The Millionaire Designer Home

Today, both John Chow dot Com and The TechZone were under a Digg, Fark and Delicious all at the same time. With that much traffic coming in there really is not much you can do with the sites other than to make sure they stay up under the load. Since the servers were doing fine, I decided to take the family out to White Rock to check out the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s lottery home.

The $3.2 million 6,588 square foot luxury home is the grand prize of this year’s lottery. Located in the heart of White Rock, the grand prize home overlooks the waters of Semiahmoo Bay with the Gulf Islands off in the distance. The view from the home is breathtaking.

The interior of the home was design by nationally acclaimed designer Sarah Richardson. You can see her Design Inc show on HGTV – assuming her show is available in the US market. Sarah Richardson outfitted the home with $350,000 of furnishing and décor from her own designer collection. I assumed that was why all the sofas and chairs had “Please do not sit” tags on them. At those prices, I wouldn’t let people sit on them either!

The Dream Kitchen

Miss Richardson really outdid herself in the kitchen. Look at the sinks. There are no seams. That is because the counter top was made from one solid piece of stainless steel and the sinks were stamped in! You’ll never have to worry about a leak with this kitchen.

The custom design touches even extends to the kitchen drawers. Watch the video and you’ll understand.

As fancy as the kitchen is, Miss Richardson didn’t really go all out. She went cheap on the fridge and stove. Instead using Sub-Zero, she used Kitchen Aid. Don’t get me wrong. Kitchen Aid is good stuff, but it isn’t Sub-Zero!

If you wish to try your luck at winning the home, tickets are $100 each, three for $250 or four for $300. The winner of the home also gets two cars, one motorcycle and $250,000 of cash. That cash will come in handy since the property tax is $15,000 a year.
