  1. Shawn Knight says:

Can’t wait to see the finished product… the rough draft looked good aside from those few items I mentioned to you πŸ™‚

    1. Hey John, not sure if it’s intentional or not or whether it’s the finished version but you’ve got two Advertise buttons at the top in that image. Also there’s “About” and “About John Chow” which seems redundant as well.

I just realized I’m picking apart a small snippet of a design that has yet to be released. I should probably seek help.

      1. John Chow says:

That is a screen shot from the test server. When the theme is transferred over, it won’t have those dupes.

        1. Debo Hobo says:

Is that you in the driver’s seat? I like the look all shinny and new!

        2. Oh right on. Other than that, it looks sharp. Look forward to seeing the complete version. Are you sticking with the two columns or are you expanding to three? Extra room means extra adspace πŸ‘Ώ

        3. Matt Huggins says:

John is so evil that he needs to really promote his advertising opportunities. 😈 πŸ˜›

        4. I wonder whats on the right corner of the header..the one with black background and yellow..

          1. That’s the Search Engine Guide ad that you can see above the comments on this page. Looks like he might be going a bit wider.

          2. Nice work John, just curious is this the first overhaul. Should have created a contest “Pimp My Site” … that would have been an interesting one.

          3. Debo Hobo says:

“pimp my site” that’s wild. LOL

          4. Lance says:

Wow!, can’t wait to see it John.

          5. Jack Book says:

The COlor looks like problogger doesn’t it?

  2. Andrew G.R. says:

    Shhhhhhhhh.

    Do you hear that?

It’s all of the posers scrambling to crack the code of your new look.

Looks sweet. Good luck with it!

    1. That’s actually great! I’ll no longer be called a John Chow copycat, and I didn’t have to do anything!

      1. Geedos says:

Yeah but won’t you just be considered outdated?? πŸ˜†

I wonder how many people look to give their site a “refresh” in the coming weeks!

      2. Geedos says:

Yeah but won’t you just be “outdated” instead?

I wonder how long it is before other sites suddenly decide to have a “refresh” of their own! πŸ˜†

      3. I’m fine with Misty Look for now.

I actually plan to create a theme myself from scratch (or maybe based on Misty Look), but not for the next months.

        1. Geedos says:

Good luck with the creation of your own theme – it’s a lot of work so I can understand why you don’t want to do it just yet.

Sorry about the double up of my comment above – not quite sure what happened there – the first one didn’t show initially. 😑

          1. Debo Hobo says:

they should rename the misty look to john chow template. or just retire it, like a sports jersey.

          2. Haha, the John Chow template, that’d be hilarious.

  3. John, that looks awesome! I need to get a better looking header for my blog.

Change is good! Keep it up

    Travis

  4. HMTKSteve says:

The header looks good, what about the rest?

  5. wow… what is johncow.com going to do…????

    1. I do believe John Cow will have to adopt it as well! At least to be consisten in his copying efforts.

      1. John Chow says:

Too bad for the cow this is a custom theme and not available for download. 😈

        1. I guess we’ll see how dedicated the cow is to making it look just like your site. Custom jobs can be mimicked but it can take quite a bit of time depending on the target.

        2. Geedos says:

I wonder if this new theme was inspired because you got fed up with the copycats and wanted to move to something truly unique?

        3. I think he will get his way to imitate this theme 😈

        4. Debo Hobo says:

I’m sure the two of you will come up with some sort of deal to work together again 😈

          1. Jack Book says:

hey.. if you allow me to share it John πŸ™‚
just look what my site does 😈

        5. Tony says:

Of course, cow can pay some bucks and rip yours off. 😈

        6. It is a lot easier to copy a design than come up with your own…. However, John could lay the smack down legally speaking if someone copied his new layout πŸ™‚

  6. You know John, you could probably get a lot of links by releasing your theme for public use with the condition of retaining the footer link or something.

    1. Mubin says:

Yea, its good but alot of people remove the footer link. Trust me I know, I mean even John has removed it from his theme that he is currently using.

I bet John’s new theme is a 3 column one with place for side buttons so he can sell more ads.

      1. Brian says:

I think he said at one point he didn’t like the 3 column layout, but he could have had a change of heart (after he realized how much ad space he was losing).

      2. Yeah, a lot of people remove the footer links (I do if I do extensive customization) but a lot of people won’t as well. That’s a lot of links for not much extra work.

        1. Indeed i remove footer links too if i do extensive customization, even tho on the theme i am currently using i have massively customized it, but yet haven’t removed the footer links. And since i have intentions to re-code the layout i will leave the footer links intact, but once i will recode the whole theme i will definitively remove the sponsors link…but will leave the designers link.

Tho, John could put a footer protection hack (have one of such protections already) but anyone with basic PHP knowledge and that knows how to use his brain would be able to remove the protection.

          1. The protection thing just pisses me off and I’ll either not use the them or will crack it just on principle. It’s sort of insulting, IMO.

    2. McBilly says:

While that may be true. You are not sure about the quality of links plus the fact that a lot of people remove the links in the footer section.

Anyway, John! That is a great new design. Although I haven’t seen the rest, your header looks great! Shiny and new! Good luck with the new theme! πŸ™‚ 😎

  7. Shaun Carter says:

That’s a pretty sweet looking header John. I can’t wait to see it in action!

  8. Jay Wagers says:

Sweet! I can’t wait to see it. I agree with Travis Roberts; change can be good.

  9. Is it a complete custom template or standard WP template with custom header?

  10. mohdismail says:

can’t wait for the new look..and feel.. ;p

  11. Awesome, can’t wait to see it! I’ve been growing wearing of this theme for some time now…

  12. Simon says:

Looks great John. Hey John, I’m doing a little fund raising for a ‘John Chow Review’, care to set a good example and be the first one to pitch in? You can do it by using the little widget on my side bar.

    Cool

    Simon

    1. Geedos says:

      Good luck! πŸ˜€

As John’s an evil money making machine I don’t think he’s big on charity … but you never know.

      1. Debo Hobo says:

actually he does contribute to charity according to his about john chow page. but it is a recognized charity.

Simon your idea is very enterprising and original I hope you reach your goal. Just make sure you have everything in order before hand, I’d hate to read anything like AndrewTalks’s review again. 😈

        1. Simon says:

I will be prepared. I know he’ll pick on my blogger blog, but I’ll switch to WP beforehand. And just for the record, I am a part time volunteer for a recognized charity here in South Africa πŸ˜† .

          Simon

        2. There is charity, and then there is someone looking for a hand-out…

          Big difference there πŸ™‚

          1. Simon says:

Yeah, I’m just looking for a handout, ain’t gonna lie to anyone

            Simon

  13. Tim McSween says:

Nice clean look for the header. Looking forward to the new layout.

  14. Casey says:

I’m excited to see the new layout!

  15. Desty says:

YA! Now those of us who like the Misty theme won’t be accused of stealing your theme and be a wanna be 😯

  16. Roberta says:

Nice header! I’m sure the finished product looks great, too. Good luck with it, John, that’s awesome news. I know I’m a tad fickle when it comes to designs and I change a little more frequently than I’d like.

  17. Josh Buckley says:

Yay, i can’t wait to see the new design up. Byebye copycats!

  18. Stop with the Evil Teaser, just show us the layout. 😈

    1. Geedos says:

John’s got the evil teaser down to an art!

Rather than just doing something now, he talks about what he’s going to do before he actually does it. That way when the day arrives the hype is built to the max.

      Nice! 😈

      1. Debo Hobo says:

        Almost need a cig

  19. sandossu says:

It seems nice, can’t wait to see it running. I have started working at a theme for my blog too. I hope I’ll finish it soon.

  20. thien says:

the new theme looks aweseome.can’t wait to c it πŸ˜†

  21. Charles Lau says:

Looks really cool in the sneak preview!

  22. Ryan says:

    Dammit, this ruins my plan!

    1. Debo Hobo says:

He is always a billion steps ahead of the pack 😈

  23. Santosh P says:

    Waiting for your new theme…

BTW I dont think copycats is a proper tag.. That was a free theme… so people (including John Chow) used it…

    I use it tooo 😈

    1. Debo Hobo says:

true dat, i used it for a minute.

  24. John Bennett says:

The new design looks good from the header. Can’t wait to see the rest…

  25. looking good … looking good !!! Can’t Wait!

  26. Hawaii SEO says:

I hate it so far. I have a serious problem with websites that show piles of cash in the design. It makes you look like a beginner. People who earn piles of cash don’t need to wave it in your face. That’s a tactic used by people who would like you to believe they have more money than they do.

You make more than I do but you’re not “Rich”.

Give me a break. You’re better than that.

    1. DrMBW says:

Hey, he’s a “Dot COm Mogul” after all! πŸ˜‰

    2. Dang! That struck a nerve.

Thinking about it though, stacks of money in the header does come off a bit “rich jerkish” to me. Interesting point, Hawaii.

      1. John Chow says:

Six $100 bills is a stack of money???

        1. Haha, ok, good point. Keep in mind we haven’t seen the rest of the design. If you have that on the other side too that’s 1200 and that’s getting to be a stack πŸ˜‰

        2. KingJacob says:

When converted into zimbambweans it it πŸ˜‰

    3. Debo Hobo says:

Hmmm so you are saying he should be about it and not talk about it. Interesting theory.

    4. I think the new design is quite nice myself…

  27. Can’t Wait To See The New Design! πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

  28. derek says:

Since everyone that uses the Misty Look is labeled as a copycat of John, does the fact that John redesigned his site just after ProBlogger redesigned his make him a copycat of Darren? πŸ˜†

    1. J.R. says:

No Derek, it doesn’t. Nice brainwave though. πŸ˜†

  29. Mohamed says:

    Congrats John can’t wait.

  30. I’ve been lucky enough to see a full size screenshot of the new theme and I think most of you will be very, very impressed. I can’t wait until it goes live.

  31. aspkin says:

Crap John, I just finished copying your theme. Lol, I know it works so I’ll stick with it. I hope for the best with your new theme. Hopefully Google doesn’t slap the site too much. Good luck.

  32. Budget Babe says:

Ooh, I am seriously excited! My gosh – think I need a life! John, do you realise you bring colour to our lives?

  33. Dang, i think i will miss this layout. I got used to it, but by time will get used to the new layout as well.

Lets see how the new theme will look πŸ˜‰

  34. New site designs seem to be pretty hot these days. More than half of the sites I frequently visit had a makeover in the last six months πŸ˜›

    1. John Chow says:

That’s because we’re all getting ready for the fall bonanza!

      1. Joshua says:

What’s a fall bonanza Mr. Chow?

        1. Joshua says:

Hey what the F is this gravatar thing? Where’s my face? 😑

        2. KingJacob says:

Its where traffic increases because summer end or a bunch of falling bonanas

      2. Debo Hobo says:

I knew you would clear it up for all. You always have a good reason for everything you do. Very wise and evil 😈

    2. Chris Stark says:

That’s funny. Well, the person running a site is guaranteed to be its most frequent visitor, and it doesn’t take much to get sick of a site design.

Shaking things up every once in a while is a nice change of pace for the eyes πŸ™‚

      1. I’m going to be trying to custom in the next month or so but best laid plans and all…

  35. Me want to see new theme now!! 😈

John, how many total themes have you used on this blog?

  36. KingJacob says:

“All those John Chow dot Com copycats are going to have a cow!”

So is it true that mr John Cow is pregnant ❓

    1. Debo Hobo says:

That sould make him very mooooody. LOL

  37. This could be a nice change.

Im sure John gave the cow some advanced notice as they seem to get on well together and hoof each others backs.

Lets see what the cow does now

  38. Emma says:

    Very cool 😎

  39. Jason says:

Cool! I can’t wait to see new design. I just switch to Mistylook a few days ago. Anyway, let’s wait and see how all the cows react. 😈

  40. Wahlau.NET says:

it looks great….y is it always a sport car on your header?

    1. Debo Hobo says:

I think that is part og his branding which is pretty cool. See a lot of copycats on that as well.

  41. I like the header already! πŸ™‚

  42. Geedos says:

I’m looking forward to seeing the new motor on the front – on the teaser it looks great, and I like John’s taste in cars.

I wonder what the planned shelf life of the new design will be? Do you think it’s best to do a refresh once a year to keep things fresh?

Either way brand John Chow continues to build!

  43. dcr says:

Looks nice, but makes it look like he’s downsizing from two cars to one, like the blog isn’t doing so well or something.

Yes, I know he’s been well over $10k; I’m just talking appearance here.

And, assuming there is only one car in the final design too.

    1. Debo Hobo says:

But is the one car worth much more than the two put together. He can only drive one at time it may as well be the best.

I would like to see a car in the foreground, a plane mid scene and then a yacht off distance. Now that would be really impressive. They do have water in Cananda right?
      😈

  44. tim says:

look forward for tomorrow new JohnChow dot com theme launching 😈

    –blog for dream–

  45. Can’t wait to see it!

    Sly from Slyvisions.com

  46. Rebecca Wang says:

    Can’t wait to see it!

  47. Nate W. says:

Hmmm… I wonder what it looks like? πŸ˜‰

    1. *cough* Says the design. *cough* πŸ˜‰ Hehe…

  48. Mac-Sage.com says:

Looking forward to seeing your next evolutionary stage!

    Here comes JohnChow 2.0

    -The Sage

  49. Click Input says:

Looking forward to it, too many people using the same theme as you now anyway!

  50. Scot Smith says:

Looks amateurish to me, honestly. Sorry John.

  51. Alan says:

Cool! I don’t see why some people don’t like it. (or how they don’t like it; where do I go to see what it looks like, besides the screenshot lol)

  52. Vincent Chow says:

I don’t quite like the picture of money. Maybe I’m affected by all those scam sites that have pictures of money too.

  53. kanak says:

I hope the blog wont change from make money online to make theme online πŸ˜€ … just kidding … Call it john chow effect that a three line post get more than 100 comments .. Waiting eagerly for the release . And yeah !! too bad for the cow 😈 … let c what they have in store for tomorrow.

  54. Nuts & Milk says:

I guess thats the search engine banner on right side of the header. i suppose its a wide 3-column template!

  55. Reminds me I need to revamp my site too. A new theme is a good idea.

  56. starboykb says:

Great! Love to see your new theme!

  57. Matthew says:

Looks great! I just saw it come online now πŸ™‚

  58. Looks good, I think some tweaking is still needed. The design scrolls horizontally at 1024×768 and it really shouldn’t.

  59. Click Input says:

Loads more slowly… although I am thankful I have a 22″ monitor, seeing this on low resolution wouldn’t be nice

  60. joshua says:

you new theme is very cool

  61. inssan says:

Very nice site look, but it is rather commercial.

  62. ben says:

messy with very big header and the big graphic πŸ™‚ but i think john like it..:) be it
