Mailchimp Mailing Platform – Run By Monkeys

If you’re using Mailchimp to do your email affiliate marketing, you better consider switching to Aweber. According to Shoemoney, Mailchimp updated their TOS with a nice little line that prohibits Affiliate Marketing links in emails using their service. The stupid thing about this is Mailchimp has their own affiliate program. I guess you can’t use Mailchimp to promote it anymore! Other things you can’t promote with Maichimp include:

  • Illegal goods or services
  • Escort and dating services
  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Work from home, Internet Lead-gen, Make money on online opportunities, etc.
  • Online trading, day trading tips, or stock market related content
  • Gambling services, products or gambling education
  • Multi-level marketing
  • Affiliate marketers
  • Credit repair, get-out-of-debt content
  • Mortgages and/or Loans
  • Nutritional Supplements, Herbal Supplements or Vitamin Supplements
  • Pornography or nudity in content
  • Adult novelty items or references in content
  • List brokers or List rental services
  • Marketing or sending commercial email without proper permission

I am so glad I use Aweber for all my email marketing needs. Not only are they the best in the business, but they welcome affiliate marketers and don’t have a problem with you putting an affiliate link in your emails, as long as you adhere to their service agreement. Shoe had this interesting side note on his post.

I started with Aweber a long time ago but have moved on to lots of other services over the years… I have always come back to Aweber. There is no better service.

Some people have to learn the hard way. I started with Aweber, and I never left. 🙂

  1. I have tried a number of services and I would agree with you in saying that Aweber is probably the best one out there.

    1. Whitney says:

I haven’t ever tried Aweber, but I intend to start! I’m currently using Mailchimp, and after learning this, I feel like an idiot. You live you learn!

      1. Erwin Miradi says:

I haven’t use it for my personal blogs either. But I have several affiliate marketing sites using Aweber’s service and I say you should really try it too.

      2. PPC Ian says:

AWeber is fantastic. While I have never used Mail Chimp I must say you can’t go wrong with AWeber. Although Mail Chimp does have a catchy name.

    2. Erwin Miradi says:

Yeah Aweber is indeed the best one out there now. And it’s also affordable too which is why John is always recommending it.

      1. PPC Ian says:

It’s true, AWeber really is affordable.

    3. Party Ideas says:

Yes Gerri i think everyone is agree about aweber is probably the best one out there.

  2. Melvin says:

Like seriously? I mean thats what email marketing is mostly about right? I sure hope they can redeem themselves from this booboo!

    1. fazal mayar says:

yes me too, they have to step up thei rgame

  3. Adam says:

    Hey John,

I know Aweber is the industry-leader for email marketing… but what do you use for CRM, eCommerce, and automation?

I’ve heard infusionsoft is good as you can build your email campaigns and segment customer lists while handling and automating sales tasks, upsells, payment plans, etc.

Is it beneficial to have everything accessible through one integrated system… or would you advise organising these services through different providers?

  4. SportsNub says:

Well, this is just pathetic. I mean how can they dis allow Affiliate marketing links. I am surely gonna switch now.

  5. GamesDunia says:

I’m little confused why they just updated their TOS in such a critic way, well let’s see what happen next.

  6. Phil says:

The monkey wants to be holier than the Pope.

    1. Haitham says:

Aweber still the best service i think.

      1. Whitney says:

I’m ready to try Aweber, heard so many good things about it. One thing’s for sure, I’m not using Mailchimp anymore!

  7. Wasim Ismail says:

That’s what I say, go for the best for your business. 🙂
Aweber rocks, I’ve used both, Mailchimpand Aweber. Aweber is Mails ahead, in terms of features, support, and flexibility.

  8. Really have to think about it.

  9. GamesDunia says:

I’m not sure about which one is good enough to use.

    1. Whitney says:

It’s clearly Aweber, please don’t waste your time with anything else! This is apalling!

  10. Ryan Cruz says:

    It is a great post!
It has a lot of good points in it.

  11. Samantha says:

Never used Aweber, but might just give them a try. I’ve heard that many people the moment they see an Aweber email in their inbox they instantly delete it…

    1. Yes, spam stamp in e-mail scare people, change to another company.

  12. Dan Thorley says:

I have always used Aweber and not had any major problems. It is worrying to hear about mailchimp as I know a lot of newbies have started using it recently because it is free, but these new changes could be a nasty shock to many of them.

    1. Good service and no problems with the illegal marketing practices, why should you switch to something else then?

  13. chris says:

I emailed them when i saw this too and they told me what i was doing was ok and i have affiliate links in my mails some emails only have aff links in it so I don’t know maybe they are just trying to scare away people who like to abuse their free accounts. I’ve used Aweber, but mailchimp is sooooo much easier and their interface is way better. I can put blog thumbnails into my email that can be viewed on nearly every mail platform, try to do that with aweber in 2 minutes. food for thought.

  14. very good, congratulations on text! already in my favorites!

  15. fazal mayar says:

aweber is the best and its not even close, never tried mail chimp though 😀

  16. awesome post! Chow’s style 🙂

    And yes stick with aweber

    Cheers,
    Jorge

  17. Hi John,
How bout that WordPress 3.2.1 ? That’s some smokin’ hot software isn’t it ? A blind man could see it in a minute. And ……… it’s FREE!

I pay $19.00 a months for AWeber …….. not quite, but close to, total trash. It gets the job done but that’s about it. Their opt-in forms are a cruel joke. Michael Dunlop’s Pop-up Domination blows them right out of the water, period.

I actually tried to write an FREE opt-in on the AWeber Service. After about a week, I gave up trying to explain what is poorly written software and an even harder website to navigate.

I understand the thinking of “If you have a better idea” and I just wish I had the time. My intent is not to kick tires here, rather to offer a frustrated opinion.

AWeber …….. an Internet Marketing necessary evil I’m afraid.

    1. Whitney says:

Hmmm…I’ve never in my life heard anyone bash Aweber. Very interesting. All I’ve heard so far, besides you, are good things. I’m gonna have to go with the masses here 🙂 Thanks for your input though.

      1. PPC Ian says:

That’s a good point. I have never seen anyone bash AWeber. Although having folks like John on your side certainly can’t hurt.

  18. AWeber is by far the easiest to use in my opinion. Everything is very user friendly. I have used them for my marketing list for years.

  19. internetsalsa says:

Majority of junk mails come via aweber. Mailchimp is trying to be clean…

    1. PPC Ian says:

I don’t get any junk mail from AWeber. I only get emails I opted into. Moreover it’s super easy to opt out.

  20. GamesDunia says:

Something is going wrong with Mailchimp may be.

  21. fas says:

AWeber is totally not beatable at this moment.

    1. fazal mayar says:

yes its not and wont in the near future

      1. Never say it, was always awake, there are always coming new entrants on the market.

  22. Yeah yes its true Aweber is the best email marketing software in the industry. Thank god its ther

  23. Hey, i am also using Aweber. This really good..

  24. Yes it should be fix up either they will loose their business.

  25. GamesDunia says:

I think Aewber is good enough for uses.

  26. Whitney says:

John – this is the biggest load of CRAP I’ve ever seen! I’m currently using Mailchimp. No more! Not being able to promote affiliate links in emails? What is this, Nazi Germany? I’m definitely switching to Aweber. Thanks for informing us so we can quit wasting our time!

  27. Erwin Miradi says:

I’ve been using so many services out there. But when it comes to email building, Aweber is still the best for me.

  28. David S. says:

As a french user unfortunately aweber does not handle specials chars like é correctly and I would recommend http://www.weesoo.info as provider. Like aweber they offer a good affiliate program with interesting commissions (you may register at http://opportunite.weesoo.info to get a demo).

Beside this I totally agree that aweber is the place to go and I hope they will change their policy soon to handle other languages. Where Mailchimp is trying to go with such TOS btw !? nowhere ?

  29. PPC Ian says:

John, the titles of your posts are really funny!

  30. I was previously using MailChimp and changed to AWeber just a couple a months ago. I am glad I changed. AWeber is a lot better and more userfriendly that MailChimp. Thumbs up for Aweber.

  31. Party Ideas says:

Lot of funny tittle by you John, glad to read your post..!!

  32. Party Ideas says:

John your above mentioned the 15 point about Maichimp affiliate program which are really inspiration for everyone.so you are a outspoken man..

  33. Kavya Hari says:

Aweber is totally great and its looks too good in it 🙂

  34. Gift Ideas says:

Good to know about Maichimp. Nice sharing.

  35. this move of Mailchimp will surely reduce their user pool. If you allow such a nice service, this is bad to force some sort of limitations to your end users.

  36. If we use junk mails its will affect the normal mailing service

  37. I use Aweber… I never liked mailchimp because they parade themselves as a free service – but I think after a certain amount of leads captured they start charging you… I’m not sure how it worked exactly; but from the very 1st day I saw mailchimp I disliked it and didn’t trust it… They’re headed for failure just like ning.

Remember Ning? It is another one that changed their TOS mid growth – look at them now – nobody cares for that stupid network…

One word of advice to online startups: you can’t switch up the rules in the middle of the game! It’s bad for business and very dishonest if you ask me… Right Netflix?
