Picking Up The New Car
Today was an exciting day. Not only did I made it into the July issue of BC Business magazine but I got to pick up my new family car. Our old Acura TL was coming up on four years and that’s about the longest I keep a car. We searched high and low for a replacement to the trusted family mover but in end, we got another Acura TL. One of the deciding factor that kept me as an Acura customer was the $1,500 coupon Acura sent me.
I purchased the car yesterday. The entire sales process took about ten minutes. I don’t believe in spending hours fighting back and forth with the sale person (at least not unless I feel like it). Sarah and I went into Richmond Acura, told the salesman we wanted the TL, told him the price we were willing to pay and said, “We want it now!” Richmond Acura did everything we wanted except for giving the car to us on the spot. They needed some time to prepare the car for delivery.
Taking Delivery

Marco Wu of Richmond Acura fills out the final paper work. Sally is more interested in the red MDX. I considered getting the new MDX but I still like the ride of a car more than an SUV.

The new TL at home in the garage next to the RSX. All my previous Acuras have been black but I wanted a white one this time around. A white car isn’t very evil but I don’t need an evil family car.
Now we just have to sell the old TL. Anyone want to buy it?

Grats on the new car!
Although I think the MDX would have given you more room to grow with your family. But then again, you buy a new car every 4 years so whatever
congrats on getting a new car! i can only afford second-hand ones.
Same here.
well that’s whole lot better than no car
True. I don’t even have a car because I can’t afford insurance.
Awww. Hope you get it soon!
I’m planning to get a the new toyota camry….It’s driving me crazy!!!
Hey, second hand cars will get you there just as well as new ones. Well, as long as they’re not about to fall apart like mine is!
I can’t really afford an new Acura, but would luv to pick up a second hand one, so how much do you quote?
Actually, I have much respect for people who own second-hand cars yet manage to keep them in tiptop shape. I, myself, would love a beat-up yellow Chevy Camaro with a “bee-otch” air freshener hanging on the rear view mirror.
Nice new car John. I’m car searching myself as well. I hate looking for the right car, I can never decide what I want.
No Mercedes clk63 Black Series? Lol, just kidding, congratulations on the car
that’d be nice, though it wouldn’t be fit for john’s family
But it would look nice. That’s all that matters
.
Well, it definitely suit his family…John, wife and child…3 of themmmm no space problem
Nice new car John! White isn’t that bad of a color. Both of those cars are pretty nice actually.
yup…both car looks nice…like the rsx
loyal acura fan?
Sweet ride, but even sweeter negotiating skills!
I agree, the going back and forth is a royal pain and I think I might have to try your method next time I’m looking for a new ride.
Yeah the haggling part is why I hate buying a car. Best thing to do is make your offer and make sure they have your contact info, so if they don’t bite at the dealership – walk away. I did that and had the dealer call back two days later and want to take my original offer.
Life would be a big pain if we negotiated every purchase we made… lol.
Haha, imagine if we had to haggle every time we went to McDonalds or the grocery store. “What? 50 cents for a bell pepper?! I’ll give ya 34!”
lol, in some countries people still do negotiate when buying practically anything.
The longest time I had to spend in a car dealership was 4 painful hours — with my mom. She couldn’t decide on a car, and when she did she’d change her mind. Never go car-shopping with your mother unless she’s buying you a car, too.
Congratulations on the car John
Yes, this is a great car. I do like white cars also.
Very nice car. Why you gonna sell the old TL? Just keep those two nice cars!
HAHA, JOHN Put this on a contest..
give away everything
giving away a car would def get some publicity. Just look at oprah.
john’s generous, but not that much
How can you be so sure
?
Haha we could dream, but John’s no Oprah yet that’s for sure.
I agree with Santosh P; another contest for your old beater… Oh, and mail me my 24″ monitor already…
Hahaha, you know that’s mine, right?
Dont fight… Its only mine..
How I wish I stay in your neighbourhood… my country doesn’t have this MODEL at all!!! *sigh*
Isn’t the car nice and sexy?
Yep, sell your TL on auction..
hmmm… Whatya spose it would bring on eBay? I can see the title now… “Make Money Online Buy John Chow’s Acura TL” Maybe a subtitle with the real details…
Haha, wonder how much it’d go for o.o.
Very nice car, wanna hand over the keys? haha thatd be crazzzy if you did a contest for a car you’d be getting like 10x the amount of buzz you already get!
But think about how much he’ll spend for shipping if someone from out of the country won. Yeowza.
That will be me! Try shipping to Singapore..
Haha if he ever gives that car away, I earnestly hope you win, man.
Does it have the leather seats that fat lazy Canadians prefer?
Yep, Aurca TL come standard with leather. You can’t get cloth even if you want it.
What’s the top speed?
John Nice new car, nice rsx
thought you want to sell your rsx to lols
congrates with the new car
john
John… where’s the mercedes???
The TL is a great car though, can’t go wrong with an Acura.
You should obviously give the car away to a random commentator on this post…..
Ah, someone already posted that, touche.
My brother had a TL, I liked it till he decided to upgrade to an M3.
Ya Andrew
John will you do that?
Scot, heheh i also wonder where his mercedes haha or may be lamborghini to replace his rsx
John, how much This TL cost you?
Holy multiple commenting bastards!
wahaha i just want to ask john how much the car price lols forgot to ask it from the same comment
how i wish i can edit the comment whahahahaha
)
john, the pic of you holding your baby is real cute!
to the best blogger daddy!
nice family new car
What’s the mileage?
I’m pretty sure you could sell it on this blog!
Kenneth
Maybe mark a little “JohnChow.com” on the side for publicity?
I agree, your other car has The tech zone on it so why not have the new car with johnchow?
I have to say John Chow is one awesome guy. I posted a similar request to some high profile bloggers to check out my blog (dosh dosh, problogger, and a few others)and comment with any advice, or criticism (it’s what they blog about, why not?).
In the end, John Chow was the only blogger who didn’t delete my comment. If the other high profile bloggers don’t like the idea of helping someone in an ambitious project that is right up their alley… why blog on that topic?
Hopefully I’ll get to hear from you via a blog comment at my page Mr. Chow.
Until then… Keep giving the rest of us reason to dream.
365 Days… Can I Do It?
http://onemansgoal.blogspot.com
It looks fantastic!
So, why did you not trade the old car in when you bought the new one?
The old TL is from the US. We’re selling it back in the US.
Yep, this time less evil
. Grats!
How much did Acura pay you to make this post? lol, just kidding. I wonder if they knew who you are. You should of walked in there and been like “I am the blogger that was once (hopefully again) ranked #1 for the search term ‘make money online’ and I want a car… for cheap. I’ll make a post about Acura too.”.
Great choice!
Did they recognize you?
The TL is pretty sweet, why not a Type-S John? Since you are sticking with a TL, why not getting a more top of the line one?
-Swapw
The Type S is nice but it was more than we need.
That comment alone explains why John is as well off and successful as he is.
Yes, he could have spent more for the nicer/bigger car but he knew it would be a waste of money to do so. All those little savings throughout the day make the difference over the course of your life.
Waw man! make a contest with the car
Yeah! A Type-S would also be good.
I’ll buy the themore evil
black one for 50p ÂŁ sterling.
Black is smooth and elegant!
i would like to buy the car with my 1 year assist to you,JOHN. =D
hi
congrats…
the black one in that picture looks beautiful
thats pretty sweet, but not better than my noisy, old toyota camry, maybe i should post that on my site http://www.clickfornick.com
Who cares about the car, I want to see more baby pics!
John is a proud dad.
Who isn’t? (except people who aren’t parents or have kids in Jail)
Here in Japan they say “Oyabaka” which is like crazy parent love, or obsessive parental love. My students say this about me all the time. I’m proud of it.
Nice ride, I’d get one too if I needed it
Check out the Audi R8 in my blog!
It’s awesome.
Nice car, I could use a new one myself!
Nice car John. You should sell your old TL to the douche bag kid that was looking for the Audi TT handout. Sell it to him for 125% over blue book and teach him how to haggle.
Congrats!!!!
I was just there at Richmond Acura yesterday!
And congratulations. White isn’t very evil.
Very clean, wholesome, and family-oriented indeed.
Hahaha, too bad you didn’t see him. That would’ve been crazy … and kind of awkward.
I know… It’s funny we haven’t actually met yet, considering Vancouver is an easy place to run into people.
White is angelical!
Hey! Sally has great taste in cars! hehe Congrats on the new car! That is our goal after the wedding!
why didn’t you tell me you had an RSX … i’m a fellow Acura Guy … I have a 01 Type-R … Wanna Race?
LOL
Darin
I posted pics of the RSB back in Dec! http://www.johnchow.com/some-pics-of-my-ride/
John
Any baby pics?
oOoOOhh! Nice ride! I miss the acura integras.. but the TL’s are awesome too. Congrats! It’s been a good week for you, eh? *=)
wow! congrats for your new car!
Where’s the Pagani Zonda?
I smell a John Chow gives away an Acura contest
I suspect he has an extra acura to be given away in the next post!
Nice work on sticking with an Acura. After driving a 98 GS-R, and 98 1.6EL I am hooked. Time to lower that TL!!
wow, and all that from blogging??? hehe nice choise!
I know! I was just thinking today how John Chow makes a lot of money and how people working 9-5 jobs don’t even make as much as him. It’s crazyyyyy.
For that price range, I would have also considered the 300C, faster (390 torque vs 233), bigger (in every way), better looking (imo) and with Mercedez technology. The 300c’s fuel economy is slightly higher but with it ability to use regular gas and the Multiple Displacement System should narrow that gap.
The 300C is a very nice car but the interior looks cheap and uses way too much plastic. Love that motor however.
Very nice cars, but I’m with Sally, the red one looks fun!
And red’s supposed to be a lucky color, too, right?
That is a nice car. Enjpoy it!
I see a nice opportunity to start another blog contest ‘win cars with John Chow dot Com’
I smell another income stream in the form of an Acura sponsership.
I just ordered a Infinity G37 myself so cheers to the new ride.
Great lookin ride! Congrats on the new purchase..
I will never have the chance to buy that cars.
Maybe you could put your old car to some auction. Since you are famous you could even make money on it.
Now you just need to wack a spoiler on there and off you go. The exhausts look better on the newer ones too IMHO.
Picked a great color, white like Milk!
In some countries like Asutralia you get discount on Insurance for the white colour because it is considered as safer.
Those are two great looking cars! Congrats on the new purchase, even if Sally would have preferred the MDX.
Next time you buy a car, maybe you should go for a European one and add a family vacation into the mix–many European manufacturers offer luxurious vacations that center around the purchase of a car and there are substantial savings as well. Check out http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/103120/the-luxury-driving-vacation.

One Man, in the link that you have posted, my website is mentioned
Me and my partner own the http://www.edBMW.com website and I was asked to give an interview for Wall Street Journal, that’s where Yahoo got their story. Anyway, it was just interesting seeing you post that link.
