Merry Christmas and Happy Hot Pot

On behalf of myself and the entire team here at John Chow dot Com, I like to wish you a very Merry Christmas! This year, instead of cooking the traditional Christmas turkey, I took the family to Big Bear Lake to do a Christmas hot pot.

For those who don’t know, hot pot, less commonly known as a steamboat, refers to several East Asian varieties of stew, consisting of a simmering metal pot of stock at the center of the dining table. While the hot pot is kept simmering, ingredients are placed into the pot and are cooked at the table. Typical hot pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, leaf vegetables, mushrooms, wontons, egg dumplings, and seafood. The cooked food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce. In many areas, hot pot meals are often eaten in the winter.

We’ll be at Big Bear Lake over the Christmas holiday. Sally is really looking forward to receiving her presents, and hitting the slopes. Once again, Merry Christmas and a safe holiday to you all.
