s email list and social media send him tonnes of traffic.

          1. John has mentioned it before. His biggest traffic source is his email list and it is so for most bloggers and internet marketers.

If it has changed, which I doubt, I hope John will correct me.

          2. d3so says:

I’m working to get my email list to become a viable source of traffic.

          3. Yeh, I think I read an article at ProBlogger once where he showed detailed statistics on where his traffic came from and A LOT of the traffic came from email lists. So I think that is the case for Mr. Chow as well since this is such a famous blog. However I also think that search engines are the 1# provider of new visitors.

  4. Clay Burt says:

Nice link and I think that is a great idea for dynamically building links and traffic to both the site and the source site… clever SEO.

    1. yes I do accept that this is a nice move, not only that but big guns like john are also spreading this message.

      1. @ZK, probably a JV between the two? Anyway, do we need to pay to get listed?

        1. cant say about the joint venture.

i do not think that john have such kind of business model.

  5. Quitosana says:

Thanks for sharing this. I am finalizing a new design for my main blog and will apply to that site for sure. I hope I get some backlinks.

    1. best of luck for your new design.

Would love to give it a try.

Please let us know when this will complete.

      1. I’m sure he will let us know.

  6. Salman Ahsan says:

    Good stuff, I’m in 🙂

    1. @Salman, you better jump in fast before everyone else. Cos the approval process might even take longer and the standard will only get better!

  7. Kirk Taylor says:

enjoyed this post. I will put it on my list of to check outs!

    1. @Kirk, John never fail to give us pleasant surprises. I like that!

  8. Hotdogman says:

What would we do without you, John? Do these site owners approach you to tout their sites or do you go after them and cut a deal? I’d be interested to hear about the dynamics of how you get these “scoops.”

That might make a good post for your fans…hint hint

    1. They simply approach John to get more exposure.

In fact all big guns got these kind of request. You can call it a review or ad or promotion.

But yes John also share cool thing with us.

      1. @ZK, I personally think that is a real good deal, provided that the domain PageRank of 6 is a real one instead of a redirect of some other domains.

        1. The sub domain is a PR 0, that’s where you’re getting links from, not from the main site.

  9. Roger says:

Anytime we can get quality backlinks without a lot of effort is fine by me. Thanks for keeping us informed!

    1. yes we all love to have backlinks if this is quality and relevant.

      1. Any backlink from a reputable site is good. Relevan is of course better but no link is completely useless even if the topic is not spot on.

    2. @Roger, that’s effortless Roger. Simply awesome. The price of a PR6 domain link. Priceless!

      1. It’s not a link from a PR 6 domain dude, the gallery doesn’t even have a page rank.

    3. Ye, and the good thing is that you will get 2 links from the website as far as I can see. I don’t know if google counts both of them since they are on the same page but I can only hope so!
Still need to get accepted first though. 😛

      //Alexander.

  10. I’m fairly new to this stuff so I’ll take all the links I can get from ranked sites. I’m not the quickest draw in the west but I know links from non-ranked or low ranking sites aren’t pushing my sites up the Google charts. This is great material, thanks.

    1. try to get the backlinks from the relevant and quality websites.

If the site is good and relevant than you should get the backlink from that as well.

    2. Almost all links are good for your website and will help, even though it might not be noticable in some cases, such as from forum signatures. A link from a site like this will be good for you since it’s not a spam-fest of links competing for SEO juice on the same page as your links. If you really want to rank higher for specific keywords then I would advice writing articles and submit them to directories such as Ezinearticles. Good luck! =)

      //Alexander.

        1. seems to me that this one is going to be very hit.

          Looking forward for the output.

        2. Yep, I believe so too. Just from the comments alone, I can sense the excitement between the lines.

          1. Can anyone who gets accepted proclaim it here so that we can check it out and vote for them?

  13. ikki says:

    interesting, thanks for share

    1. @ikki, I think he is always willing to share with us, right John?

    1. @ikki, have you submitted your blog bro?

      1. Ikki is just spamming again. It would be a miracle if he read anyone’s comment and replied to it. Just read his comments and it will be obvious to you that he’s not here to interact with anybody, not even with John.

I’ve ben trying to draw him out in vain.

  14. PPC Ian says:

Thanks for sharing, John! I’ll be sure to submit my site tonight! Always happy to get another link. 🙂

    1. @Ian, has your blog been approved? Really wondering about the approval guidelines…how strict are they…Care to share about it here?

      1. PPC Ian says:

I have not been approved yet but will report back here if I am!

        1. PPC Ian says:

Actually, I just checked and my site did get approved! 🙂 If you’re able to vote for me, would really appreciate it! John, thanks again – what a great Friday treat, always exciting to get a link (and featured on a really great site).

          1. d3so says:

I thought I’d be able to sign up from my iPhone. I guess I’ll have to do it later.
I’m happy to see that you’re one of the top rated blogs on the site.

      2. Yea, have a good design and don’t peddle crap and you’re in.

  15. Allen Walker says:

Thanks for sharing that John. 🙂

But unfortunately, I don’t have a completely original blog design. Well, I’ll use it in the future when I get time to design one…

    1. @Allen, shucks… I didn’t know that the design needs to be original but I guess it won’t be too expensive to hire an outsourcer to design one for you.

    2. The design does not need to be unique. However if you have a design that is verry common I do not think you will get accepted. Make it unique with some custom editing and plugins (if you have wordpress). I have changed my design to differ from the original one, but it’s still not 100% unique.

  16. Karen Marrow says:

    Hi John,

    Thanks for sharing this information!!!

    Karen

  17. PPC Ian says:

Ok, I’ve officially submitted my blog! I hope I get selected. 🙂

  18. Neon SRT4 says:

That’s Excellent Post. I will submit my blog to them. Hope i will get accepted.

  19. John, when talking about getting backlinks through a blog design, I did something different – I modified a famous Copyblogger theme by adding a third column and I put a link to my blog http://sharingmatters.com in the footer. The problem I got is that my PR dropped to 0 as over 1000+ blogs installed the theme. It returned to 1 after redirecting the other domain to the blog.

Google doesn’t like it? Bad neighbourhood links?

    1. I don’t really know if that’s the case. Having links from the footer of a theme is not a negative thing. A guy here in sweden creates themes for wordpress and he has about 4,4 million backlinks now. His site was is a PR9.

Maybe you did something else that Google didn’t like, such as blackhat link building or reciprocal link exhange? anyways, you should not be concerned untill your PR drops from a strong 4 or something to 0, because then you have really screwed up!. 😛

Hi, may I submit my blog. It’s used Datalife Engine Platform?

  21. I am having a thesis blog but the customization was done by another guy. Can I enter my blog design into this gallery?

    1. Of course you can enter, it’s your blog, right?

  22. fas says:

Other than the link, isint it good to be in the wpbegginer showcase!

  23. Ivin says:

I am so excited what is happening in the blog-sphere right now. There are so many blog promotion sites, tools and programs coming out. – and they are legitimate back-link builders. I love it!

Now more than ever it is easier to grow your blog if you are willing to share, give interact and get connected.

    1. yes now we have many tools, websites, real time stats providers, keyword tool and many many more.

This one is going to be the best for blog owner.

  24. Ari says:

Thanks, I will submit my blog now, hope they accept me. I vote you 5 stars 🙂

  28. Is there a chance that the same would work with Drupal?

    1. Abhik says:

You can submit it.. But may not be accepted.

  29. This is AWESOME! I will submit my site and vote top score on your site for sure! I hope that I get approved since my site is only a month onld and I’m still working on getting it more visually attractive, though I always value good SE optimization before attraction. Well, thanks anyways!

  30. qasd says:

    very good, very good…

  31. Abhik says:

    I already submitted mine..
Hoping to get it accepted soon 🙂

    1. Abhik says:

It’s been 7 days and my blog isn’t approved yet!!

  32. I gave a vote. I think you are advantaged of having a premium theme like Thesis, who is also praised by a lot of well known Bloggers (Yaro Starak, etc). If you want a theme you should get a premium theme. I personally have a theme that is very tiny, I mean squeezed and it confuses readers.

  33. I am new to word press and have been looking for information like this I will go to WP Beginners and read the info Thanks a mill.

  34. This Theme is for affiliates and blogging. For Business purpose, we should easy, the themes which is convenient to attract more people.
