Only Billionaires Need Apply

written by John Chow on January 19th, 2007

What do you get when spend $140 million on a house? One very big house! This video takes you on a tour of Updown Court, the most expensive house in the world currently for sale. You have to love a house with an En-suite swimming pool!

BTW - The $140 million just gets you the house. You’ll have to come up with about $2 million each year to maintain it. Like the title says, only billionaires need apply. Enjoy the video.

I agree, it’s probably a bit too big for some small cities. But I love the pools!

Actually, on a side note, I was reading just yesterday about how 2007 will be the year that online video takes over the real estate game on the net. Until now its been largely overlooked as a common means of online promotion apparently. Fools!

Great house, I’d love to be able to afford to live in it. Though I think I’d go more urban. I like the idea of a nice moderately tall building and the whole top floor of it (maybe the one beneath too) all to my own. Can’t forget the four reserved extra large parking spots for me (each on a turntable). As for the four cars parked in there… I’ll save that story for another day :)

When it comes to large houses, I personally would go old fashion with intricate detail in the small est parts of the house like those old mansion/castles have.

to be honest, even if i had a billion + $ I would not buy it. Also, is it updown? or uptown?

Hi John, which plugin did you use to embed the video - I couldn’t get it to work on my blog!

He’s not, I’ll outbid him ;)

Well John will need a couple hundred more blogs each making $3000 a month to buy that.

Outbidding is great, but its coming up with the cash that’s going to be the tricky part :)

Dazzling, but too spacious. I prefer comfort and cosiness. Slap a jacuzzi in my suite and I’m set. If I had the means to own this beauty, I’d rent her out.

As crazy as it might sound, that type of house doesn’t appeal to me even if I had that kind of money. Maybe I feel that way just because I don’t have that kind of money, but I honestly prefer the more humble, low-key type things.

That place is crazy. When I was a teenager I was working with a guy who did video. We went to NJ to film an ad for a new invention and the producer used his home for the setting - it was crazy. Nowehere near this size, but still very big. There was an indoor heated pool with glass windows looking in on it. There was a basketball court (probably half-court), a dance floor, a school room, and a mini-movie theater. The living room was humongous with a ceiling higher than many churches’. There was a full bar right next to the living room. It was amazing.

The best thing about living in a house like that is what would be in the garage i.e. Ferrari Enzo and Mclaren F1 at a minimum! And a Carrera GT.

And a Konigsegg CCX and a Caparo T1… Don’t forget the Veyron! Race cars too! :)

I am too much of a Dave Ramsey fan to spend that much money on a house I would have to be the richest person in the world and then I probably wouldn’t do it anyway.

A $2M upkeep cost on a $140M home is not above average. It’s inline with spending $2K a year keeping up a $140K home.

I think you’ll need it indeed, especially the first days. Could be fun though ‘Hm, I don’t think I’ve ever used this bath before’.

It doesn’t seem worth the price. Having a lot of space is nice, but it’s also a lot of waste. Then again, living in any sort of excess — like dining at Lumiere — is “wasteful” in the strictest sense.

Man this is so tacky!! It has no stile, it looks like one big McMansion with lots of marble, gold, swimming pools and big lack of soul!

This is really made for nouvelle rich Arab wankers!

There are lots of properties that have soul and can get you money back (whot the hell needs 24-25 apartments?? it’s cheaper to rent entire hotel)

Oh and by the way who the hell wants to spend 140MM$US in UK, maybe only Mohamed Al Fayed and his money grabbing co.

Now this are some cool MM properties:

http://www.happynews.com/news/1102007/dracula-castle-sale-78m.htm

with 400,000 visitors p.a. and rising you can really make that 70MM$US back, or add another 70MM$US and make super luxurious hotel out of it!

Got 140MM$US, why not live on a megayacht:

http://henning.homelinux.org/henning/pelorus/

Now for that wanking above i wouldn’t give a dime, even if i got into BB’s!

To me the house looks a little too wasteful for its price - Yes luxury is good but this is a little overboard I think !
