LG Canadian Texting Championship

The LG Canadian Texting Championship pits the fastest text messengers against each other to see who can SMS in the shortest time with the most accuracy. The Canada wide competition offers $25,000 in cash and prizes plus a $1,000 media challenge.

The Western division championship is taking place this weekend at Richmond Centre Mall with the winner being crowned on April 19. Anyone is allowed to enter. Come on down and try your luck! The division winner will win an all expense paid trip to Toronto to compete in the Canadian national final and a chance to win $25,000 cash and prizes and texting immortality.

Today was the media challenge. Sally and I were invited to compete against other local media outlets to see which one of us have the fasting texting fingers. The winner got $1,000 to donate to the charity of his choice. I was playing for the BC Women’s Hospital. This was the hospital where Sally was born in. Below is a video from the competition and more photos.

  1. If it was a texting challenge I would have to use my Blackberry Jav to stand any chance of competing effectively. Other phones are not very conforming to my thumbs.

  2. Hey, they need to bring one of these to the states..

Did you experience sore thumbs–or any mild hallucinations from such an exhausting competition?

p.s. sally looks so cute with the flag!

Hmmm… I’m just trying to imagine if there are any Filipinos out there who’s going to give it a shot. The Philippines was the text capital (I can’t remember what year, though) so there should be some Filipinos going to try their luck. This is an interesting contest.

  4. whoa, texting challenge?, awesome, i bet my daughter gonna won if she participated. lol

  6. I saw one of these go down in England a year ago and you should see the young kids in England text. Its insane the speeds at which they can type. Having lived there, I know that most of the mobile phone users txt one another so they have a good hand at thumbing out paragraphs in seconds…I would never stand a chance unless it was a Blackberry Bold.

  7. Haha, there are really crazy competitions out there! Brilliant :)

  8. It would’ve been more interesting and challenging if people were allowed to use their own phones, not just LG.

  10. Interesting contest. I would think kids or youngsters stand a better chance of winning. They are more into playing computer games and playing with their phones anyway.
