A few days ago, Neil Patel introduced me to one of his client sites. The site, Poker Affiliate Programs, is unique because of the amount of money it makes (they gave Neil a free Black Amex) and the level of talent behind it. After checking out the site, I decided it’s worth writing about because you can definitely learn from it.

In the past few years, the game of Poker has become a national pastime. Thanks to shows like the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker, the game is being played by more people than ever before. Poker is one of the only games in the world where an amateur can go head to head against a professional and win.

While you can make money at the Poker table if you’re a good player, most players will end up lining the pockets of the sharks. Another way to make money with Poker is with affiliate programs and this is where Poker Affiliate Programs (RSS feed) comes in.

What is Poker Affiliate Programs

Poker Affiliate Programs was established to provide webmasters who are interested in promoting online poker a place to research, discuss and gain insight into the business. They achieve this by providing a networking environment (Forums) for both new affiliates and experienced marketers alike. Affiliates can gather and exchange ideas and information while interacting with the actual programs they are promoting.

The site also maintains a blog that is filled with affiliate marketing tips that are not only good for the poker affiliate, but also great for the average blogger trying to make money online. This is where the real value of the site comes in. Some of the posts you’ll want to check out include:

There is enough diversity in the posts to make Poker Affiliate Programs a daily read for anyone interested in making money online. The methods used to promote poker affiliates can be applied to any other affiliate programs. The site is updated daily so you should sign up for their RSS feed if you don’t want to miss a single post.

I wonder if Poker Affiliate Programs will give me a free Black Amex?

Find out what I am doing right now by following me on Twitter! If you like this post then please consider subscribing to my full feed RSS. You can also subscribe by Email and have new posts sent directly to your inbox.

The poker niche is a very slippery slope.

Those blog posts sure do look interesting. What a way to blend the poker world with the blogging world. I guess affiliate marketing tips are, indeed, applicable in a wide variety of contexts. Not just the poker industry, but other industries. They are universal tips that can be applied anywhere and at any time.

I don’t know how to play poker, but it’s a big deal right now. All my friends get mad at me cause I never go with them to have a poker night every saturday.

I actually have also this poker / casino blog for couple of years now and I totally agree, it’s a great way to make money. It’s an extra 300 bucks every year in average. And the best is, once you referred someone you get revenue from the player for the rest of your life.

I got into gambling affiliate programs for a while but backed off after the U.S. Gov got all weird about it. Not sure of their stance any more. Might have to check it out.

Interesting ideas, I’ll definitely read more into it. I tried Wass Online awhile back but it wasn’t successful at all, and it’s a lot harder to market since a lot of places won’t let you advertise gambling. You tried it John?

Thanks for the write up John. The poker affiliate market is a great affiliate vertical where there is tons of money to be made still. Even if the U.S. online poker market were to completely disappear, which it won’t, there are several emerging international markets that can drive significant sign-ups and conversions.

Again, thanks for the write up.

I think everyone missed the boat already . . . . $350 CPAs were the norm only two years ago . . . prior to the stupid Anti-Terroism bill that effectively killed online poker in the United States

Hey Gary, I am glad you commented here because thats the feeling LOT of affiliates have when they are checking into promoting poker/casino. I would say that you can still get $300+ CPA but you’ll have to be able to send a lot of players each month. It’s a volume game at that point; however most every program will may you $200 per player.

‘effectively killed online poker in the United States’
    - A lot of people who aren’t regular online poker players and those who didn’t promote it much often think this is the case. This is not true. Right now there are over 150k players from the US playing poker online…right now! While Party Poker left the scene other giants like Pokerstars and Full Tilt continue to accept US players each day by the thousands. If anything there is more money to be made now than 2 years ago,

I’ve lost too much money with poker. My problem was going on TILT.

I just got a creative business card slogan: “Bad at poker, good at everything else!”

Looks good… but the amount of effort needed to see results in the gambling niche is unbearable.

A couple of things to note about the pokeraffiliateprograms site…

#1 - most hosts, and many states, will not allow a gambling site.
#2 - search engines will not readily list a gambling site.

If you decide to promote poker that’s a great group of programs but be prepared to promote heavily against deep pocketed competition and consider hosting the site yourself.

The reason Mr Patel gets a black Amex isn’t because of how much the site makes but because you need a heavyweight marketer with solid connections to beat the competition. John you’re not going up against a Neil Patel backed site are you?

Marketing poker programs is just short of making money in online porn, as far as I’m concerned.

I have gained few dollars from this type of affiliate networking before, but it has never proven to be truly profitable, but then again I didn’t try as hard as I probably could have.

People doing affiliate marketing for poker always get a bad name. Everybody is thinking you are spamming them. In the end of the day, why would it be different from doing any other affiliate marketing? I can’t see why.

There was a big boom in poker in the last several years as a result of Moneymaker winning the WSOP main event off of a $40 satellite. There is money to be made in poker, but as with any affiliate program you have to put the effort into making it work for you.
