John Chow on The Lab with Leo Laporte

written by John Chow on August 28, 2007

Make Money!

Look for me on today’s episode of The Lab with Leo Laporte. Leo and I will be discussing how to get traffic to your website so you can make money online. Traffic equal money so you don’t want to miss this episode!

This is my third appearance on The Lab and I’m starting to get more comfortable being in front of the camera. I think you will notice that when you see today’s show and compare it to my first appearance on the show. The Lab with Leo Laporte airs on the How To Channel in Australia and G4 Tech TV in Canada. Please check your local listings for show times.

Meet Me At The 100th Episode Celebration

The Lab with Leo is celebrating their 100th episode. Yes, they’ve taped that many shows already. The party will be at the Alibi Room at 157 Alexander Street (at Main) on Thursday, September 6 from 7PM to 10PM. If you wish to meet me, Leo and the rest of The Lab crew, then come on down! However, please send a RSVP to Kate Abraham so she can get a head count. I look forward to meeting many of the local John Chow dot Com readers.

Anyone know what time this airs? I don’t watch the Lab regularly…but I’d like to check out this section. I do get TechTV.

Wish I was close enough to make it to the party :)

Yay got to be the first one commenting lol, first time i stop watching or reading to comment and be first (i might even not be the first tho).

Jason August 28, 2007 at 6:27 am

what’s the big deal of first to be comment?

Making The Money August 28, 2007 at 7:55 am

Don’t know, John mentioned it in his e-book somewhere.

ashxx August 28, 2007 at 1:23 pm

HAHAHAHA

well if he mentioned it in his ebook…

Mubin August 28, 2007 at 8:07 am

Its the one that is viewed the most, and thus will get you the most traffic and exposure. writing a good first comment on a high traffic blog will make all the other commenters reply to you and hopefully get people clicking your link. On a blog like John’s where you can get over 100 comments on each post, thats 100 possible people seeing your link. If your somewhere around comment number 35, people will tend to skip your comment and go all the way to the bottom to reply to the post.

And thats why…

SEO Optimization August 28, 2007 at 8:36 am

Ah for me it is not the exposure that counts that much to be honest, usually even when i am the first to read the article (or at least there are no comments yet) i won’t even care to go down and comment. It would really make no sense to comment without reading the article. This time tho i just thought…humm, lets see how is the feeling of being the first to comment and why everyone wants to be the first (experimenting i guess).

Click Input August 28, 2007 at 12:54 pm

I assume they get a decent amount of traffic

Electronics Reviews August 28, 2007 at 9:01 am

thats kind of embarrassing…”yay first comment” then not being the first comment

Terra Andersen August 28, 2007 at 9:15 am

haha yeah, i know. There seem to be lots of comment wars going on here!

ashxx August 28, 2007 at 1:24 pm

too bad john doesnt allow comment editing (hint hint)

Geedos August 29, 2007 at 5:29 am

Unlucky. Sometimes it can be a little bit confusing as there’s a slight delay in comments appearing.

Good luck next time!

Why can’t there ever be any meetups like this in the UK…

Mubin August 28, 2007 at 8:14 am

We recently had one in manchester hosted by the BBC. It was alright, not alot of bloggers there talking about making money online, but still did some networking, I was the only one their blogging for profit so it was a bit weird.

Us Americans Get Left Out
Hey how about moving your base of operations into the U.S. so we get more events down here? :???: It’s funny how we always immediately presume everything takes place in the U.S. sometimes…until you throw the word Canada in there..

Controversial! As long as we don’t see Samuel L Jackson in a skirt I’m happy!

By the way John, i was trying to find the page that streams the 68th episode on Labwithleo.com but all what i found were notes about the show. Is that episode streamed on their website or any other website or the only way to watch that episode is through TV ?

Saku August 28, 2007 at 7:05 am

Will sure watch this show. Is there any archive online with all of the episodes?

Luis F August 28, 2007 at 7:16 am

Will watch for sure!

max August 28, 2007 at 8:27 am

Oh Cool! I will definitely watch and learn! :)

Wahlau.NET August 30, 2007 at 12:03 am

download and send to me?..hehe

Carl Coddington August 28, 2007 at 8:29 am

I watched your first episode with Leo. It was great. I loved Leo’s face when you told him you made $11,000. a month.

ashxx August 28, 2007 at 1:26 pm

 haha do you have a link to the first episode?

Mr. Disgruntled August 28, 2007 at 9:05 am

I will definitely watch! I expect some good tips!

Mubin August 28, 2007 at 9:08 am

John, what happened with you and agloco? No updates in awhile. i recently did a blog post on this, could you check and see if my suspicions are correct?

Terra Andersen August 28, 2007 at 9:16 am

I was wondering that too… ???

Ronaldo Camacho August 28, 2007 at 10:12 am

Maybe he’s waiting for the 25,000 mark. Or the 30,000.

Geedos September 3, 2007 at 8:24 pm

Or the 100,000 mark knowing John!

max August 28, 2007 at 9:09 am

Yeah, what happened to agloco? Is that still legit?

Chad August 28, 2007 at 9:12 am

Thanks, I’ll definitely check out that episode. I always forget about that channel.

Karol Krizka August 28, 2007 at 9:47 am

I’m already downloading the episode so I can watch it on my PSP while I’m on the skytrain. Hey, do you know if they have a RSS feed with all the vids?

Danny Tuppeny August 28, 2007 at 9:55 am

Is this gonna be available online for those of us not in Canada? :-(

Karol Krizka August 28, 2007 at 9:57 am

Hopefully someone will upload it to YouTube like they did with the latest ep John Chow was on.

James Wilcox August 28, 2007 at 10:55 am

I had the same question…where can US viewers see this?

Tyson Williams August 28, 2007 at 11:14 am

I have seen you on the Lab in the past. Is this a re-run or a new interview? Surely it helps to get your blog off the ground and flying! Leo has a big following since Screensaver on the original TechTV. I still watch his show here in Canada. Too bad that they cannot sell it for the US viewers so far.

Leo shows used to be offered on Google Video for US residents for like 0.99 a show or something but I am not sure if they still do it.

John Chow August 28, 2007 at 11:44 am

This is a new episode.

chrisblogging.com August 28, 2007 at 11:48 am

Great to hear that you got invited back…again. They must like what you have to say!

Geedos August 29, 2007 at 5:31 am

Does this mean you’re becoming a regular?

If so what kind of appearance fee are you charging?!?

Hip Hop August 28, 2007 at 12:10 pm

very interesting

Graham Lutz, The Young Capitalist August 28, 2007 at 12:11 pm

Is there a way for us southerners to watch you?

Click Input August 28, 2007 at 12:55 pm

I’ll have a look and hopefully get some good ideas! Pity Google Video is so slow here

Scooot August 28, 2007 at 1:43 pm

I went to the first one and watched and thought you were excellent. If you’re better this time around you’ll look like you started out on tv. You were the one that inspired me to start blogging. And I heard about you on the Leo Laport show.

Scooot August 28, 2007 at 1:51 pm

The leo laport show is how I heard of you. I thought you did an excellent job on your first appearance!

MyBlogContest August 28, 2007 at 4:52 pm

John on the show again  Congrats!

Aaron August 29, 2007 at 3:54 am

Loved the episode. I found it very helpful and I’ll have to try some of the methods out on my sites.

Geedos August 29, 2007 at 5:32 am

Hoorah! It’s on in Australia … now all I have to do is find someone who has the How To Channel! Hmmmm.

Aj August 31, 2007 at 12:12 pm

hey john, i saw you on the Lab with Leo, and wanted to say that it was very interesting. That is how i found out about your site, and now that i visited it, i must say that you are a genius. i read your ebook, and that is what made me start my own website. thank you.

Chris Guthrie September 1, 2007 at 3:49 pm

Being on a large tv show helps to give even more credibility to you and your blog John. I wonder how many people check out your blog after seeing you on the Lab?

Geedos September 3, 2007 at 8:23 pm

Yeah agree with that – the more offline appearances John can get using credible media sources the more popular his online presence will become and the higher his earning potetential is from that traffic.

Blogs For Money September 4, 2007 at 1:28 pm

Did anyone upload it?
