Today’s Performance Marketing Expo kicked off with a keynote by Dan Siroker. He’s the former director of analytics for the the Obama presidential campaign. However, the highlight session was the Super Affiliate Experts panel with Zac Johnson, Eddie Alberty, Matthew Cheng and moderator Greg Byrnes.

The Super Affiliate Experts panel offers tips and tricks from the country’s top earning super affiliates. They gave some really good tips that anyone can use today to help them make more money online. Some of the takeaways I got from the session include:

  • Communication with affiliate managers and optimization are best practice keys.
  • Target campaigns with your readers in mind.
  • Targeting is important but so is timing.
  • Always be testing. Zac will use as many as 20 landing pages for one campaign in order to find the highest converting page.
  • Understand your customer and what his needs are
  • Never under estimate the power of an incentive offer (MarketAmerica Cashback)
  • If your offers are converting well, ask for a higher commission or revenue share.
  • The best way to build a relationship with an affiliate network is face to face at a conference and instant messenger with the affiliate manager.
  • Working with an affiliate network is better than working directly with an advertiser
  • Affiliate networks should send gifts to the affiliates they’re trying to get into their network. Email blast offering “highest payout” and “best network” rarely get any action.
  • Q4 is the best time of the year to be an affiliate marketer (think holiday sales).
  • Thanksgiving weekend remains key to kick off the holiday shopping season (Black Friday).

    1. These are certainly great points … few of them I use and few are new ones.

      1. Yes but small time bloggers like me who can’t afford to travel to other states going to those events is limited. But I know the best way to market is word of mouth…that way you save yourself a lot of money from marketing.

        1. I see what you mean, it’s not the real big dollar bribes so it’s probably OK. Not like securing a government contract for helicopters or jets.

          1. I think it should work just fine. Like we bribing our readers with some free e-books. But well I don’t quite understand how affiliates network do the bribing. Maybe it is just some incentives if we reach some sales volume. It is a really interesting way to get attention.

    Great stuff, thanks for the recap John. These are some very practical tips. I too agree in testing many different landing pages. 20 at one time, that is quite a few. I would wonder about arriving at statistical significance with that many pages at one time.

    1. I was wondering @Ian, are you doing lots of landing page for your product too? if yes how many do you usually do? I know it is time consuming but maybe there is some tips you can give..

        Find the top keywords for the product or service. Make separate lending page for each keyword. Do link building for each page and you will see the difference.

  5. Yes, I would be interested in seeing some video as well. To be honest, I don’t think I would be able to take notes fast enough to keep up with everything that is being taught. Time to bring in a digital recorder or bring in someone to transcribe it for me.
