Meet Me At The Following Events

A big part of my success as a blogger comes from networking with other like minded people. The old saying, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” really is true. I attend a ton of industry related events not so much for the knowledge these events offer. I attend so I can meet and network with the top people in the industry. If you’re really serious about making money online, then you need to get out there and network. Here are the events I’ll be at in the next few months. I hope to meet you at a few of them.

July 29: Vancouver Bloggers Meetup

I’ve attended a few of these in the past and the mixture of people was enough to make it wroth my while. The Vancouver Blogger Meetup takes place at the The Black Water Cafe on 280 Carrall Sttreet, Vancouver. Start time is 7PM and cost is $1.50. What the $1.50 covers, I’m not really sure. RVSP for the event here.

August 10-12: Affiliate Summit East

The eastern leg of the Affiliate Summit takes place in Boston at the Boston Seaport Hotel. The Affiliate Summit is the biggest affiliate marketing show in the world, attracting over 4,000 attendees. Not only can you meet a bunch of affiliate networks but you’ll be able to network with some of the biggest affiliate marketers in the world.

Cost of the Affiliate Summit range from $199 for a exhibit hall pass to $1,449 for a full conference pass. If you can get a group of five or more together, you can save some money. I plan to stay in Boston for a few extra days to check out the sites and kill some lobsters.

September 11-13: IZEAFest

IZEAFest takes place in sunny Orlando Florida at the Grand Bohemian Hotel. The event caters to bloggers and includes a first rate list of speakers. Myself and Shoemoney are both speaking at IZEAFest.

The best part about IZEAFest is the price. It’s only $65 for the entire three days. Give them $85 and they’ll toss in tickets for a blogger takeover day at Universal Orlando. In terms of bang for the buck, it doesn’t get much better than IZEAFest.

September 20-21: Blog World Expo

If you’re a blogger and can only attend one big event each year, then Blog World Expo is your best bet. Taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Blog World Expo is the ultimate place to learn about blogging and network with other bloggers.

Tomorrow is the last day for early bird pricing. An exhibit only pass cost $75 ($150 if you want to attend the opening night party) and a full access pass cost $300.

I will be speaking on two panels at Blog World Expo. One with Zac Johnson and one with Rick Calvert, the founder of Blog World Expo.

How To Attend The Major Shows for Free

Not everyone can pay $300 to attend a Blog World Expo or $1,449 to attend an Affiliate Summit. Once you add in the cost of travel and hotel, the cost of attending a major trade show could top many thousands of dollars. However, there is a way to get into most major trade shows for free.

Apply for a Media Pass.

If your blog is big enough, you may qualify for a media pass which will grant you full access to the show at zero cost. That could add up to a significant saving. Both Affiliate Summit and Blog World Expo offer free passes to media that meet their requirements. What are those requirements? Generally, your blog topic needs to be along the same theme as the trade show and your blog needs to have “significant” readership.

How many readers does it take to have significant readership? That’s up to the sole discretion of show management. Your best bet is to just apply for the media pass. The worst thing that can happen is they say no. You can still get a normal pass if they say no. However, they might say yes.

  1. If you make it to Houston, we’ll meet up and I’ll treat you to some real Texas BBQ and we’ll go out and shoot something!

    1. John Chow says:

Texas BBQ sounds great. Shooting something sounds, well, depends on what we shoot. I kinda figure the best way to kill a lobster is by boiling it. But shooting it would work too, I guess. 😈

      1. mr nice guy says:

Oh hahaha so clever JOhn. Shooting really should be figured out hahaha…or else you will be the next day’s headlines in newspapers in Houston.

        1. I just had the best BBQ sauce the other day from Texas. My friend ordered it from a place called Roy’s, I think. Anyway, the best combination of sweet and spicy I’ve ever had. I don’t think I can go back to any other BBQ sauce after that.

  2. Hey there.. I would love to come and go shooting Too !

What do you reakon about that ?

    1. I think you spelled “reckon” wrong. 😈

      1. Reckn’ is a redneck word, it can probably be spelled any way you want. LOL!

  3. dcr says:

No one ever wants to come to Ohio. What should that tell me?

    1. Pam Hoffman says:

Hey, Kevin Nations is From Ohio (and so am i!).

Ohio has a lot to offer. Trees, green grass, the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame!

I LOVE Ohio. Most of my family is there and I’m hoping to get to one of the Seminars there – Kevin does his there and a few others show up there too. I can do a search in my database if you want, just ask!

I bet you could find a ‘meetup’ in your area dcr.

I bet there is SOMETHING there for you!

Ohio, The Heart of it All (my uncle put that on the license plates years ago when he was the Governor of Ohio).

      1. dcr says:

Ohio, The Heart of it All (my uncle put that on the license plates years ago when he was the Governor of Ohio).

1984. That’s close to when my family moved here, which was summer 1982.

I bet you could find a β€˜meetup’ in your area dcr.

Thanks. Found something close. But, does it still count if John Chow isn’t there? πŸ˜‰

    2. Nothing wrong with Ohio as far as I remember…

  4. why doesnt anyone ever want to come to Ohio DCR… ?

    1. John Chow says:

That’s like asking someone to go to Lincoln Nebraska. 😈

      1. Lincoln Nebraska is awesome!

        1. What’s in Lincoln, Nebraska? Corn fields?

          1. Memorial Stadium and the Nebraska Cornhuskers of course! πŸ˜€

      2. Keith says:

I guess Iowa is out of the question then…more corn. more farms. haha.

      3. dcr says:

Nah. We cut down all the corn fields and built McMansions.

  5. i really want to meet you and go network… but what can I do? I don’t have much money to go there. It is too far from my country.

  6. Michael Kwan says:

It’s not even about who you know… it’s who knows you!

    1. “Who knows you” is definitely just as important. You want the top people in your business coming to YOU for partnerships & whatnot.

  7. We’ll I will have to get my things packed then !!!… So how else is coming it should be a good event Guys & Gals.

  8. Blogworld might be interesting. Get lots of swag?

    1. John Chow says:

You’re walk away at least with a dozen or more T Shirts. And the usual pens and stuff.

  9. Is there any chance that your going to visit INDIA.

  10. John, there are a lot of good places to eat in Boston. I know you’re into the more high-end stuff, but the North End boasts some of the best hole-in-the-wall Italian eateries around. Oh, and if you’re in that neighborhood, avoid Mike’s Pastries (too overcrowded and overrated).

  11. CatMail says:

I wish to come to Ohio!! πŸ™‚

    1. dcr says:

Even with the dreaded assassin bug on the loose? πŸ˜‰

  12. Bro Alex says:

Far too expensive that will pay a trip for 2 in the Barbados Islands.

  13. Runtslife says:

All of them are too far away for me, unfortunately. πŸ™

  14. Eric D says:

In addition to good old fashioned networking opportunities I think it is safe to say that you (John Chow) has achieved a certain celebrity status as well in the blogging world. Pretty soon people will be wanting your autograph and then selling it on e-bay to make money online. hahaha.

You are truely and inspiration to those that seek to make money online and to be able to network with you would obviously have it’s benefits. Just watch out for the John Chow groupies out there….

  15. I am super keen to network with people, however I live in Australia so I will need to find some other events to network with people in.
At the moment I will continue to network online as best I can to build my entrepreneur blog

    1. Jacob says:

Sometimes, that’s all you really can do. Network with people online, make friendly with all of them and then when you’re making more money from the work that you do, you pay to go to one of these events and then meet them face to face. Hell, I do business with a ton of people I’ve never met and then we meet and boom, there’s your networking.

  16. Roger Samara says:

Affiliate Summit is the best show.
However, not sure what to expect as its the first time being held in Boston. I remember last years Miami show had a bit too much partying so maybe this was a good move.
Hopefully, we can run into each other.
    Roger Samara

  17. These sound great, but one of them should do something in NYC sometime.

  18. IronBlogger says:

Wow, thats quite the line-up you got their John. I really wish I could get out and network more often, but with school and work it’s really hard to find the time to attend these events.

Maybe once I get my life organized and figured out then I will give it a roll.

Hope you have a good time, be sure to show us some videos of you dancing or something at the after parties :P.

  19. zk says:

is there a schedule of your tour dates on your site πŸ™‚

    1. John Chow says:

I guess I should make one, huh?

  20. SuperCrushed says:

Affiliate Summit East will be badass…we are SuperCrushed will be present..can’t wait!

  21. Warning: If you plan on attending Affiliate Summit East you should know that your personal information and home address will be sold to others unless you “opt-out” of that.. which many people didn’t even know about to begin with. Shady stuff…

  22. John,
I look forward to meeting up with you again at Affiliate Summit and BlogWorld.

  23. Vancouver Bloggers Meetup at $1.50, man who can afford that?

  24. Zak Show says:

    Sounds pretty good.

  25. RC Williams says:

Nothing like good times with the “booze and schmooze” as I like to call it…funny how some (that I still work for) don’t trust some of us to actually do something at conventions, I tend to do quite well closing business at them…last one I did 40k in new business in an 8 hour day.

    1. Booze and Schmooze, pretty funny. Maybe enough booze will get the big money makers to reveal their evil secrets.

  26. Raul says:

    Hi John,
The $1.50 is basically to cover the costs of the annual membership that charges the organizers. As you know, the meetup itself is free (you only pay for what you consume at the cafe) but the organizers do this entirely voluntarily and thus we request that participants contribute with part of the cost of the membership. That’s the reason for the $1.50 charge. Pretty minimal, don’t you think πŸ™‚

Look forward to see you there!

  27. Ian Fernando says:

see you at ASE and IZEAFEST – I want to go to blogworld but its just so close together with IZEAFEST…. let the evil duo beings its rampage – dont know if chow considers me evil enough πŸ™‚

    1. Collin LaHay says:

I will probably catch you both at IZEA. Little too late for me to get reservations for august 10th for AS. Maybe next year.

  28. I like the idea with the media pass.

  29. I wanted to go to IZEAFest cause it’s just about an hours drive from where I am, but I’m on vacation that week.

  30. Anna Sabino says:

    Great info, John, thanks!!!
Just got my tix to Vegas.
So does everyone stay in pretty much the same hotel? I noticed the ones featured were not on the strip, is it what you’d recommend?

  31. fas says:

Getting a media pass sounds lucrative. But they wont give it that easy.

  32. Chip says:

Hey John, if I would organize a bloggers’ meeting in Romania, would you help me promote it? Or at least talk about it?

It’s a shame we don’t have that many bloggers to earn big money, only small bloggers.
