My Mobile Workstation At North Shore Acura

written by John Chow on July 20, 2010

The Big Idea Mastermind

Mobile Workstation at North Shore Acura

I’m at North Shore Acura right now getting the B16 service done on the MDX. They told me it will take 2.5 hours so I decided to set up my mobile workstation in their customer lounge area, which has nice work tables and free cafe mocha! So far, I’ve made a video on how to do two really cool tricks with Aweber. In the above photo, you can see the video being uploaded to YouTube. Once that’s complete, I’ll finish the post and make it go live.

Being able to work in a remote location, and anywhere you want, is one of the biggest advantage of making money online. The amazing thing is, all this is still relatively new. Only a decade ago, all this wasn’t possible. North Shore Acura never had free WiFi back then and nobody knew what a mobile data plan was. These days, it’s party hard to be not connected no matter where you are.

The WiFi speed at North Shore Acura isn’t very fast (no doubt to keep people like me from camping here). My iMovie is saying it will take over two hours to upload the video. I’m gong to cancel it and upload it at home. Keep an eye out for it. It will go live later today. I think you’ll like it.

I’m going to test drive the new RDX now. Should be fun.

Salesfist July 21, 2010 at 9:21 am

Is it a race?

SEO: Top Commenter July 21, 2010 at 1:41 pm

I just noticed the post. I’m so far from first it’s ridiculous. Nice setup though – what’s the iPad for?

Nabeel | Create Your First Website July 20, 2010 at 11:29 pm

Yup that is a cool setup. Total mobility. And John is right, this couldn’t be imagined a decade ago,

Kindest,
Nabeel

I like the set up too. I wonder what the videos are about specifically. There are a lot of tutorials that Aweber itself has.

Momekh July 20, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Nothing beats an office in a bag, if that ;)

Online College Courses July 20, 2010 at 1:33 pm

I think that’s more than an office in a bag…I’m sure most people hear would be happy with that workstation period.

lol

Insurance Izzy July 21, 2010 at 10:00 am

Yeah he’s got a laptop, an iPad, a wireless mouse, and… a wired phone! Although I think that might belong to Acura. I can’t picture John carrying a wired phone around in his bag of tricks :)

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog August 7, 2010 at 6:28 am

Thats certainly belong to Acura

In this advance technology why a high tech guy like John will use wired phone.

FTB Bloggers July 20, 2010 at 12:29 pm

It’s super scary how quickly technology has advanced, but we should pat ourselves on the back because we adjust and learn how to levarage it just as quickly. If you don’t then you will surely get left behind in the compettions.

Have you seen the Chase Iphone Check cashing ap?
Take a picture of the front a back of your check and it’s deposited. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Scott Ford July 20, 2010 at 2:21 pm

I let my friend use my phone to make a deposit with the Chase app and it really works. I want my bank to get this already.

Earl July 20, 2010 at 12:29 pm

I wish the iPad could do all that by itself. For the most part it’s been almost a complete laptop replacement, but I would actually use the camera for videos if it had one. For now I suppose I’ll just uave to be content with making the keynotes and the structure while mobile and do all of my video recording stuff when I get back to the ol’ desktop.

If only they had a screenflow type app for iPad, I could at least do voiceovers. Looking forward to your a weber tips John!

Online College Courses July 20, 2010 at 1:33 pm

Yeah, in some ways, iPad is definitely limited…

Bidet July 20, 2010 at 2:54 pm

An Ipad with a laptop is the complete office deal. Its all you need but you are right, the Ipad by itself is pretty limited.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 25, 2010 at 3:15 am

Add iPhone as well with that and you will have complete office set up.

Scott Ford July 20, 2010 at 12:34 pm

Office on the GO!

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 25, 2010 at 1:55 am

And money all the way … :)

Online College Courses July 20, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Nice John…I’m actually interested in those videos on Aweber since I’m about to sign up in the next couple days!

PPC Ian July 20, 2010 at 6:19 pm

AWeber is awesome! I’m looking forward to the video too. I have been using AWeber for about a year but have a lot to learn!

Online College Courses July 21, 2010 at 7:45 am

are you pretty satisfied with Aweber?

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 29, 2010 at 9:49 am

So far they are delivering quite well.

d3so July 20, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Pretty cool setup you’ve got there. Too bad the internet sucks :P
I can’t wait too see what the aweber vid is about!

Harshad July 20, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Since how many years are you using that wireless mouse?

John Chow July 20, 2010 at 3:54 pm

Quite a few years. The VX Revolution is my favorite notebook mouse.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 25, 2010 at 1:56 am

Yes I think saw that mouse when you were for China trip as well.

TrafficColeman July 20, 2010 at 2:30 pm

Any way by having my handed mobile station with me..I can just set back an write more blog post and check stats….and Yea..Also Push..

Looking forward to that video John..

TrafficColeman “Signing Off”

Earl July 20, 2010 at 3:22 pm

great.. that’s all we need – a toilet profit contest – who can make the most money while on the can…

d3so July 21, 2010 at 10:25 am

I never used a laptop while on the John ;)
Gross, ever think about the fecal coliform?
I use my iphone though.

Bidet July 20, 2010 at 2:49 pm

Wow thats a great set up, all you need is a desk and you have your office. This is a great advantage to working online.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 25, 2010 at 1:58 am

Many people work online but very less or few got such kind of freedom.

Sonalia July 20, 2010 at 3:15 pm

Hi John,
Could you explain me the advantage to have an iPad with the MacBook ? I couldn’t understand why you need both ?

Thanks

John Chow July 20, 2010 at 3:59 pm

You use the iPad while the video is being process by the Macbook.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 21, 2010 at 5:38 am

In this way you can save the resource of Macbook.

Can’t wait to see that video.

John you added Shoeplex when you are going to add your workstation video ?

Online College Courses July 21, 2010 at 7:46 am

Makes sense…that way your total uptime on the net browsing is 100% :-)

Johan Cyprich July 20, 2010 at 3:40 pm

When will computer manufacturers go back to using matte monitors? Glossy ones look great in the showroom but they’re not very useful when you have to work with them.

Thomas Shea July 20, 2010 at 5:05 pm

John I think you should offer the first 100 a discount. Only fare John..

John Chow July 20, 2010 at 5:50 pm

A discount on what?

Email List Building July 21, 2010 at 1:18 am

I didn’t notice you were selling anything either.

Where is the AWeber video you produced, by itself on YouTube? Should we check your YouTube channel?

Online College Courses July 21, 2010 at 7:47 am

I think he wants your office set up John…LOL

d3so July 21, 2010 at 10:27 am

lol, he saw the pic and thought you were selling something, my guess.

PPC Ian July 20, 2010 at 6:15 pm

I’m a big fan of working on the go! It’s a great way to get a lot done. I find the change of environment motivating and often get more work done that way! Great post!

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 25, 2010 at 2:09 am

Yes if we got such benefit than we should capitalise it at fullest.

Dean Saliba July 21, 2010 at 4:02 am

How is the iPad working out for you John? I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one.

Alex July 21, 2010 at 4:12 am

Hmm, John… I probably missed something, but where have you got Acura? I remember, you had backpack only :)

John Chow July 21, 2010 at 9:39 am

That was John Reese, not me.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog August 7, 2010 at 6:39 am

So hows John Reese now a days ?

Any update ?

Linda July 21, 2010 at 5:18 am

Plus it increases productivity if you don’t have to be in a formal office setting. Even just grabbing a few minutes here and there can help to get the job done!

fas July 21, 2010 at 6:35 am

John which mouse is that? And is that a 13 macbook?

John Chow July 21, 2010 at 9:41 am

Logitech VX Revolution. Yes, it’s a 13″ Macbook Pro. I use a 15″ at home.

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog August 7, 2010 at 6:52 am

John we would love to see your home set up.

Add one video of that.

make money online July 21, 2010 at 9:42 am

Wow! I really love your workstation! hehe nice… I have a small laptop that I use for text work while I go around and my desktop computer which I love :D cool

have a great day…

Kel July 21, 2010 at 10:15 am

Using someones WiFi to post to your blog, aren’t you worried about having your passwords stolen?

I’m fully mobile and work anywhere and everywhere, but won’t make the posts to my account until I’m on a secure connection

Insurance Izzy July 21, 2010 at 10:19 am

It really is incredible how much the internet has grown in leaps and bounds. No longer do we use dial up connections at the nearest library or cyber cafe, but we can actually go out and be almost disappointed if someplace does not have a wireless internet connection. Pretty crazy if you ask me :)

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog August 7, 2010 at 6:55 am

Just wait for the coming days and we will have more advanced latest technology.

SnowBall July 21, 2010 at 5:58 pm

I love that anyone can work anywhere they want now a days. If you have a laptop, and a means to make money with the internet, then you’re set. You can hang out with your family, pets, friends, and still be working and making money. and in your case, you can run errands while still being productive. Gotta love the Internet!

Accounting Bookkeeping July 21, 2010 at 9:53 pm

Hahaha nice. John I just tweeted this post :p

Kimberly July 22, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Yes, the Internet is a great way to work! Even if you have an iPod touch, for example, you can work everywhere there is an internet signal.

Harshit Singhal July 22, 2010 at 7:23 pm

The same workstation that has helped you make thousands of dollars ? I wanna but it (laughs) !

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog August 7, 2010 at 6:57 am

Well workstation change as technology change.

Soon we will see different kind of workstation in coming years …

Lakhyajyoti July 23, 2010 at 7:22 am

Waiting for your awebar video.surely it’ll be great to watch.

sleeping bags July 25, 2010 at 9:02 pm

I always enjoy the pictures and posts when you’re blogging away from home. The flexibility you’ve got is fantastic, and inspiring!

ZK @ Web Marketing Blog July 25, 2010 at 2:08 am

Nice guess
