Professional Internet Marketing with Jason Parker

Internet marketing is like any other industry. You want to be armed with the right information and then you can translate this information into a profitable business of some kind. It helps when you can rely on an expert or a guru to guide you on your journey and Jason Parker of ProIMer feels that he can take on that role in your life.

Over the course of this review, we’ll take a look at Jason’s blog, the information it contains, the areas where it may be in need of some improvement.

ProIMer: What’s in a Name?

When I received the review request in my inbox, I was immediately confused by the URL. I was trying to figure out what it meant to be a proimer, since I had never encountered the term before. After visiting this Internet marketing blog and having a look at the logo, it dawned on me that we weren’t talking about a proimer; we were talking about a pro IM-er, as in a professional Internet marketer.

That certainly makes more sense, but it still makes for a rather obscure domain. They say that when you are choosing a domain for your website that you should be careful about how those letters in that particular order may be misconstrued or confused.

Where Are the Credentials?

Unless you are already well known in the industry, like Shoemoney or Zac Johnson, it is important to tell us why we should respect you as an expert in your field. Jason Parker has an About Page on his blog, but it really says nothing about him. What’s his background? What has he accomplished? Why should I care what he has to say?

The lack of information, in this respect, is further exacerbated by the very casual approach that Jason takes with image editing. Below the virtually non-existent bio are a series of testimonials and thank you emails that Jason has received. The personal information is blocked with MS Paint-level red splashes. A simple “blur” filter in PhotoShop would have looked much more professional.

Developing a Brand and a Sense of Personal Style

If you bury a gold brick at the bottom of a compost heap, most people are going to walk past it without knowing about the valuable contents hidden within. In like manner, a blog with terrific content will easily go unnoticed if it does not have a distinct style. Branding is important.

Professional Internet Marketing with Jason Parker

With ProIMer.com, Jason has taken a theme that is magazine-like in layout, but it completely lacks in any sort of personality. It doesn’t need to be particularly flashy, but the chosen template looks like a slightly modified version of MistyLook. Remember that old theme?

Further still, it’s difficult to see ProIMer as a blog without a standard reverse chronological blog layout. With John Chow dot Com, the main site is magazine-like, but you still get easy access to the regular blog if you prefer. ProIMer should provide the same. Aside from the highlighted posts on the front page, there’s no obvious way to browse the archives.

But Content is King, So…

Aside from the fact that the bland layout continues into the individual posts themselves, what does ProIMer have to offer in terms of quality information?

Professional Internet Marketing with Jason Parker

Jason Parker does offer a few interesting blog posts that might be worth reading. He discusses everything from affiliate programs to the importance of guts. You can also read about going pro and using black hat and white hat tactics. Many of the posts are quite lengthy, presenting big blocks of text. In this way, some posts can be difficult to absorb. A few images or lists could break it up into more digestible chunks.

The Potential to Go Pro

Having read through some of the posts written by Jason Parker, I can say that ProIMer.com definitely has some information for people interested in Internet marketing. At the same time, some of this content isn’t very original and the remarkably bland site layout does little to motivate me to stick around.

If Jason invests in a better site design, reworks the blog post style into something more easily approachable, and gives us a better reason to believe he is indeed a guru in the field, he has the potential of taking this blog from the minors to the majors in no time. And you know what they say about potential. Mr. Parker just needs to reach out and see what he can do.

I think there are a lot of such sites that look like wanna-give-certain-impression instead of being one. I would strongly tell anyone that these are two different things & can be noticed. With John, he could put his finger on it precisely. Though others may not be able to do so, they can sense the difference & cost you lot.
All the best to proIMer.com

I'm still new in Internet Marketing but I strongly believe it's a good way of making money. I don't know if it's better to focus in blog comments or in bookmarks, I guess it depends on the type of website you want to promote, right?

"If you bury a gold brick at the bottom of a compost heap,..." love this anthology ;-) SY

Wow...that's why I love this site. No punches held back. Serious right to the point information

This is a good review. You packed a punch with your review. I went through the comments and I am really surprised with the post made by Jason Parker. He was genuine and concerned. He wanted to follow your ideas means he has his ears in place.
Any way it is a good review and Jason Parker must adhere to your guidelines to become successful

That sure was an honest, no punches pulled review and evaluation of the mans work. I agree with you on the obscurity of the URL for starters, I was under the impression that he had an Instant Messaging angle to his offering.

It's too bad I couldn't have seen the before. I guess you worked on your site because it looks pretty good.

This is a nice review..

I agree aesthetics and contents are both important for a successful blog, however I always gauge the attitude of the blog owner based on the quality of the contents he give away to the readers of the site.

Some bloggers just babble away, most are even non-sense in their posts. Yeah some have beautiful bells and whistles but it still boils down to one thing. Are you contributing something valuable to the community you serve. Are you giving VALUE?

The site gives value, things that other people pay to know. That is a good thing.

Jason Parker, I wish you luck on your blog redesign. From what I've observed, that part comes easy, specially for those who have resources to hire a good graphics designer.

Keep providing valuable contents, as the review said "you can easily bring this from the minors to the majors in no time"

Thanks for your comment. This review has helped me see the light a little bit, so I've already made some of the critical changes. I'm going to be working on getting a new design this week probably. Looking forward to that.

Someone said nice logo. Got it from logonerds.com :) I like the logo a lot too, so I'll get the designer to work it in the new design.

My idea behind the design in the first place was to make it nice and clean instead of cluttered so people wouldn't be distracted from the information. But I guess it's not all that slick.

Thanks for your compliments on the content. I've made a lot of money with the strategies mostly as an affiliate, so whether others are talking about them or not, these are the ones I find that work well for me and my business partner and JV partners.

I know someone whose $10,000+/month business is based entirely on the strategies of just a few articles on the site.

I don't know if I have what it takes to ever be a big time blogger like John Chow. I'm probably not nearly as entertaining. But what I do know is that some great strategies... some cutting edge, some that just plain work... are going to continue to be posted on the blog... and I have faith we'll continue attracting the type of readers that want that sort of thing.

Jason, for your info... Your fade in script doesn't work for me. (latest firefox) the screen turns blue, and something flashes up, but then is gone before you can see what it was.

You might want to have that checked out too.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just noticed the same thing today too after I upgraded to the latest firefox. I need to upgrade the plug in I think. I'm using something called Action Popup.

I thoroughly agree with the sentiment that both aesthetics and content is important for a successful blog or site. I especially like the gold brick/manure pile metaphor! Very creative!

This is a really helpful post, because what some consider professional really isn't and you have pointed out where improvements need to be made.

I would like to make money online, but don't have anything to sell really and it seems everyone is pushing the same affiliates and links. What are some other things to offer?

Agreed, but there are plenty of other ways to make money online rather than just promoting the same thing everyone else is.

If only there was a website or something that listed various ways to make money...

The design is pretty horrible. They need a new designer.

the domain might not be instantly recognizable, but I gotta give him props for a cool logo.

Probably should say Professional Internet Marketer in block text underneath though.

Just a thought.

Its really nice to see that your blog is giving so much exposure to many professional. Although he is quite famous but still there are few people who never heard about him and they visit your blog.

So through JohnChow dot com they get to know many good, professional and helpful people.

I never heard about him before I read this article. It doesn't mean I don't think he was famous at all, it's just I hadn't the chance to find any information about him and his success.... as a matter of fact, I haven't seen his story on other blog I visited. That's probably why he paid a review on John Chow...

It still amazes me to this day how many readers of this blog ignore the byline at the top of the article (and the difference in writing style) before thanking John for a great post. It amazes me even more than Jason Parker didn't notice.

I noticed after I said something.

Thanks for the review.

I think it really helped me get my About Page together... and put some proof elements on the blog, like the video in the sidebar... Added a couple other things you suggested too. ...Your review plus comments is helping me adjust a few things around so I can get this blog off the ground.

...Who is your blog designer?

My blog was designed by Matt Freedman. You can get in touch with him via http://weblogdesign.ca/.

Thanks pal. Much appreciated.

Interesting thoughts..

thanks for a good post about internet marketing, for me it is useful information

Good article; it seems like people either forget the content, or forget the aesthetics. Both are important!!!

I don't believe in gurus, I use common sense, SY

Thanks for the laugh.

Is this a free paid review for people who took membership mastermind from John?

How can a Free Review can be called a "Free Paid Review"...just free review would be fine...

If there were a free review for those who took the membership mastermind, I would have certainly took it as the price of a review on John Chow is about $500! I don't remenber how much cost the blog mastermind though..

Great honest critique John. Jason, what about a tagline or something up top that explains succinctly what ProImer is?

That's not a bad idea. Thanks.

This guy is pathetic to say the least. Pro Internet Marketer ? LOL :)

Get well soon Jason Parker !

Pathetic... How so?

great critque.
i think i might pay to have my blog on the chopping block next.

I think the design of the blog is decent, although I agree that it's not very user friendly. I need a couple of minutes to get used to the main page layout.

And if I may add, there's no favicon to make the site looks even more professional and easier to notice (if you bookmark it into your Firefox toolbar).

I agree about the favicon. It only takes about 15 or 20 min to make one and only seconds to change the colors, and it makes a site stand out so much.

About ProIMer, it looks like he may have already made a few small useability changes since John wrote the review. There are now archives, although they are written as full post, not titles/excerpts. I look forward to seeing if he makes any of the changes John suggested.

Blake

Yeah, I've been working on it since seeing the review this morning. =)

Thanks for the tip about the Favicon.

...I'm just going to get a designer to go buck wild on the blog and redo everything.

If you have a single artistic/design bone in you, you can make your own favicon using MS Paint. Might work as a good temp fix.

If you're having a designer redo everything right away, it probably isn't worth you time since they should do that if they are good.

John mentions how to implement the favicon in his free eBook ;-)

Blake

I don't have an artistic bone in my body. lol...

I just pay others to do that kind of stuff for me so I can focus on the big $ stuff.

The point that John was making is not about the design. The design according to him is not up to the standard for the Niche. It does not look like a internet marketing design is the point he makes.

Thanks for the honest review John. I knew if there's anyone who can give me the info I need to be a real blogger (I'm not really) and turn this into an authority blog like yours, then it would be someone like you.

I'm planning on printing this review out and working on my About page, getting a designer to create a better template, and working on writing more fluid blog posts... and anything else you mention.

Not the most flattering review, but good to see you have taken the comments with humility and are taking the advice on board.

Good luck

Definitely not flattering haha... but very useful to me. I've already made a lot of key changes because of the review.

I'm not really a blogger, so I figured I'd have a real blogger tare my blog apart. I think it helped put me on the fast track to becoming a good blogger, much more so than just reading a book or blog on blogging.

Great way to respond to a negative review is improving. You have your ears in place for constructive ideas. I am really impressed with your comment.

You definitely have the right spirit! SY

I have seen that guy, he seems very professional, wish some day I could be so professional.

I wonder what you guys would say about the theme on my blog www.money-era.com. I like it, how about you?

I personally really like your design. Just add favicon to complete your site, man. I always find sites with favicon have more authority and credibility.

Thank you for a tip! Will look into that :-)
