Text Link AdsKonterra

Kontera ContentLink is one of John’s top money makers and can be a very good income source for bloggers. One problem that many Kontera publishers run into is that the ContentLink JavaScript will sometimes link to bold and heading text. John has previously discussed some ways to optimize Kontera ContentLink, but in order to prevent bolded text from being included in ContentLink, he suggested using a text filter span.

<span name=KonaFilter>Any text within the span will not get spidered for
ContentLink</span>

This solution does indeed work, but what if you have hundreds of posts already published on your site? No one wants to go in and manually edit a boatload of posts just to add in a span tag for bolded text.

Automate Bold Text Exclusion In ContentLink

I contacted Kontera and asked them to provide a better solution. Lucky for us, the Kontera team is very responsive and the developers were able to quickly add an enhancement to address this issue. If you would like to automatically exclude bolded text from ContentLink, just add the following line of code into your ContentLink JavaScript block.

var dc_isBoldActive= ‘no’ ;

I have implemented this enhancement on my site, WesleyTech, and I no longer have any bold text being linked by Kontera. This solution should make ContentLink exclude any text wrapped in the following tags: <b>, <strong>, <h1>, <h2>, <h3>. Happy ContentLinking! -Wes

Sign Up Kontera ContentLink

Kontera ContentLink allows you to make money from advertising without giving up any current advertising spots. Their technology reads your post and turns certain words into an ad. The highlighted words are double underline and an ad pops up when you hover over it. Normally Kontera requires a site have a minimum 500,000 page views per month before being accepted into the program. However, John has a partnership with Kontera that will allow smaller blogs to use their ContentLink service.

Fill out the application and enter “John Chow Kontera partnership” into the Comments field. The application is sent to John’s personal account representative. He will approve you based on your blog content and not your traffic level. This is a great way to use a service that is normally only available to high traffic sites.

Nice to know they did this. I found it a bit annoying when things in bold or headers were content linked ;)

Though I had to scrap the Kontera links on my site, I just don’t get the traffic to keep them around. Who knows.. perhaps one day :)

All any network, your mileage will vary. Anywhere from $1 to $5 CPM. I’m averaging $3.00.

That’s right about where I am. Well, $2.75 to be exact. But that’s only recently. Before my Effective CPM was down around 90 cents. Yikes!

I only made $5 with Kontera thus far. The problem with it is that you need A LOT of traffic to make some money out of it.

From my experience with Kontera on my two blogs, there were two keys to Kontera success and that is why I ended up removing the ads from my one site.

I think for the April totals Kontra almost passed Adsense. I think they were within $100 of each other. I’d like to add it to my site soon.

I tried Kontera for a week and rolled in around $5 from it. I decided to take it off the site as I found it a bit too invasive on the reader experience.

Today’s post is a great tip on the automated Text Exclusion, I think this is something many of us bloggers wants to eliminate.

I stopped using them because too many links were close together.

One BLOG post would have 6 links and the one under it would have 1 or 2. It made my BLOG look junky havine too many links so close together.

If they can spread out the links better I might give them a second try.

For my blog, it did almost nothing as far as income, if anything, it drove readers away. From my research, most people think they are annoying. I took them off after the first month.

John, I was wondering if you could check out any “news” sites and perhaps even rate them in terms of how they place their ads. (They don’t have to be big reviews, but who’s doing a good job and who’s not doing so hot.) I’d be curious to hear what you think.

Yeah, I made the cut. Thanks again John. I have Kontera on my main blog. I also contacted them to add Kontera to my other (17) blogs that I post at every day, plus my video sites (5) and forums (5).

The sites actually belong to my friend but I do all the work and since all 3 AdSense slots are used up on most I had to find an alternative. I will run it passed my friend today since I am going over to pick up 2 weeks pay ($40 LOL its alot in the Philippines) for maintaining his sites. He will probably go for it. Anyway been up for 27 hours straight and its time for bed.

    Latter and thanks again

    Nick

Kontera seems like a good source of revenue but the ads, that are placed within the content, seems to interfere and lower the user experience.

I’ve just signed up for the programs a few weeks ago, and am using it, and I guess it doesn’t make much negative effect, but really, if I’m getting 7 cents per click, that’s a good click.
So it’s not really worth to anybody who doesn’t have tons of visitors every day.
