Can’t wait to see the finished product… the rough draft looked good aside from those few items I mentioned to you
Hey John, not sure if it’s intentional or not or whether it’s the finished version but you’ve got two Advertise buttons at the top in that image. Also there’s “About” and “About John Chow” which seems redundant as well.
I just realized I’m picking apart a small snippet of a design that has yet to be released. I should probably seek help.
That is a screen shot from the test server. When the theme is transferred over, it won’t have those dupes.
Is that you in the driver’s seat? I like the look all shinny and new!
Oh right on. Other than that, it looks sharp. Look forward to seeing the complete version. Are you sticking with the two columns or are you expanding to three? Extra room means extra adspace
John is so evil that he needs to really promote his advertising opportunities.

I wonder whats on the right corner of the header..the one with black background and yellow..
That’s the Search Engine Guide ad that you can see above the comments on this page. Looks like he might be going a bit wider.
Nice work John, just curious is this the first overhaul. Should have created a contest “Pimp My Site” … that would have been an interesting one.
“pimp my site” that’s wild. LOL
Wow!, can’t wait to see it John.
The COlor looks like problogger doesn’t it?
Shhhhhhhhh.
Do you hear that?
It’s all of the posers scrambling to crack the code of your new look.
Looks sweet. Good luck with it!
That’s actually great! I’ll no longer be called a John Chow copycat, and I didn’t have to do anything!
Yeah but won’t you just be considered outdated??
I wonder how many people look to give their site a “refresh” in the coming weeks!
Yeah but won’t you just be “outdated” instead?
I wonder how long it is before other sites suddenly decide to have a “refresh” of their own!
I’m fine with Misty Look for now.
I actually plan to create a theme myself from scratch (or maybe based on Misty Look), but not for the next months.
Good luck with the creation of your own theme - it’s a lot of work so I can understand why you don’t want to do it just yet.
Sorry about the double up of my comment above - not quite sure what happened there - the first one didn’t show initially.
they should rename the misty look to john chow template. or just retire it, like a sports jersey.
Haha, the John Chow template, that’d be hilarious.
John, that looks awesome! I need to get a better looking header for my blog.
Change is good! Keep it up
Travis
The header looks good, what about the rest?
wow… what is johncow.com going to do…????
I do believe John Cow will have to adopt it as well! At least to be consisten in his copying efforts.
Too bad for the cow this is a custom theme and not available for download.
I guess we’ll see how dedicated the cow is to making it look just like your site. Custom jobs can be mimicked but it can take quite a bit of time depending on the target.
I wonder if this new theme was inspired because you got fed up with the copycats and wanted to move to something truly unique?
I think he will get his way to imitate this theme
I’m sure the two of you will come up with some sort of deal to work together again
hey.. if you allow me to share it John

just look what my site does
Of course, cow can pay some bucks and rip yours off.
It is a lot easier to copy a design than come up with your own…. However, John could lay the smack down legally speaking if someone copied his new layout
You know John, you could probably get a lot of links by releasing your theme for public use with the condition of retaining the footer link or something.
Yea, its good but alot of people remove the footer link. Trust me I know, I mean even John has removed it from his theme that he is currently using.
I bet John’s new theme is a 3 column one with place for side buttons so he can sell more ads.
I think he said at one point he didn’t like the 3 column layout, but he could have had a change of heart (after he realized how much ad space he was losing).
Yeah, a lot of people remove the footer links (I do if I do extensive customization) but a lot of people won’t as well. That’s a lot of links for not much extra work.
Indeed i remove footer links too if i do extensive customization, even tho on the theme i am currently using i have massively customized it, but yet haven’t removed the footer links. And since i have intentions to re-code the layout i will leave the footer links intact, but once i will recode the whole theme i will definitively remove the sponsors link…but will leave the designers link.
Tho, John could put a footer protection hack (have one of such protections already) but anyone with basic PHP knowledge and that knows how to use his brain would be able to remove the protection.
The protection thing just pisses me off and I’ll either not use the them or will crack it just on principle. It’s sort of insulting, IMO.
While that may be true. You are not sure about the quality of links plus the fact that a lot of people remove the links in the footer section.
Anyway, John! That is a great new design. Although I haven’t seen the rest, your header looks great! Shiny and new! Good luck with the new theme!

That’s a pretty sweet looking header John. I can’t wait to see it in action!
Sweet! I can’t wait to see it. I agree with Travis Roberts; change can be good.
Is it a complete custom template or standard WP template with custom header?
can’t wait for the new look..and feel.. ;p
Awesome, can’t wait to see it! I’ve been growing wearing of this theme for some time now…
Looks great John. Hey John, I’m doing a little fund raising for a ‘John Chow Review’, care to set a good example and be the first one to pitch in?
You can do it by using the little widget on my side bar.
Cool
Simon
Good luck!
As John’s an evil money making machine I don’t think he’s big on charity … but you never know.
actually he does contribute to charity according to his about john chow page. but it is a recognized charity.
Simon your idea is very enterprising and original I hope you reach your goal. Just make sure you have everything in order before hand, I’d hate to read anything like AndrewTalks’s review again.
I will be prepared. I know he’ll pick on my blogger blog, but I’ll switch to WP beforehand. And just for the record, I am a part time volunteer for a recognized charity here in South Africa
.
Simon
There is charity, and then there is someone looking for a hand-out…
Big difference there
Yeah, I’m just looking for a handout, ain’t gonna lie to anyone
Simon
Nice clean look for the header. Looking forward to the new layout.
I’m excited to see the new layout!
YA! Now those of us who like the Misty theme won’t be accused of stealing your theme and be a wanna be
Nice header! I’m sure the finished product looks great, too. Good luck with it, John, that’s awesome news. I know I’m a tad fickle when it comes to designs and I change a little more frequently than I’d like.
Yay, i can’t wait to see the new design up. Byebye copycats!
Stop with the Evil Teaser, just show us the layout.
John’s got the evil teaser down to an art!
Rather than just doing something now, he talks about what he’s going to do before he actually does it. That way when the day arrives the hype is built to the max.
Nice!
