MyAvatars for MyBlogLog Plugin Broken

written by John Chow on May 19, 2007

How to make $593 in less than one hour

I have turn off the MyAvatars for MyBlogLog plugin because all the images are broken. The WordPress Plugin shows MyBlogLog avatars in the comments and allows you to put a face to the commentators. However, MyBlogLog must have made a change in their system recently because the avatars no longer show up. Instead, you just get a broken image.

I assume the broken images are caused by MyBlogLog moving their user avatars to a new location. That’s really too bad because I really liked the MyAvatars plugin. Hopefully, the creator of the plugin will post an update and fix this problem. Then again, with the plugin disable, the blog may load faster because some commentators used really big avatars.

*Update – What do you know? The avatars are back!

Yeah, I noticed it first on my blog! But then I thought I had got something wrong. When I saw it here, I began to wonder.

Hopefully it will be fixed!

Without the images, you really notice all the SEO optimized handles a lot more!

Hey this one is really good. I used an animated gif for some time but the fun of feeling like in the 90′s is over

John Chow May 20, 2007 at 10:15 am

Well, the images are back so you don’t have to notice it as much.

Looks like John already uses that Plugin. Notice the smiley face at the bottom of the page.

Ankur May 19, 2007 at 11:07 pm

Sry, i meant a plugin for stats

Grace May 20, 2007 at 12:00 am

I saw that at a friend’s blog too. I really liked the avatar plugin.

I hope they sort it out soon, but if they don’t I guess it’s alright.

I was going to say something meaningful but then I didn’t.

You can use gravatars in the meantime. Gravatars used to be really popular, but has got overshadowed by mybloglog. But its still better than nothing.

My site uses gravatars. You can see it in action here.

Hi!

I received a message on my blog from Napolux, the MyAvatars creator and they are now working again on my blog. However, if a commentor does not have a mybloglog account, the avatar still comes up as an error.

SEO Blog May 20, 2007 at 1:42 am

Wow.. it really is loading a lot quicker. I liked the faces but I’m liking the speed even more. Maybe I just need to get a faster machine?

Yumcha Girl May 20, 2007 at 1:51 am

I know what you mean but I really like seeing the faces more (so I can put up with the slightly slower speed).

Anyway, hopefully John will turn his avatars back on soon as they should now be working.

InvestorBlogger May 20, 2007 at 1:54 am

It’s working now!

Check my blog to see

Taste of life May 20, 2007 at 4:13 am

I have noticed not working it and on other blogs too..

Yumcha Girl May 20, 2007 at 4:34 am

But it’s working now.

Swollen Pickles May 20, 2007 at 4:26 am

And here I was, just finished installing that plugging, wondering why I wasn’t seeing anything, then I read this!

Yumcha Girl May 20, 2007 at 4:35 am

You should be able to see the avatars now as the plugin is now working.

Dian May 20, 2007 at 5:00 am

Mybloglog now can use flickr for the avatar

Dy (www.dyphan.com) May 20, 2007 at 5:13 am

man, I wanted to see if my face worked.

John Chow May 20, 2007 at 5:58 am

It seems to be working now.

Elizabeth May 20, 2007 at 6:08 am

I was going nuts yesterday thinking I had done something to screw up my blog. The Comment Email Responder Plugin I use pulls in images from MyAvatar, and I couldn’t see them. They are back today though.

I FINALLY wrote my post encouraging my readers to sign up with Agloco, John! I know I’m pretty late to get started but better late than never, I hope :)

Dj Flush May 20, 2007 at 7:32 am

John you can safely turn the plugin on now. It was offline for some time but now its back

I can see MyBlogLog avatars on my blog now

Monetize Your Blog May 20, 2007 at 11:29 am

yes, have noticed that

Phishie Diaz May 20, 2007 at 7:46 am

Well darn, that’s too bad. The only reason I joined MyBlogLog was too get my avatar to show up on JohnChow.com. Hahah!

Rich Minx May 20, 2007 at 8:33 am

I like avatars for putting faces to the posts. Although I see a nipple avatar in John’s MyBlogLog feed to the right.

And without avatars, how are the spam sites with pretty blond girl avatars going to get traffic?

InvestorBlogger May 20, 2007 at 9:03 am

I’m looking forward to some additional features for the new versions.. Can’t wait.

Phishie Diaz May 20, 2007 at 9:40 am

Oh… it seems the avatar plugin is once again working.

Make Money With Funds May 20, 2007 at 10:09 am

I think MyBlogLog moved all the avatar picture onto Amazon S3 service to leverage the load…

Cheap Custom Content May 20, 2007 at 10:20 am

Yup, it’s up and running again; the wait wasn’t so bad.

James May 20, 2007 at 9:06 pm

Hey John, while your at it make a forum too. Im sure you could monetize that too! Just make it free , and throw up adsense or something.

sergi May 21, 2007 at 2:38 am

Wahlau.NET May 21, 2007 at 9:25 am
