Email Still Down – RedHat Expires

My email has been down for the past few days. The only working emails I have right now is my hotmail and Gmail account. My server admin is looking into the problem but so far haven’t figure out what is wrong. He did tell me that two of the server’s Red Hat license has expired and needs to be renewed. However, I was unable to renew them at RedHat.com because the licenses were purchased through Dell, a RedHat reseller.

A call to RedHat got me the voice mail of Dell’s RedHat rep. I left my information with instructions to call me back. I’m now waiting for that call.

Damn Ping Spammers

We have the comment spammers, now we have ping spammers. I’ve been getting a lot of pingbacks from spam blogs with nothing but links on them. The links have nothing in common with each other. If the blog has content, the content is complete gibberish and makes no sense at all. The purpose of these blogs is to get pingback links from other blogs. They link the title of your posts and hope to show up in the blog comments as a pingback. Luckily, the spam filter is able to detect most ping spam.

Where Is The Bonanza?

So far, the Q4 Internet Bonanza is starting with a whimper instead of a bang. I have not noticed any great increases in CPC rates from Google. Normally advertisers increase their bids during Q4 because of the holiday shopping season. However, the rate increase this year is not as high as it was last year. I’m hoping this is just a ramp up and we’ll be seeing ad rates increase to the same level as last year.

Banks Have a Deposit Limit

I have to go to the bank today to try to re-deposit a check. I tried depositing this check last Friday at about 7PM (my bank is open till 8PM). However, the bank teller informed me that they can’t accept the check because it exceeded their deposit limit. After 5:30PPM – the official close of the bank business day – a bank can not deposit a check over a certain limit. The limit is different for every bank. For the TD Canada Trust, it’s any check over $25,000. The bank offered to hold the check and have it deposited today but I elected to just take the check back.

Many of my advertisers pay me via wire transfer but this company has so far refused to set that up for me. Not that I mind going to the bank to deposit big checks. Seeing the reaction on the teller’s face is always fun.
