I guess this is linkbait week! Hot on the heals of 45n5 Top 100 Make Money Online bloggers, North x East has released a list of the 50 most influential bloggers. I came in at number 48 but in this case, it’s a blessing because the story hit the Digg front page.
Most Diggers have the attention span of a chicken with its head cut off so chances are they will views the top of the page and then scroll all the way to the bottom to see the who is number one. While I’m ranked 48, I show up near the top because the list counts down from 50. As a result, I received quite a bit of traffic from the article.
Whenever someone comes out with a list like this, it will always be met with, “You forgot [insert name]!” However, that doesn’t really matter. Lists like these are fantastic linkbait. I’m sure many of the 50 influential bloggers will be writing about it. The Internet’s Biggest Google Whores was my best linkbait article. It was the article that pretty much put John Chow dot Com on the map. The article still gets linked from other blogs to this very day.
The only problem with a list like this is it only works once. Well, you can probably do it again in a few months, after everyone has forgotten about it. Or you could try to come up with a more unique list. How about the Top 50 Female Bloggers? That has Digg front page all over it! ![]()

I don’t see why some others are in there, I checked out almost all the blog and some of them are extremely ugly and horrible, with low traffic

Eli posts some good stuff though
Got a new artile up that im sure most of you have read.. its like 12 pages.. silly bastard.
I agree with you there can be changed with some other better blogs. There are new blogs that I haven’t hear about it. Maybe some kind of “free advertising” to their friends?
Your name is in excellent company John and you got a great placement on the list near the top of the list. I’m not surprised you got some extra traffic. It might be linkbait but it is an excellent achievement and you can be proud of that.
The list has given me a great idea for my niche though
Congratz John, you really deserve you high position in the blog world. I do as much as I can to follow your tips but my own visitors doesn’t seems to raise very much. Am I writing to boring posts?

Well done John. It was a great list, and a lot of time and effort must have been put into it.

CONGTATS!
I can’t believe Kevin Rose is #2. I remember him from back in the Screen Savers days.
Is Kevin Rose a blogger? I thought he just ran Digg.
He is not.
I don’t know why Kevin is on that list, but he’s influential nonetheless.

Amber MacArthur should have made the list.
Clearly it was made for links and specifically digg if kevin is on the list. I bet it was made to hit the frontpage.
Well, if you want linkbait.. all you need to do is make
‘Top 10 list of Kevin Roses’
and make every entry him..
and… well.. it will be on digg.
Kevin Rose fetish they have over there at digg.
What about the Top 50 commentators on John Chow?
I’m pretty sure not including me on the list was just an oversite and the list will be updated soon
50 female bloggers? Highly interesting especially for all those ¨nerds¨ that haven’t seen a woman in real life for ages

I was going to do a top 10 ugly bloggers but chicks have more more appeal I suppose? Maybe a top 10 list of female bloggers under the age of 25 in bikinis, or is that a bit to specific?
It would probably get a lot of traffic. Maybe it should be an ebook?
I didn’t think you could laminate an e-book?
Congrats!
I think you got robbed-even more that the iPod give away.

Hi John,
Just finished reading Make Money Online with John Chow dot Com. Andy Latter gave me a copy. It’s a great read and I got lots of great ideas from it. Assigning dates to your goals is probably one of the best suggestions.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Cheers,

Awesome! Congrats John!

How about the top 50 midget transvestite bloggers? That’ll be the long and short of it.
Congrats!
John,
You have obviously worked very hard in this whole blogosphere thing in order to reach the top of the A-list bloggers. I do agree with you that these lists are a bit “linkbait” but still it is always good to get a pat on the back right? I think so. While I do not necessarily agree with all those on the list they have worked hard at their craft and should be acknowledged to some extent. It would be nice if you had a bit more focus on your blog but this is your blog so who am I to judge.
Anyways congrats on making the list. Just wait for the next one to come out.
Its amazing seeing your hard work and its reward. You deserve to be on it for sure.
Congrats.

Congrats on making this list - you deserve it!
Many people don’t like attention or don’t feel they should ask for it - but they’re missing out - John Chow is a master!
All of blogger around the world recognize ‘John Chow’ because of his blog…
You are my idol……
I tried myself some interesting linkbait technique (upside down too) but apparently some influential blogger hasn’t published it.

Everytime I hear the word “linkbait” I think of a fish typing at a computer. Lol!
Those guys have really benefited the 40 - 50 rankers by listing it in a reverse countdown format. I guess the ones receiving most clicks must have been 1 - 5 and 45- 50. Things would have been different had the listing been in numerical order.
Congrats John…
Well, you deserve it…Congrats from the dominican republic
Haha! Congrats
