My Name Is John And I Am Canadian

written by John Chow on July 1st, 2009

Normally, I don’t remember most holidays because everyday is a holiday when you’re living the Dot Com Lifestyle. However, Canada Day is an exception. For one thing, the date is easy to remember – July 1 and it’s three days ahead of the U.S. Independence Day celebration. Like Independence Day, Canada Day is a celebration of our nation and what makes us great.

I received my Canadian citizenship when I was 12 years old and I’m proud to say I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Happy Canada Day everyone. My name is John and I am Canadian!

  9. Happy Canada Day to all of my neighbors to the north. I grew up in the Metro Detroit area and have enjoyed the hospitality of our neighbors to the north on many occasions. One point in history that is especially touching to me is when the Canadian Embassy assisted in getting Americans out of Iran. This is the sign of a true friend and a great people.

  12. Happy Canada Day, John! Canada is one of my favorite vacation destinations, and your Vancouver area has a lot of beautiful spots.

I’m also a big fan of Canadian music and listen to CBC Radio 3 whenever I can.

The NYTimes had an op-ed piece in which a number of Canadians living in the U.S. (authors, musicians, etc.) tell what they miss most about Canada.

I was born in China and even though I got Australian citizenship, I would never call myself an Australian. Like many people I know as well, we are okay with the title of Australian Chinese, but not Chinese Australian. Because regardless what passport we have, we, and our children still have the Chinese blood….
