Get to know them a bit, make a connection, than they will be more likely to respond to your meme request. Once your at the center and have people participating you have a chance for your meme to be viral. If everyone tags 5 people, and they tag 5 and they tag 5... you basically have exponential possibilities. It helps get a little exposure as long as it doesn't overwhelm the content. The best memes, I think, are the group writing project kind, where there's a genuine collaborative effort to connect with others who are writing about similar topics. Those are fun, and they remind me of the kinds of writing experiments I did in grad school for creative writing. They can be a little hippy-dippy, of course, but I've met some neat folks while surfing for a group writing project to jump-start my own writing when the content well's running a little dry.
