In The February Issue of Entrepreneur Magazine

written by John Chow on January 21, 2008

How to make $593 in less than one hour

I am featured in the February issue of Entrepreneur magazine. You should be able to find it at your local newsstands now. My article is on page 52. Thanks goes out to Eten Blog and Image Gag for providing me with scans of the article.

Being featured by Entrepreneur is indeed an honor and represents my first ever international tier 1 magazine coverage. The value this will add to my brand is immeasurable. Mike Hogan did a great job on the article and summed up what I’m all about perfectly.

His blog remains a somewhat banal combination of his money count and what he had for lunch–the blogging equivalent of Seinfeld, the show “about nothing.”

The article reveals more information than I really wanted to give. However, it was required in order to get the interview. If you want to know how to get a major magazine or newspaper to tell your story, then check out my post on How To Get Old World Media Coverage.

Head down to your local newsstand and pick up an issue or read it online.

Congrats John! I am going to the bookstore right now!

Kabatology January 22, 2008 at 2:33 pm

Grande John, more grease to your elbows

HustleStrategy January 21, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Yeah, this kind of recognition is kinda a big deal. Congrats.

Nicholas James January 21, 2008 at 10:09 pm

Its not “kinda a big deal” its a big deal. How many bloggers do you know featured in entrepreneur magazine

Alan Johnson January 22, 2008 at 2:23 pm

I agree, it is something which basically shows everyone that John’s work is appreciated. Reaching this status wasn’t easy for him, but in the end, all of his efforts paid off.

Hey John, love the picture! I’ll have to go pick up a copy of the magazine at our local B&N when I get the chance. Congratulations.

SEO Optimization January 21, 2008 at 8:23 am

True that, the picture is great. It gives me the impression of something like “This is my own street” and “This is where i started from”

HustleStrategy January 21, 2008 at 11:09 am

The whole work from home attitude. Great pic and good article.

Michael Kwan January 21, 2008 at 12:58 pm

Really? I’m not a fan of the picture, because it just comes off looking so odd. Who, in their right mind, would be wheeling around in a driveway, sitting in their office chair? It just looks too artificial, too contrived.

Affiliate Confession January 21, 2008 at 2:03 pm

The pic is kind artsy, sort of like the food that he blogs about. It definitely will get people’s attention rather that just seeing some guy sitting behind a desk.

Rui Augusto January 21, 2008 at 7:21 am

Congratulations, and the picture is great.

whydowork January 21, 2008 at 7:27 am

congrats! :)

Affiliate Confession January 21, 2008 at 7:28 am

So, you are making around $1 mil annually. Not bad.

Will January 21, 2008 at 9:49 am

i seriously thought he was making more…

Affiliate Confession January 21, 2008 at 2:00 pm

I’d be happy with the $1 million though. Heck, I’d be happy with what he makes here at the blog.

Nicholas James January 21, 2008 at 10:13 pm

Remember TTZ Media is in its early stages therefore, when it starts to get an increase in publishers…he will see a nice rise.

Considering he runs a handful of sites its nice :)

Affiliate Confession January 22, 2008 at 6:57 am

TTZ Media should do well, I’m starting to see it on more and more blogs.

Online Health January 21, 2008 at 7:29 am

great job,congratulations.

Simon Lau January 21, 2008 at 7:44 am

Impressive John. I envy your success!

KiwiPulse January 21, 2008 at 7:44 am

Congratz John! So if you blog for dollars, I blog for penny then

dcr January 21, 2008 at 9:29 am

Pennies? Heck, I almost made a quarter yesterday!

But, we’re not supposed to talk about our failures, right? Just successes?

Okay, then, I made lots of pennies yesterday!

GradeMoney.com January 21, 2008 at 7:57 am

Money Never Sleeps January 21, 2008 at 8:05 am

John…you are seriously BIG-TIME NOW! Keep pushing yourself…keep up the incredible pace!

Alan Johnson January 22, 2008 at 2:25 pm

He will most likely not stop here and, personally, I see him achieving some more than worthwhile results with TTZMedia as well.

Kris Karkoski January 21, 2008 at 8:05 am

Was bit surprised when I was flipping through and there you were. Congrats!

Ray January 21, 2008 at 8:08 am

You can also read it on the entrepreneur.com site. I found the article by searching your name on the site. It just doesn’t have the great picture.

Scam January 21, 2008 at 8:08 am

I would never have guessed you were that old – maybe your next blog should be about keeping in shape!!

Fat Kid Unleashed January 21, 2008 at 8:30 am

Amazing article. Mike did a very good job. I especially like the “His blog is the equivalent of Seinfeld. Its about nothing.”.

Shaun Carter January 21, 2008 at 8:34 am

Congratulations John! Any chance you’ll be giving away any signed copies? I’m going to head out and buy a copy today.

Affiliate Confession January 21, 2008 at 10:28 am

I was thinking the same thing. It would be nice to get a signed copy from John wouldn’t it. How about a contest for a few copies?

Simon Lau January 21, 2008 at 2:13 pm

Great idea!

sirjorge January 21, 2008 at 8:38 am

congrats on the article.

Zac Johnson January 21, 2008 at 9:11 am

Awesome article. Congrats!

Debby January 21, 2008 at 9:16 am

John,
You mentioned in your post “The article reveals more information than I really wanted to give.”

I didn’t read anything in the article that you haven’t already told us except that you use over 100 ad networks. Is this what you are referring to?

Keep up the good work. You have inspired a lot of people to pursue their passion and make a living online.

~Debby

Poker Sharks January 21, 2008 at 1:25 pm

“Chow’s revenue streams are closing in on $1 million annually”

John has never said how much the TTZ makes, now we know its around $700,000 if the blog makes $300,000.

I too thought the TTZ was a bigger income source but a cool mill is nice by anyones standards. Keep that up for a few years and you’re sorted.

Nicholas James January 21, 2008 at 10:18 pm

He revealed that he spends 5-10% on hosting. He got a server for $3,000/month therefore TTZ Media was making at least $60,000/month.

Nicholas James January 21, 2008 at 10:19 pm

Note: I got this information from an earlier blog post.

Alan Johnson January 22, 2008 at 2:27 pm

Well this is only the beginning, TTZMedia has the potential bringing in a lot more in terms of profits and his income level for 2008 will most likely be far more impressive.

Alan Johnson

Christian January 21, 2008 at 9:21 am

Congratulations John, you deserve it.
But I’m wondering which information in the Article, you were replying to as being “to much”. I was looking for the bone in the article, but found most of the article, to be repeats of old stuff :-)

dcr January 21, 2008 at 9:24 am

“The article reveals more information than I really wanted to give.”

Now, there‘s a hook!

Will January 21, 2008 at 9:25 am

wow that’s so cool. nice read, but what was the info you didn’t want to share? I didn’t see anything too personal except your revenue.

jason January 21, 2008 at 9:40 am

He doesn’t make 1 mil annually.. John inflates his numbers immensly to get you to think he is more successful than he really is to get you to buy his stuff/click his ads to make him more money. HES USING ALL OF YOU.

dcr January 21, 2008 at 12:06 pm

Using your real name gives you credibility. Having an alias gives you a little less. Having no name at all, well…

ImageGag January 21, 2008 at 9:44 am

Thanks for the mention John. Congrats again.

James McDonald January 21, 2008 at 10:00 am

Holy crap, John is 42?????

Affiliate Confession January 21, 2008 at 10:26 am

Like there is something wrong with being 42?

Ron@TheWisdomJournal January 21, 2008 at 12:19 pm

Hey! We’re the same age?
He looks a lot younger than me!

Lincoln January 21, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Nah I just figured he was younger, like early 30s for some reason. Now I find out he’s an old fogie.

Careerbright January 21, 2008 at 11:37 am

It was a great article that I read last week and am surprise that you did not know that you were featured in this article! Don’t they inform those they would be highlighting at publishing? It seems not .. but the tips were great and I have that article open at my desk since last 4 days. Had not visited your site before but am liking it a lot now !
Thanks for all your tips there is so much to learn from so many of you. Thanks for sharing!

Hosting Empire January 21, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Congratulations John! That was a great opportunity for you and your blog!

Steve

Dustin January 21, 2008 at 12:49 pm

Nice job… but who would’ve thought you were 42

I expect to see some good traffic here so not to be the advertising and marketing expert, I think John’s 125×125 banners is a prime spot to advertise at right now :)

betshopboy January 21, 2008 at 5:45 pm

With or without being featured in this article, advertising on this blog has always been prime online real estate. We are talking about 15k RSS subscribers to start with.

Alan Johnson January 22, 2008 at 2:30 pm

Exactly, while the fact that he has been featured will be great as far as branding is concerned, I doubt that we will see ad prices skyrocket as a result.

Affiliate Confession January 22, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Hey Alan Johnson, I thought I’d only last a few minutes at the top there until you got in about 10 more comments. Is that all you do all day?

dcr January 22, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Meanwhile, at the other end, I’m trying to hold my position at the bottom.

Mark - Daily Deals Blog January 21, 2008 at 12:53 pm

Popular Wealth January 21, 2008 at 5:15 pm

When you get a site logo for JohnChow.com I see you on the cover of Maxim and Fortune Magazines next. I loaded you up on some test copies (Clicky for test copy image) and… lookin good! Go get em panda!

betshopboy January 21, 2008 at 5:48 pm

Hey John

The online article mis-spelled TTZ media as “TZZ” media network.
Spotted the error at the last second paragraph where they mentioned TechZone.

Popular Wealth January 21, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Just being on page 53 of a credible publication is whats important, typos don’t matter much so long as they get his name and image right. This will look very nice in his trophy case and it is something that other bloggers can’t replicate easily.

Being recognized is the blogging stuff of legends, typos or not!

Patrick January 21, 2008 at 6:22 pm

The quote and the pic are both great. Congratulations on the exposure. Perhaps you should celebrate by trying out another new dining location…..

MillionFace January 21, 2008 at 6:40 pm

How about have a connection with the editor or owner of the local magazine, does that help in getting a slot in the magazine !?

Congratulations on the feature. I look forward to reading the print version.

KNau January 22, 2008 at 10:15 am

Congrats on the article. It does, however, bring me back to the anti-blog sentiment at CES…

“Blogging isn’t just a pastime or marketing gambit anymore; it’s a living.”

Quite a revelation – any chance this article was written in 2001? Could print media be any further behind the times?

Affiliate Confession January 22, 2008 at 11:34 am

I just picked up tha mag an hour ago or so and besides the article about John, there’s one on how to become a billionaire. Maybe that’s John’s next step.
