Hunting Pandas At The Shanghai Wild Animal Park

written by John Chow on May 31st, 2008

It seems that Shanghai is so big that one zoo isn’t enough. The Shanghai Wild Animal Park doesn’t have as much animal as the Shanghai Zoo but it’s almost as big. Unlike the Shanghai Zoo, the Shanghai Wild Animal Park doesn’t keep all the animals in cages. Most run free in fenced off park areas. This gives the animals a lot more space to roam around and be like normal wild animals.

You travel through the park in tour buses and observe the animals as they do what animals do, which most of the time, is nothing. Other sections of the park are viewed on foot or tram cars. That’s where they keep the non-dangerous animals. There’s also an animal show and a amusement park with rides and a big ferris wheel.

You can see the bloodlust on his face as soon as pandas are mentioned.

This is a complement. I am a huge fan of your videos. After watching to 20-25 videos, I finally figured it out — your voice sounds like Ray Romano. It is the pitch and cadence.

John,

Nothing really special there, except the pandas themselves - Good coverage, though :)

If anything happens to any Pandas in China you can bet you’ll see John’s face plastered all over the news. Mobs of people will take to the streets with torches and pitch forks hunting for John Chow.

Oh that’s cool you get to see Ligers. They are HUGE! But then again why would humans breed lions with tigers anyway? lol

Oh John hope you got me a panda! You can mail it via fedex to my place!

Interesting. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a Liger!

And I’d ridden a horse like that. I almost fell off though.

Great video John

But I am not quite sure that throwing a plastic drink bottle into an animal enclosure is a good idea.

Monkeys have tails great apes don’t. Wasn’t always into making money online-started out in anthropology. Still, I was pretty surprised to see that chimp open that drink and take a swig!

Also surprised you didn’t expect that ostrich to take a peck at you-or maybe you did…

I saw the documentary on the Ligers (nova or NG or something) and they are real. They are also huge, they could easy fit an adult head inside their mouth without an issue. Their paws are also larger than the average man’s head (if there is an average head size)

I would _hate_ for it to get angry and attack something….

Maybe these Ligers can easily fit a mans head in their mouths, but “without an issue”?

I would certainly have a issue if it was my head!

If you’re ever in San Diego I suggest skipping the San Diego Zoo and going to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. It’ much larger and more entertaining in my opinion.
