Oh btw, if you look carefully, you could see the change in image quality between the original scanned text "A Reference for the Rest of Us!" (kind of blury) and the new generated text "By John Chow" (very sharp)

Yea you could use PHP to create the image.

I use the 2.0 GD Library in PHP to do various cool graphic things actually.

The funny thing is that I wouldn't put it past John Chow to write for the dummy series.
