Ideas on Tap started off as a light business networking event to bring Vancouver’s tech community together. The past few events were held at the Yaletown Brewing Company. Since then, the gathering has gotten so big that it now requires the Commodore Ballroom to accommodate it.
“We listened to everybody’s feedback and we concluded that the previous venue was not big enough to host the 300 plus attendees. People want to be able to walk around and easily meet and chat with people. The Commodore Ballroom is 9000 square feet which should allow for 600-700 people to interact comfortably.” – Chris Breikss.
With nearly 800 tickets sold, Ideas on Tap has become the biggest social-media event in Vancouver. The place was alive with energy and the Commodore Ballroom prove to be a great venue to hold it in. Ideas on Tap was also the first major networking event for me to test out the low light performance and built in video light on my Canon Vixia HF S100 HD Camcorder. That sucker is bright! I had a great time blinding people with it.

@johnchow i hope you find your girls gone wild at @ideasontap event at commodore in vancouver

#ideasontap talks are starting. Just met @JohnChow with his camcorder trying to get footage of 2 girls making out. Good luck with that 😉

It’s hard enough trying to find 2 girls at Ideas on Tap, never mind 2 girls making out!

@JohnChow yeah, this industry is sadly a sausage-fest. It was nice to meet you in person at least, even if there weren’t girls making out.
Talking to the legendary @johnchow. If you know who he is, you probably have an opinion on him.

listening to @johnchow grouse about two men offering to make out on his camera for him to film at ideasontap event at commodore in vancouver

@johnchow you could make some money with that…. ::nudge nudge wink wink:: :-p

@JohnChow Just saw you at Memphis. Was too shy to come by and say – I’m your biggest fan! =) Like vid w/your daughter at park.
In addition to the above Twittercast, you can read a live blog of Ideas on Tap over at Miss 604. I’m sure other Vancouver bloggers will be posting their thoughts in the next day or two. In the mean time, check out this HD video from the event. Sorry, no girls (or guys) making out.
Looks like a cool event. Wish I could have been there.
Were you playing around with your wide angle lens as well?

looked like a cool event…wonder why Toronto or other larger cities don’t have these (unless I”m out of the local loop)
[email protected]’s last blog post: Another Down Day
I think you’re out of the loop. Toronto has just as many, if not more, local tech events than Vancouver.
hmm..never knew that…where do you find out about these events? are they only for the techie community??
Meetup.com is a great place to start.
Hope to see an interesting video about the event.

You’re always talking about events I’ve never heard about, but sound great. I guess it really does pay to live in Canada!
Is it me or are your videos starting to lag a lot now since it’s in HD. I know I’m not the only one with an old and slow comp 🙂
-Mike
Well, HD Videos are almost 3X the size as normal video so ya, if you’re not on a high speed connection, it’ll be slower. There is a button to turn the HD off.
I guess it’s time to upgrade your computer! Don’t tell me you’re using one from 2000?
