written by John Chow on October 4, 2007

Make Money!

We’re in Seattle today for the start of the World Cyber Games. Despite what it sounds like, the world cyber games is not a cyber sex competition. The event is the largest computer and video game festival in the world. Seattle has been choosen the host city for the world final.

Gamers from all over the world are flying in to QWest Field in downtown Seattle for four days of intense gaming to decide who is the best of the best. More than 1.5 million competitors around the world battled for a spot on their respective national teams. The pool has been narrowed to the elite 700 gamers representing a record 74 countries. These gamers will compete for gold medals, national glory, a share of $500,000 in cash and prizes, and the title of the “world’s best” in 12 different gaming titles.

would love to be there to watch them play

This looks like a pretty cool event does any else cover it??

Counter Strike Forever!!!

The next big game next year will be StarCraft 2, so if any of you are looking to get back into amateur or professional gaming look out for it. Also Starfeeder.com will be running prize StarCraft 2 tournaments too, we're not just a blog ;)

I'm a Warcraft III geek myself, I've been watching the whole thing on streams since it started yesterday. GOGOGO 4k^Grubby and 4k^ToD :D

Go Team Canada? What is going on here? An Olympiad? How many nations and how many events?

I have heard something about this... seems to be quite interesting :)

 that`s a great event. i wish i could be there too. i plan to go to the games convention in leipzig germany next year. i just love computer games.

Yea.. the Koreans rules in Starcraft .. no I am not Korean.

It's pretty exciting.

Sounds like fun! And I bet there will be upcoming games to be previewed too! Awesome!

you get to have all the fun dont ya.

Cyber? Who would have looked at it like that! Some people just have dirty minds!

I would get destroyed at that competition because it's all FPS games. I'm too much of an RPG player.

Do you guys know of any similar events in Europe? I know a pretty popular one in Germany...any others?

Uh, more fun! This is nice! U`re a gamer huh?

Great !! never heard of such a thing before.
It's coool John how you get to know these new things that keep happening around the world. but I am sure it's would be a great experience to see the gamer's in full form.

Are too going John ?????

Hope you have fun.

Carl you are in nostalgia

Big time. It's kinda sad that it was probably the most exciting point of my life so far. I'm trying change that right now.

lol.

Oh man this brings back memories. I used to be a pro CS player back in the day. I was so close to going to korea to compete in the world cyber games. Got second in the USA qualifier (got beat out by team 3d)

good times though.

Live video, Damn it I can't believe I missed the StarCraft games and I blog about StarCraft lol!

Missed the Counter-Strike matches as well, oh well it goes on till the weekend.

I told my parents that playing all of those video games when I was a kid wasn't a waste of time! Too bad they didn't believe me.

Sounds like Fun ....hey have similar events in Tokyo every year, not sure if they`re associated with this though.

I have always feared games, i find them extremely addictive and hence have always kept distance, but this 4 days champ. sounds like a big fun.

Sometimes i hate that I don't live in the US. :P

That Should be fun! :) It's been a long time since I've played a game on my computer... but hey they are still fun for some of us. Once you grow older and you spend a lot of time working you will forget about playing on...

DUDE COOL!

WCG is the highest event in eSports, top Korean StarCraft gamers earn hundreds of thousands of USD. Koreans have dominated StarCraft at the WCG ever since it started, now US and European gamers are trying to take away that crown once again.

I was actually about to blog about this, I'll check back, take some pics!!!

Go Isle of Man UK!

I'm curious as to what game you'll be playing myself, John! Is this for all sorts of games?

I don't think Halo3 is part of WCG already.

Will they be playing Halo 3?

Can't be otherwise I'd be there  ! Seriously though it's got to be the best multi-player game to date.

Lol, I'm not alone at being baffled, am I? ;)
World's largest?! Oh well, guess its about time I get out of my cave.

Sounds like fun. What game(s) are you joining in?

Sounds like fun!

I wish I had known about this, I would have gone out there myself. I've never been that great at video games, but I imagine this is like the video game olympics.

I really love playing video games too ;) I think this make our live more colourful :)

How did they let the root of all evil into the U.S.? :p

He paid them lots of money.

Cool, I've never even heard of this competition before. Go team US?

do you live in a cave!? @___@

i dont and i never heard of this either.
