John Chow Vs. Shoemoney Winner
written by John Chow
Congrats to Shoemoney for winning the RSS competition. I had the lead right up until the last day. Then amazingly, Shoe managed to add 4,403 readers today to take the win. The final RSS count is 13,276 for me and 18,003 for Shoemoney. I gain 4,691 new RSS reader while Shoe gain 7,170 (with 4,403 coming in on the last day).
I want to thank everyone who subscribed to my RSS feed. This competition was a lot of fun. The entire point of this competition was to increase both our RSS readership and in that regard, Shoe and I are big winners. I will be drawing the rest of the RSS prizes later today and tomorrow. I will also be doing a recap on the methods I used to increase my RSS by over 4,600 readers. I’m sure Shoe will be handing out some advices as well.
Did Shoemoney Cheat?
I’ve been bombarded with tons of IM pages asking if Shoemoney cheated or game FeedBurner. He managed to gain more readers in one day than he did the entire month. I will leave it up to you to decide if there was any underhandedness going on. I will only say that Shoe is a lot more evil than I gave him credit for. ![]()

Congratulations John! Im having a competition with my net buddy 4 life, Nick Ramsay but we are at 21 and 43 readers… Nick is winning…
but maybe i can be evil
and beat him somehow!
Oops, I mean Congratulations for trying, and still you guys way surpassed the readership you have before, so I’d like to say in my books everyone is a winner!
I also forgot to mention that Nick is at http://www.longcountdown.com while I’m at http://www.michaelmckinlay.com. We are not even close to being as , or as smart as you and Shoemoney, but gosh darn it, we certainly try!!!!
To everyone wondering I guess what happened is that shoemoney decided to trick John by using an older image in the place of his feedburner chicklet and linked it to feedburner.
Yesterday shoemoney finally linked back to his original feedburner chichklet and the cat was outta the bag.
You got to give the man great respect for lulling John into a false sense of security for the whole month!
No, I checked his feed chicklet daily to make sure he wasn’t doing that. I know of quite a few ways to get 4,000+ readers in a day. I’m just not sure which method he used.
Getting 4,000 readers in a day is a desirable accomplishment for many bloggers out there, congratulations. Having a competition with other bloggers seems to be an effective way to gain more readers, I’m wondering how many of shoe’s readers you picked up and visa versa.
And those methods would be… ?
Here is one black hat way to add a few thousand artificial subscribers to your feed:
1. Have a group of people (or a bot) create free email accounts.
2. Subscribe to the feed using those email addresses
3. Confirm them
You can pay cheap labor to have this done.
An alternative approach would be to buy a large list of open proxies and subscribe to the feed from multiple IPs.
I wonder how many of the readers will stick around.
Maybe it was his viral method of the whole rock star thing to get tons of people to post about his blog on their blogs….Either way Jeremy kicked your ……and he’s a better marketer than you…
John, it would be so great if you’d share, even how to get 500 subscribers in a day
I may have to agree with you on this.

hiding the FB numbers first, then show the real FB on the last day. I can see Shoe laughing as the month is ending.
I too check the feed chicklet this morning as teh chicklet was not viewable on his webpage, because of the new Halloween design
so I decided to just check the chicklet myself and to my surprise this morning I saw the HUGE spike!
Ooops I mean congratulations Shoemoney, but then again I’d say that everyone is a winner since you both greatly surpassed the readership you had before! Nick from LongCountDown.com and I are just babies compared to you heavyweights but golly darn gee, we try!
Over 4000 subscribers in a single day! My god, I’m hoping to build up to that many in a YEAR! Anyways congrats to you both
4000 new RSS readers in a day is just totally insane. I think the Shoe did a little trick.
I wonder what he did…
I am thinking he stumbled his feed
because I did that once and my feed grew and then it kicked back to the normal number - wonder what his read will be tomorrow - who will be the real winner after the refresh!
Wow, I’d like to know how he managed that! Congrats to both of you though, both of you gained a ton of readers!
I dont think Shoe cheated. I think he had a way to hide all those numbers and didnt show it on the chicklet. And the very last day he unleashed the real numbers. its a possibility and I had wrote before as well that Shoe would pull something big at the very last moment
I thought for sure you were going to kill Shoe. Maybe it was that last simple plea from Shoe that did the trick. I know I signed up on another feed reader when he asked me to. I never paid attention to all the forced subscription methods from either side though. Like when Shoe had that subscription popup when you arrived at his sight. Congradulations to both of you!
Congrats to both of you, adding so many new readers is a huge accomplishment no matter who actually won with a bit higher number. You both ROCK!
Yea you guys definately both won with this one.
Yeah, sounds a little fishy but what can you do, right. Anyways, you both still have a significant amount of readers so neither you should lose any sleep over that’s for sure. If you are feeling generous, please feel free to send some of those readers my way
I just want to congratulate both of you for your gains. No point arguing now that it is over.
Darn it Man!!!! I favored you man.. How can he win..thats plain cheating..anyways…congratulations John..you did a very good job. No matter what you are always the hero of your readers.

Leave it to Shoe to pull a ace card from out of nowhere. That’s a huge number in one day. Well done to Shoe. John, to you too. It was an entertaining contest nonetheless.
Oops its amazing what Shoe did in last day. John, if you know about few methods to get 4000 subscribers in a day then why you didn’t use it? :p
Hear hear
Why didn’t you use the method?
4000 subs in one day? fishy, fishy, fishy….. John if you know any legit way of doing this… plz write a post abt this…. in the end u will also earn more money
SHOE CHEATED HE”S A DIRTY TRICKSTER!! hahah
Crazy. I thought this competition was over and done with. He must have been hiding his real results or something. Anyhow, you both picked up a lot of readers. Crazy.
He probably hid his numbers, made John think, oh man I’m winning… and then pulled out the real numbers, how evil…
Click for Nick - What are the keys to success?
hehehe, shoe is a smart one
This was the case of the Hair and the Tortoise race. John was off the blocks quicker and was ahead 99% of the time. Shoe took his time, but switched gears in the last minute.
Hmmn, seems a little strange I must say. He showed initiative either way anyways
Congratulations to both of you!
Now, what’s the plan for Halloween???
Hahahah! You’ve been out-eviled!
Guys it’s fucking LINKBAITH on work, johnchow and shoemoney are ONE BIG EVIL PAIR! Just imagine how much links will gain their new “game”!
Hi John
Have you been banned by Google?
If not,Google must really hate you man!
I was just now at Google and searched first for “john chow” and guess what your site didn’t appear in the first in the first 60 ! results and I don’t know if it did appear at all because after the first 60 sites I got tired.
So I wrote johnchow.com and….guess what happened again!
No johnchow.com!
Nothing man!
I thought that you wanted to know about it.
P.S. By the way did you know that there is a site called JohnCow.com?
And it appeared in the first results when I searched for your name!
dude where you have been? That is what John is famous for, being black listed by google. And yes, John cow filled the gap a long time ago which explains his traffic. Just wait kids… it will get better
you must be new around here
I guess not around here, he may be new to the blogosphere as well. Welcome to the blogosphere dude!
I think you shouldn’t waste your time writing a method on how you achieved that many RSS readers, obviously it was a money game, whoever gave out more prizes got more RSS readers. So basically more $$$ means more RSS. Cash rules everything.
So that Shoe obviously had a rabbit in his pocket… 4000 readers in one day, quiet impressing. Btw, you said you know how to get 4000 rss readers in one day, why you have not used that tip till now John?
Because they wouldn’t be real readers. It was a bit too evil to do.
John read his thread with Macro recording for facebook ads, that will show you how evil shoemoney did it!
Don’t play with the big boys hahah, yeah well shoemoney winning was expected, I mean he would never settle with a last place, that’s just not him.
I congratulate you both. It was exciting to follow the competition
What does the winner win?
It wins hundreds of RSS subscribers and backlinks. The same for the runner up.
I’m anxious to read the post Shoemoney is going to have on how he was able to do that! It kinda blows my post about the competition out of the water though.
As my beloved Oakland Raiders slogan goes “Just win Baby”
I signed up for both services yesterday because you both are really good at what you do. That said I find it terribly difficult to understand how Show added so many. Is this a temporary inflated number? BUT, as I said earlier Just Win Baby!!!!!!
