Looking for a New Poll Question

written by John Chow on October 21, 2008

How to make $593 in less than one hour

With 1,275 replies, I think the current poll has ran its course and it’s time for a new one. This is where you come in. Come up a great poll question and if I use it, I’ll send you an “I’m Blog This” T-Shirt from Market Leverage. You can give your recommendation(s) in the comments.

Be creative and give me a lot of polling ideas. If two readers give the same question, the winner will be the one who post it first. There is no time limit for submissions. It’s over when the new poll goes up. For those who are wondering, the poll plugin I use is call WP-Polls by Lester Chan.

How about, how many are monetizing their RSS feeds. Since this seems to be the new way forward with many blogs having thousands of RSS subscribers.

Ryan McLean October 21, 2008 at 6:11 am

How about “On your blog are you selling or giving away ebooks?” And then they can choose “I am!” or “Nope, not me.” for answers. Every blog on the web for the mmo niche seems to be giving away or selling an ebook. That way we can find out how many JC readers are doing this. ;)

Tushar Dhoot October 21, 2008 at 12:01 pm

Nice Idea.

You could also do “Do you think the economic crisis will have an effect on your income” or “the web”. Options would be “No doubt”, “No Way” and “I don’t have an income”.

Online Writers Needed- No Experience Necessary October 21, 2008 at 12:28 pm

Here is another good one. How Many people have been ripped off by Google Adsense?

Online Writers Needed- No Experience Necessary October 21, 2008 at 12:24 pm

How much have you made with the following affiliate program in one month?
1) Amazon
2) Google Adsense
3)Orbitz
4) Google Adwords (subtract how much was paid for the actual bid)
5) Other

Joe October 21, 2008 at 12:42 am

‘Are you tired of all the paid for reviews on JC?’ ;)

Chris Jacobson October 21, 2008 at 7:34 am

That’s a good one.

Sohail October 21, 2008 at 7:52 am

That is nice i will definatly say yes

TYCP Entertainment Magazine October 21, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Easy answer to that:

Don’t like them? Don’t read them.

Dev October 21, 2008 at 1:17 am

i’ll try to give you any idea when ever it will come in my mind.

judge October 21, 2008 at 1:19 am

Ask your readers how much they are earning online.

Danny Cooper October 21, 2008 at 1:59 am

Ask your readers which their favourite social network is. The advantage of this is that you will know which one to put emphasis on to boost your posts to the front pages.

Darren Singleton October 21, 2008 at 2:31 am

I agree, this would be a great question. You could also swap it about a little, asking about social networks, social bookmarking sites and twitter-like sites.

Keral Patel October 21, 2008 at 2:37 am

Create a poll that asks users do they like commenting on your blog?

Affiliate Confession October 21, 2008 at 12:10 pm

That’s a good one. Or how about do we like answering poll questions?

Ben Pei October 21, 2008 at 3:06 am

1. How Do You Find My Dining Photos?

2. Why Did You Subscribe To My RSS?

bondox October 21, 2008 at 3:11 am

Ask your readers which RSS reader do they use?. Like is it google reader, firefox e.t.c,

Downloadic October 21, 2008 at 4:12 am

Ask their Location. Some users may be close to Mogul :)

Bryn Youngblut October 21, 2008 at 4:15 am

How about a poll asking if people care about polls anymore.

Jerry Ong October 21, 2008 at 5:34 am

Do a survey on ” How much JohnChow.com readers make money online a month”

Nate October 21, 2008 at 5:54 am

You should do a poll asking readers some of the main reasons they comment on blogs (to be a part of the community, to give advice to others, to provide feedback, to drive traffic to their blog etc.) It would be interesting to see people’s reasoning for interacting through the comments.

John W October 21, 2008 at 5:59 am

Who are the best bloggers in the world? Australians, Canadians, or Americans? ;-)

Collin - Affiliate Marketing October 21, 2008 at 6:36 am

Canadians

ZK@WebTrafficROi October 21, 2008 at 8:38 am

Canada rocks

angelin October 21, 2008 at 11:57 am

I think. Americans.. No ? http://www.you-v.com

TYCP Entertainment Magazine October 22, 2008 at 2:15 am

Yeah, I’m going to go with Americans…

Stanley Tang October 21, 2008 at 6:22 am

How much does your blog earn you?

1. I dont have a blog
2. Less than $100 per month
3. $100-$1000

etc

Rory Hansen October 21, 2008 at 6:42 am

What social network is driving you the most traffic?

Collin - Affiliate Marketing October 21, 2008 at 6:43 am

What would you like me to post about more often.

1) Building a proper blog foundation (how to focus 3 different area’s of traffic)

2) How to start Video blogging (editing, production etc- tutorial videos)

3) How to build affiliate marketing into your blog posts to increase income

4) Why I think Shoemoney is a second rate blogger

Those could be example qquestions, or you could always do the classic poll like below.

Who are you voting for in the next presidential election?

uncle wilco October 21, 2008 at 7:12 am

Should I write more posts asking my readers to create my content?

;)

Chris Jacobson October 21, 2008 at 7:33 am

Question: “Who is your favourite Dot Com Pho member?”

Then list off the regulars that attend. lol

Michael Kwan October 21, 2008 at 8:28 am

This would be a great question, but I have a feeling that most John Chow dot Com readers would vote for John Chow! If Stephen posted the poll on his blog, he’d probably win. If Ed posted on his blog, he’d probably win. If I posted on my blog…

Then again, everyone loves the Segway-crashing Kwanye, right? :)

ZK@WebTrafficROI October 21, 2008 at 8:47 am

Chris should win this for his question :)

Puzzle Baron October 21, 2008 at 8:03 am

Question: “At what point do you quit the daily grind (i.e. 9-5 job) and focus 100% on your online business?”

- When I’m making 75% of my current salary
- When I’m making 100% of my current salary
- When I’m making 150% of my current salary
- When I’m making 200% of my current salary
- When I’m making 300% of my current salary

AverageGal October 21, 2008 at 9:00 am

I like this one! Definitely a question that a lot of bloggers stuggle with!

TYCP Entertainment Magazine October 22, 2008 at 2:06 am

Good one. It’d be interesting to see the results for this.

Michael Kwan October 21, 2008 at 8:32 am

Question: Aside from the “make money online” niche, what other types of blogs do you enjoy reading?

1. Technology
2. Lifestyle
3. Sports
4. Automobiles

etc.

ZK@WebTrafficROi October 21, 2008 at 8:43 am

Johnny October 21, 2008 at 8:53 am

If you were suddenly independently wealthy, would you rather?

stay where you live and keep your job.

stay where you live but quit your job.

move into a mansion.

emigrate to a rural area outside the U.S.

MLDina October 21, 2008 at 9:30 am

While I don’t need another ML shirt, here are a few suggestions for you:

What topic would you like to see written about more?
What is your favorite blog post from JohnChow.com?
How often do you tweet a day?
What’s your favorite affiliate network (wink wink)?
Who is going to AdTech? Affiliate Summit?
Do you watch MLTV?

I’m sure I can come up with some more, but I think those are a good start. If you use any of mine, feel free to give a shirt away to a reader. :)

samuel October 21, 2008 at 9:53 am

Which is the greatest blog ever? john chow, shoemoney or problogger

Zak Show October 21, 2008 at 10:51 am

Do you still enjoy reading guru’s ebooks?

1. Yes, I love to.
2. If big names talk about it
3. Nevermind, I enjoy reading anything free.
4. Hell NO! I don’t believe that crap anymore!

Mario October 21, 2008 at 10:58 am

Question: What are the reasons you work online?

Debo Hobo October 21, 2008 at 11:15 am

Who’s blog do you read first each day

1. John Chow
2. ProBlogger
3. Shoemoney
4. Entrepreneur’s Journey
5. Other

Affiliate Confession October 21, 2008 at 12:07 pm

How about “Who’s the most evil person on the web?” Regardless of who the other choices were, you would still win John.

kevin October 21, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Wonder Woman or Bionic Woman

they call me mr pig October 21, 2008 at 2:40 pm

Who is/was the best BatMan?

soares October 21, 2008 at 2:47 pm

john chow

both cpycat me

Josten October 21, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Is twitter usless?
yes
no

Zak Show October 21, 2008 at 4:00 pm

How about a simple one to know how people see you John?

Do you like John Chow as a person ( referring to the evil case :p )
1. Yes
2. No

Personally I’ll vote yes, I like the way that you deal with people and the strategy that you follow to hunt opportunities and make money online.

Mike Huang October 21, 2008 at 4:18 pm

I’ll take my whack at this, but I’ll keep things VERY simple.

Since you usually blog about non-related things because you have the “RAMBLINGS” category, your question should be:

Do you enjoy my food posts?

1. Yes
2. No

Simple, but effective to see how your readers are actually enjoying your fine dining experiences :)

-Mike

Zak Show October 21, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Pesonally, I like these posts, kind of funny and cool!

TYCP Entertainment Magazine October 22, 2008 at 2:07 am

I think they’re wicked.

TYCP Entertainment Magazine October 21, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Are you making over $30,000 per month?

How many affiliate programs have you joined?

Do you believe RSS feed counts are important?

How long have you been visiting John Chow dot Com?

TYCP Entertainment Magazine October 21, 2008 at 8:54 pm

I have another one:

Has my free eBook helped you make money?

CoolProducts October 22, 2008 at 12:09 pm

I was also thinking about this one. I think that this is a good way for the users of this site to give accurate feedback without having to email to tell you how well you helped them or their blog.

TYCP Entertainment Magazine October 23, 2008 at 1:11 am

Yeah, I agree with you.

Caleb October 24, 2008 at 11:46 am

No…but this one has ;)

Jason Sieckmann October 21, 2008 at 10:05 pm

What monetary system should replace the fiat system? I say gold standard. Is that related to this blog? Never mind…

Funny Chix Dot Com October 22, 2008 at 6:44 am

I’d really like to see a poll about the relative effectiveness of social networks as traffic builders. Twitter, MySpace, StumbleUpon, and so on. The results might be surprising.
Have a very happy day.

Infogle.com October 22, 2008 at 9:01 am

Here’s my try for the poll question:

Q: Why is inflation rising around the world?
Options:
1. People have enough money
2. Simply Mismanagement of resources
3. Bad Economic Policies from Developed Countries
4. Increasing Population and less products available

Hope this poll question qualifies as this is the current hot topic around the world on everyone’s mind that why the inflation is increasing day by day and what are the reasons for it. It will be good to have this as a poll as this will finally come out with views that what people believe about this.

Thai Girl October 22, 2008 at 10:33 am

Ask the readers what type of blog are they. Give them categories. We will be able to see what type of bloggers are reading your blog. I think the results will be surprising! My blog for instance has nothing to do with making money.

Steven-Sanders October 23, 2008 at 2:32 pm

I think that’s a great idea! I’d be interested in seeing what categories of bloggers John gets.

hairsols October 23, 2008 at 11:10 am

i will try to give you my idea as soon as i have one
btw nice concept…

Wess Stewart October 23, 2008 at 9:51 pm

What should I make a poll about?

a) Shoemoney’s baldness
b) Review of a fast food restaurant
c) 5 reasons I should stop blogging and love the bomb
d) Cowboy Neal is not really a topic
e) How to drive traffic by encouraging interaction from the readers

Caleb October 24, 2008 at 11:43 am

A good poll would be to ask which traffic generation method do you find to be most profitible…choices could be ppc, article writing, buying media, classy ads, etc.

rani November 8, 2008 at 10:32 pm

What kind of blog would you set up, if you are new to the world of online selling?
~ fashion + accessories blog
~ technology + gadgets blog
~ SEO service blog
~ educational material blog
