How one lazy bum made $176,697.50

Well, after over 5 years, I thought it was finally time to update my home page. I’m sure most people were getting sick and tire of my picture splashed across this home page.

For the first time visitor, this site use to be call The Wired World Of John Chow. Now it’s call the John Chow dot Com The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul, because that is what I am – a Dot Com Mogul – and that is what I’ll be doing – rambling.

A little somethinig about me. My name is John Chow (as you no doubt notice from the domain name). I also go by the nick name “Moto”, named after the old video game Moto Racer. I live in Vancouver, Canada pretty much all my life. Before discovering the internet, I was a partner in a local Richmond printing company. After over a decade of running a print shop, I decided it was time for a change, and the internet was where I was going to stake my claim.

On April 1999, I started a little technology site call The TechZone. That site has risen to become one of the largest hardware tech sites on the net. Currently the site has over 10,000 pages and gets over 200,000 page views per day.

Besides taking care of the day to day business at The Tech Zone, I can be seen riding my bike around Vancouver, working out at Fitness World or climbing Grouse Mountain. I am best known for his famous quote “My World! My Rules!” and “Oh well.”

Hi there!

Thanks for sharing that pdf with us - I just bought my domain name last night and am working on getting my blog ready to show off (I'll come back later and say hi when I'm ready - so excited!).

Keep up the good work!

(Spell check on your entry here - First paragragh - 3rd line "sick and tire" > "sick and tired" )

Thanks!

Tweet you soon!

I would like to be part of history since this was your first post, so i thought i leave a mark here! Dinono.com

Dino’s last blog post: A-track - Official Kanye West Dj

This is my first time to come here. Just have a great time!

Nice, nice...changing it up now and then is always good. People get tired of seeing the same thing even if it's new content but the page seems old. Good to see a new landing page!

Michael Zhao’s last blog post: End of Second Week.

I really like to read your blog and follow your ideas and advice. Please keep up the good work and we all can become rich :)!

You know, you have a shitload of javascript errors on your site. As a developer I have script debugging enabled and each javascript error pops up a message box. On this page alone, I had to hold down the N key just to get passed all of the errors. I am not sure what percentage of your readership is developers... You may want to considering spending some time on the issue.

Hi John,
your blog is a huge inspiration for my work as an SEO!

Yours thankfully,
Miguel

Wow. Who knew that one of the most successful bloggers in the world was from my hometown of Vancouver. Not I, until today. Learning something new everyday.
I have no clue what I am doing, but I sure do hope I can find a way to replicate even a fraction of your success.

As a recent internet entrepreneur experimentee... I am very thankful for all the great info and posts here at John Chow.

Controversial or not, you have made your system and strategy work for yourself, and you cannot help but respect that!

Here is to many more years of dot com mogul ramblings!

Hello John. I wanted to take a moment to congratulate you on your success. I read your article in the Feb. 08 issue of Entrepreneur Magazine and it really inspired me to follow my passion to become an Entrepreneur/Philanthropist. I have never blogged before, infact this is the first time I have ever done it in all my 24 years! anyway, was wondering if you had any helpful tips and advice on how to start with basically nothing...(I'll be working at godaddy.com on may 5th! and seriously never want to go back to broke.) and do what you have done. Also want to start investing. Thank you for being an inspiration to us. God bless and much success!

Hello, guy! I am from China, and read about your articles in Chinese version. I think you are really great! There are a lot of articles here deserve me to read carefully. Hehe... Tks for your sharing and plz keep doing more. Good luck!

Ah, John's first post... hah!

I saw the article about you on the Province. Actually your article was on my google home page under computer news. I spend several hours on line everyday reading blogs and last year started one on my own. I applaud you and your success. I thought I had a lot to say till I started a blog. I joined some groups and even made comments to some. I wish I had your drive, ambition, and stick-to-itness. Thank you for bing there and being successful, gives the rest of us inspiring words to read, and something to try to achieve. I'll be reading your thoughts daily.
Pat

Sweet, a fellow Vancouverite. I'll see you around Aberdeen

Well, It took John chow around 3 years to get this much of success. as my idol... From few days.. after i finish my forums... i will start to make my blog. :)

This post were collected to my blog as the first post of your blog, which were highly recommented in my blog.

i haven't really gone halfway reading your blog. i run over 6 community sites which i juggle with med school. am only earning around $500 in a month and it's terrible, demanding work. i have a new community which has a medical theme. i'm now gonna read your blog and see if finally taking advantage of my education as opposed to running "gothic communities" would serve me well online. the site is at MEDLYF.COM but i just realized the irony of how much harder it is to convince fellow asians with a medical background to join it. it sucks. if it were another goth site of mine i would have jumpstarted it in no time with traffic. but right now i'm treading in a familiar territory, but which betrays my expectations.

i really hope i could upgrade my earnings from reading your blogs as my internet life is starting to jeopardize my real life as a 3rd medical student.

Wow John,

Congrats on your success!
I've been hearing about John Chow everywhere I go, so I had to come check it out for myself.
Man you are a true inspiration to up-and-coming bloggers like myself. Do keep it up!

I love your about page, hehe way to get a lot of reactions... the funniest are the people trying to put you down because they think you have a high opinion of yourself :).

In the end, what's wrong with having a high opinion of one self?
( I know you were joking, but still ). Thanx again for inspiring me to work harder on my blogs and good luck in all your future ventures!

John

Wow you've really come a long way since this time...the template has completely changed and your income has completely surged to unprecedented levels. Interesting to see how it got started though.

Hi John!
Great blog post. I think sincerity and honesty is why I read this blog everyday. The real thing that got me interested about you was the fact the you were contestent for Ultimate Fighting Championship. (Do you have any videos of this by the way?)

I'm new in blogging and I love this job. By just observing your site, I am indirectly learning a lot while wondering what's ahead of my effort in this new adventure. Congratulations for having such great income. It's nice to have that... but it's really for you... it's your destiny... On my part, I don't have my own website at this moment though I like really to have - I just have my sub-domain which is practically free for blogging. But you can be a model for this new adventure I choose. God bless!

hello Mr.John Chow..am much junior to you and you can call me a newbie in blogging stuff..what prompted me to start blogging for promoting my money making sites was the concept and the wide range of opportunities in blogging and then after a certain period creating a website..i really wish to make one but am still not sure about what? ..i think its normal for an aspiring newbie.. ..i read many of your posts and they were really informative and i thank you for continuing your writing on your site too with frequent updates as your site is serving as a guide for newbies like me..keep up the good work...!!i wish to achieve what i aim for which is nothing more than promoting engineers e-books and guidelines for aspiring MBA students..and for the funds to start that website and other required things i joined various money making programs and never thought they will make it that big..!! ..i truly believe internet is something worth of your free time....i'll always be looking upon your site to have some basics cleared about blogging and you may not know but many of my crew members are your regular visitors too  ...so once again..keep posting and rocking..!!
