Interview with Gather Success

I did an audio interview last week with Alvin Phang of Gather Success. The 44 minute interview covers topics like how I got started, how I make money, where does my blog post ideas come from, recommend programs to earn money from blogging and other stuff. You can listen to the interview here or download the entire MP3 here.

Negative Press Rules

Shoemoney has posted a really nice article on why you should embrace negative press. I love negative press. There are so many I hate John Chow sites, I can’t even keep track of them. Nor do I brother to. The fact that someone would take the time and effort to create a site or post to flame me means I’m doing something right. Remember, if what you’re doing isn’t pissing somebody off, you’re doing it wrong.

How to Abuse Rollercoaster Tycoon 3

I need to load up the game and try this. It looks like way too much fun.

That video was hilarious! I have got to try that John. I never play this game before but it looks fun if you play it like that
Jonny Hardwick

Love the Rollercoaster slaughter and then the cars explode at the end. What makes rollercoaster cars explode? LOL!

HAHA I love that game!

Negative press rules! That means people are angered. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to obsession. Good, negative press is.

The foreshadowing is great in this video.

The affiliate summit and affiliate bash sound like a lot of fun. Should be a very informative get together with the opportunity to rub elbows and share ideas with others.

I'll have to listen to your interview with Interview with Gather Success. Sounds like some good information was talked about. Thanks for sharing!

I'll let you know when some negative press starts appearing for me.

I was watching the roller coaster and even though I knew what was going to happen to the people, for some reason I waited to see what would happen....Kind of like negative press; you just got to see what it's all about.

That video...was pretty funny, they joys of taking advantages of bugs in games ;)

Omg! That video was hilarious... and sick! I haven't played RCT in ages.

hahaa that was one awesome video!
Have fun at the free party, we need something like that in Toronto!

Hehe  John, I think you are very scary man, hehe
would not want to get into it with you. hehe

"x" military Soldier?

J.K.

Juan Cito

Roller Coaster Tycoon has just made it onto my wants list

Thanks for the great interview John... oh yeah and the games looks nice too..

Well, since you're giving me the green light to speak freely and all...

"John you're a sick twisted freak that takes glee in stealing small childrens lunch money in order to "party down" while taking pictures of yourself just to steal some more lunch money. Yeah, you'd better throw the occasional homeless kitchen article in here once in a while or i'm going to bust you up!"

Ahhh - that feels a little better. Though that video is disturbing I'll go create some new wonderful code on one of my sites in peace and harmony now. Buh Bye!

Negative publicity rocks - that "nasty" comment attracted more visits to my site than two dozen nice ones.

Still love ya John.

That rollercoaster was really scary........
All the best for your Affiliate Summit John. I'll probably join you next time........

John, you have way too much time on your hands. You may as well focus on actually blogging

-Mike

I am going to have to buy Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 ... it looks like fun!

Did you checkout that email I sent you? I gave you some potentially negative press on my site.

They do help you to advertise for free.

So many parties!. I'm definitely going to hit this one though.

Hey any A-list blogger wants to bash me...bring it on.
btw - love that video. Gotta get that game.

I have seen that Tycoon hack before. Haha, funny stuff.

I'll also be at AffiliateBash... it will own. As for publicity... bring it on! Negative or Positive... it does us all good!

rumor mill about some affiliate wearing a spider costume to attract kids to molest? not sure all negative publicity is good...

HAHA! That video was unmistakably one of the funniest videos I have seen this month. Thanks for posting it, I need something like this to lighten me up when I work my ass off.

How did you find it?

TalkPrice.net

I saw this go around Digg, might've got it from there.

John, feel free to blog about how much I suck.....weekly.

Shoe's post was great, but negative press should be addressed IMHO if it does start to harm, or you are in a field where it can damage your brand.

Think of Enron!

You have got to the point where you really dont need to care about nay sayers and good on you for it. If people have no interest in what you say then they should not bother reading. Some of us find it fascinating.

That isn't a good thing, Tom.

Relaxing - knowing that whatever bad things people say won't matter - is a bad work ethic.

Admittedly, there are always some people who complain about everything. However, there are also some genuine complaints that should be worked out rather than just ignoring because you think "I'm above all that".

Don't ever think you're bigger than your fans. Just because a few complaints you ignore won't do you any harm in the short-term doesn't mean it won't harm you in the long-term when the issues brought up in those complaints should have actually been worked out.

Readers with genuine complaints, I care about. However, if you've come across any of those John Chow sucks sites, they're not really complaining. They giving me free advertising. :)

I think "negative press" is much different from genuine complaints!

Premium open bar? I'm there!

me either... i will be too busy playing Rollercoaster Tycoon 3

Haha! Same here. I used to be addicted to that game.
