IZEA Fest 2008 – IZEA Hunt

written by John Chow on September 14th, 2008

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I signed up for the IZEA Hunt at IZEA Fest 2008. This was claimed to be the craziest scavenger hunt this side of the Mississippi. The hunt is a timed event with each team of five competing to earn as many points as possible within a 45 minute window. The scavenger hunt include taking photos, videos and finding physical objects. The winning team wins $500 in Home Depot Gift cards. I guess you can use the cards to buy plywood to board up the house in case of a hurricane.

The list of items to get and things to do during the hunt was a mile long. Each item/photo/video was worth a certain amount of points. The team with the most points win. Our plan was to go after all the high point items first and then work our way down to the lower point stuff. Here’s a video of how we did. You can also check out photos of the IZEA Hunt at my photo gallery.

  1. Oh man, I hoped nobody ate any of that cake after that dude belly-flopped on top of it. lol

Looked like a great time though.

    Cheers!

  2. LOL. That is the craziest picture I have seen in a long time. That smile/laugh cracks me up.

  3. Losing to “Mommy Bloggers”…. how sad :(

  4. It was a fun time and I am really glad you participated. Thanks for being a good sport when losing to the Mommy Bloggers. I plan on using my $100 to buy a new door for my house.

  5. Looks like a WILD time, and I’m glad to hear your photo got the most points, it is THE BEST one!

I did chuckle at your video though. “A girl in high HELLS” Nice typo ;)

  6. IzeaFest looks like it was a ton of fun. I was sorry to miss it, especially since it was close and cheap. Thanks for the pictures.

  7. I’ll never beat John Chow at making money online, but I CAN beat him in a scavenger hunt! John, we had a great time at Universal Studios today and meeting you and the wife, thank you for being a gracious loser.

(Let that be a lesson to anyone who tries to mess with mommy bloggers!)

I agree with Colleen, it was great to beat John Chow in something! Woohoo…so glad you participated, and thanks for taking the pictures after with us. I brought my gift card home to my husband, since I got to be out and have fun all weekend!

  9. I’m glad you won the funniest picture. Your expressions are what made it hilarious!

  10. We will win next time!

at least we won for the best photo!!!

  11. That sounds like it was wicked. And that picture is classic. He looks like a mummy.

  12. Serious fun, with some really hard work there wrapping up the mummy, how many laps did you go John? Felt dizzy afterward?

  13. Heh, nice capture of the cake plow. I was wondering what it looked like from the other side.

  14. Great pictures all around. I saw some of the IzeaFest antics via twitter and blogs of course. I wish I could have been there to hang out with everyone.
