I Love Darren Rowse, Plus A Bunch Of Other Bloggers

written by John Chow on February 2nd, 2007

loveme.gifFor the past little while, I’ve been targeting Problogger.net with an “I Love Darren Rowse” Google ad. I also sent a few other “I love you” ads to other bloggers. You can see what those ads looks like plus how it all started here.

After running the Google ad on Problogger for two months or so, Darren finally got the message and replied with the Google ad you see on the right. Feel free to click it because it’s not an AdSense ad, it’s just an image of the Google ad Darren is running on this blog. Yes, it’s true. This is how professional bloggers talk to each other. We don’t use IM! We send the message with Google ads! :D

Now I need to come up with a really good Google Ad reply to send back to Problogger. Any ideas?

How about:

“Learn How to Become a dot com Mogul like Darren Rowse at John Chow dot Com”

Will that fit? :D

I like that, but it’s a touch wordy. Still good, I think.

Yeah, you definatey need something that compliments him, yet at the same time increases the interest level.

I know you probably can’t disclose this, but I imagine the CTR on these type of ads is pretty high (as long as they’re seen). Anytime I see one of those type of ads I click it. :D

How about:

“I hate Darren Rowse”

Well that is what love to the extreme could become :) don’t be offended I just trying to be funny :) It could be a good catch though depends on how you address it your blog.

Hey, John I didn’t know you are advertising on Darren Rowse’s blog to get traffic. Did you substract it as a cost when you release your monthly financial report on this blog? I am just curious.

‘Yes Darren, I love you, but please read my blog to get the real reason’? That should at least respond to his question ánd get some visitors back ;)

I run a blog in Brazil, in portuguese, and there’s been a serious discussion about to be or not to be a problogger going around here. My blog’s doing goog, in part thanks to yours and Darren Rowse’s tips. I take part in a yahoo group about the Brazillian blogosphere and just introduced your post to the group. I think is a nice way to link your buddys. I’ve seen your “add” at Darren’s blog so many times and kept thinking “this is clever”.
Keep up the good work and good luck with your cars. :-)

Yeap, it’s becoming a very interesting advertising habit. If you look at this post you’ll see that I tried, a week before John TP post, to formalize this type of publicity. By transmitting a positive message, the ad is just becoming extremely powerful and almost viral. Very interesting.
