John Chow In BC Business Magazine

BC Business magazine finally put their article about blogging and BC bloggers online. The magazine is on newsstands now but if you don’t live in British Columbia, you may not be able to buy it. However, you can now read it on their site. Here’s a clip:
At first glance, the image on his website of two duelling, electric-blue sports cars and the slogan, “the miscellaneous ramblings of a dot com mogul,” may appear to be the markings of a pretentious teenager, but it doesn’t take long to see why Chow feels confident in calling himself a mogul. Chow is forthcoming with the results of his experiments, unlike many other bloggers. He openly talks about how much he’s pocketed, which revenue stream is pulling in the most and how he attracts the traffic that brings in the money. You’ll also read about what he had for dinner and where he went on vacation.
The article is currently the most emailed story for the magazine. You can read the full story at BC Business Online. The July issue also had a really good article about Canadians buying cars from the US and importing them into Canada in order to save thousands of dollars. I wish I read that before I purchased my new Acura TL.

Reply to this commentIndeed he does. Wonder how high will now his RSS read number jump. From his last inteview it jumped from 5k to 6k…will he break the milestone again and hit the 7k?
Reply to this commentI like the fact that his company name and logo are on the cover of the laptop. So just the photo alone is continual advertising. Genius pure Genius!!!
Reply to this commentJohn is quite evil like that
Reply to this commentI know. You evil genius! Great product placement
Reply to this commentEspecially when it spreads across the internet. I wonder if he has it tagged? (takes a look) Nope! I guess he’s so big he doesn’t have to do any optimization.
Reply to this commentYeah, that is quite the evil John Chow at work
.
Reply to this commentYou’re expanding your Empire offline!
Reply to this commentwell done john!
Reply to this commentand will get a lot visitor to his blog also
Reply to this commentOh, you’ll get there, too, Cow…
Reply to this commentWith or without you?
Reply to this commentHmmm…for your sake? I’d say without me.
Reply to this commentNice article. Looks like its a lot more indepth than the kind of stuff about blogging for money I see in newspapers/magazines in my country.
Reply to this commentwe don’t have bc mag here
Reply to this commentProbably because you’re not in British Columbia .
Reply to this commentThank God for online magazine content!
Reply to this commentCongrats! John is not only famous online but also famous on paper press too.
Reply to this commentDon’t forget TV. It is impressive since making the crossover from the online world to traditional media isn’t easy.
Reply to this commentI’m sure he’s been on the radio too!
Reply to this commentHmmm… I don’t recall him mentioning being on the radio before. John, have you been on the radio?
Reply to this commentSeems that internet popularity begets offline press too. And it seems that all of this is free, but you have to remember, a lot of these contacts were acquired before September 2006, so he’s been working at this for a while.
Reply to this commentWhat’s that TechZone.com label behind your laptop?
Reply to this commentthetechzone.com is john’s other website
Reply to this commentIt’s his flagship online venture. Probably making 10 times more than this blog. Amazing, isn’t it?
Reply to this comment10 times is probably even a conservative estimate
Reply to this commentI wouldn’t be surprised if I actually underestimated that figure. Chow’s a rich man, no one can ever deny it, not even himself.
Reply to this commentWell John definitely deserves the attention- look at how much he’s accomplished!
One Man. One Year. $100,000 online.
Reply to this commenthttp://www.oneyeargoal.com
Very intersting story of a online mogul mastermind.
Reply to this commentNice one John!
Reply to this commentI’d be publishing my earnings if I was doing as well as you were John
At the moment, they’re a little embarrassing which is why I personally keep them to myself. I suspect I’m not the only one in that situation.
Reply to this commentNo you are not the only one who is rather ashamed of their earnings. However I am very proud to admit I read John Chow dot Com and follow the steps in his FREE! Make Money Online with John Chow dot Com E Book. So just wait, one day we will be able to publish our earning too. Just follow his evil plans and we will suceed(insert evil laugh here!)
Reply to this commentI think one day will be a lot sooner than you think if you work hard enough. Remember what he said in the book? Set GOALS, not dreams. SO change your ONE DAY to something more definite.
Reply to this commentI’m thinking about publishing mine pretty soon. Even though it’s very low, think about it like this. It holds you accountable, and when your earnings GROW, people will start to wonder how and why. And those questions will prompt MORE traffic to your site as you explain it to them.
Reply to this commentThe accountability is an excellent point. I hadn’t really thought of it in that light… Might be time to stick it to myself
Reply to this commentgreat article, John continues to rise
Reply to this commentindeed, and we’re doing our best to help him too
Reply to this commentThis summer has been kind to you as far as media goes! good stuff!
Reply to this commentIt’s a good way to maximize attention because summertime is usually slow, so he pretty much corners the market because of that! There’s no distractions! Except Mr. Cow!
Reply to this commentJohn.. I know you have answered this earlier somewhere.. again asking.. How many laptops do you have…
I guess we all are interested to see a pic with all the laptops & comps you got..
Reply to this commentYou can search for an old post with John and his dual-monitor setup — pretty sweet. I think he has two laptops that he uses frequently. He could have more, but they’re probably stashed in the garage together with all his other precious junk.
Reply to this commenti don’t know weather to hate you or love you either way you are a inspiration to small time bloggers that can make it.
The only thing is that This is your second successful blog and you still seem surprised? I think you can make new marks with this new following you have going on.
Reply to this commentI think it is cool that he holds on the the same excitement. It shows his passion for blogging is geniune. Theses blogs are like children to some, do you become less excited with the creation or birth of each one?
Reply to this commentYeah, I agree with Debo on this. It’s like when some actors still can’t believe they’ve made a name for themselves. Humility is more precious than any sum of money — totally inspiring.
Reply to this commentTTZ is whole other animal. If you notice, there’s no advertising on the blog portion of their site whatsoever. This was an experiment in monetizing a personal blog.
As for hating him or loving him, just remember that one of those is constructive while the other is not
Reply to this commentHaving the article online too is great and a higher percentage of those viewers will probably convert to traffic, since they are already going to be online
Reply to this commentThat was a good read. I know a lot more about JohnChow now. And I also didn’t know what Wilf was before this either.
Reply to this commentJohn, what’s that TechZone label behind the laptop?
Reply to this commentI like the fact that his company name and logo are on the cover of the laptop. So just the photo alone is continual advertising. Genius pure Genius!!!
Reply to this commentHe has it plastered on a car, too, if I remember correctly.
Reply to this commentThat helps with taxes in Canada
If he’s leasing he can deduct the payments from his earnings. That’s why every small business owner in Canada has their company name on their car.
Reply to this commentWhy i cannot comment?
Reply to this commentIf it’s your first time to comment, it usually takes a while before it shows. Besides, you’re Harry Potter, you can do anything!
Reply to this commentThat is very impressive. I envy you.
Reply to this commentHey John. I’d love to have a signed copy! Let me know what I need to do. I’m a big believer in modeling those that have achieved success. Come over to Lewis Empire.com and leave me a comment.
Reply to this commentThanks!
John if your handing out signed copies, I’ll take one of those
Reply to this commentCool stuff, that’s got to be a highlight of your blogging career, getting in a magazine. I mean G4TV would have been awesome too.
Reply to this commentI think this is only the beginning. He’s got some good coverage, but when he his truly mainstream media, then he definitely would have arrived!!
Reply to this commentdamn I wish I could get in a magazine
Reply to this commentGreat Job John! I’m trying to track down a copy
Reply to this commentThere is no such thing as bad publicity, but, truly good publicity is a plus. Keep it up!
Reply to this commentis that hair product you’re using? hahaha . . . how uncomfortable were you? really?
Reply to this commentPretty uncomfortable!
Reply to this commentTotally can read this by online….
Reply to this commentCongratz
Reply to this commentKeep us informed of your off line tactics. Very hard to find a good resource on off line promotions techniques.
Reply to this commentAfter downloading Firefox, I then had editing capabilities, which I didn’t have previously and somehow along this learning curve, I found, to my delight, that now I could be like so many other writers and present a photograph into my stories. Wow!
All the while I was checking daily at Google to see my earnings that were supposed to keep coming in. I mean, I did set up a PayPal account so the money could be automatically deposited. Oh Boy! I was going to start raking in the cash soon.
I’d really get to travel and see the world now.
After six weeks, my total earnings were
$2.94, and Google doesn’t pay until you earn $100.00. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed and feeling dejected I removed their ads from my site.
I poured my heart into the majority of my posts. People said they liked or loved them. What’s a girl-woman-child to do?
Today, as I am visiting one of my writer friend’s site and see that YOU have gotten a rebuff from Google. Your income per month is very healthy and now you’re in a magazine.
Whilst I sit here and can only admire your moxy and fortitude…I am not feeling sorry for myself,
I certainly wish you would be my friend and guide me toward the path of riches. At least come over and visit me once a day.
Congratulations to you. cheers!
Reply to this commentJohn, in your Pickin up my Acura TL article, someone mentioned the European Delivery program for BMW or other luxury cars manufactures. You should look into the BMW European Delivery Program in Canada, for your next purchase. You will be surprised that you could actually save money by going to Europe to pick up your car. Here is the WSJ article:

Reply to this commentGreat article. Glad to finally see it in print after reading your posts about it in the past!
Reply to this commentI sure hope that John doesn’t make “$43.95 per page view.”
I am sure he does well, but not that well.
Reply to this commenti wonder how John feels about that john”cow” site. they even edited his picutre above and put a cow face. of course, i am sure they did not do it in a mean or animosity sense.
Reply to this commentI tried going to 7/11 looking for the mag but they didnot carry it
Reply to this commentI want in the magazine too, If I have a big earning like you
