If you thought you just saw a Google ad on this blog you were not dreaming. I am testing out a new Google AdSense template for WordPress. Call AdSense-Deluxe WordPress Plugin the little piece of software allows you to easily add Google AdSense or Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) ads to your WordPress posts.

The plugin is extremely easy to install and use. Just download, unzip and upload to your plugins folder. Once activated it will place an AdsenseDeluxe screen to your WordPress options panel. From there you can create multiply AdSense ad units and decide what parts of the site should have or not have ads, and what ad size to run. You can even add it within your WordPress templates. An AdSense SandBox preview tool is also included.

Right now I have globally turned off all the Google ads. Depending on reader input, I may or may not turn them back on. Lately I have really been tempted to see if a personal blog can really make money with Google, and if so, how much? I think it might make an interesting case study. What do you think? Should I leave them off, or turn them on for one month and report the results?

Find out what I am doing right now by following me on Twitter! If you like this post then please consider subscribing to my full feed RSS. You can also subscribe by Email and have new posts sent directly to your inbox.

You’d be crazy not to. Your site comes up a lot in many high paying search phrases (mortages, investing, etc) and you probably have enough traffic to warrant it.

Unlike personal blogs like mine, it wouldn’t be a total waste, and probably worth doing.

One more passenger on the MONEY TRAIN!!!!!!

They don’t look too bad to me. Personally, I would probably prefer them off, but it’s not like we’re discussing IntelliTXT here…

I think their value in terms of the experiment could well exceed any cash value. However, I would personally would think of a cut-off point ie a value they should exceed in order to justify their existence. If they’re worth $500 a month or something, and you can use that to directly cover your diaper budget then go for it.

You can go ahead and put them on if it were my choice :) I am that used to seeing ads around the internet that a site with them doesnt phase me or make me want to go away.

OK, I have turn the AdSense on for now. I’ll let it run a few days to get an idea of performance and then project how much more it will make in Q4. Then based on those findings, I’ll decided if they should stay.

Actually, turning on the ads now will get them ready for Q4. If you look around on some of the post, you’ll see blank ads because Google hasn’t spider the information yet. It can take up to a few days for that to happen.

You should stick to the inline placements. Anything else has become a waste of time:

The new template looks good. Is that a custom design?

The Theme is call MistyLook. You can get it here: http://wpthemes.info/misty-look/

Stephen - If you say stick with the inline placement, then why the hell do you have a huge 728 at the top? :)
