Review My Blog – Seventh Batch

written by John Chow on January 3, 2007

How to make $593 in less than one hour

Just when you thought the review for linkback reviews were over and done with, another batch comes in. The contest may be over but bloggers are still submitting reviews so they can get a linkback. Why would they do this? Because a link from a highly ranked blog (1,327th biggest blog on the net according to Technorati) can be worth more than the prize I gave away.

Getting linked by other blogs is one of the most important traffic and SEO tools. Google decides where to rank you on search results based on how many sites and blogs link to you. The more links, the higher you rank. Getting links is also the key to earning a high Google PageRank.

If you’re a new blogger in search of some linking love, then consider doing a review of John Chow dot Com. If you do, I’ll link to it, send you some traffic, and Google will like you too. Here’s the latest batch of reviews.

Feel free to comment on the reviews you read (either on their blogs or here). I’m sure the feedback will help the bloggers improve themselves.

John I think I warned you this will happen. You are too popular. :)

Any bets going on how many more will come over 2007? I’m betting another 50 throughout the year.

This blog is taking over the interweb!

Stew January 3, 2007 at 11:03 pm

I didn’t realize there would be so many batches. I would’ve definitely opted in to the review.

John Chow January 3, 2007 at 11:05 pm

Stew – I am still accepting reviews for links.

My eternal question is how do you do a blog that garners links, gets mentioned, works, in fact, and still do a blog you actually want to work on?
I don’t want to be a food blog, although cookery, kitchens and food subjects take up a lot of my space. I want to be a chef who has another thought sometimes.
I am so bored with blogs that consist of cooking up recipes from books and then photographing what you made… it’s the original people I go to when I seek out foodie blogs, and there aren’t many of them.
I know at least one of the blogs on your list, and if she has links, they are impossible to find in the airplane hangar size of her multi-subject blog.

John,

Do you know how many of these bloggers are able to track how many hits they get as opposed to how many they send your way?

Linkbacks are good and all but I’m curious about traffic details!

Leftblank January 4, 2007 at 3:04 am

HMTKSteve, I don’t think it’s about traffic being send trough, in fact I’ve “only” had 142 reads from John Chow dot Com, while John’s website will receive quite a lot of linkbacks – which are very positive for Technorati ranking as well as SE rankings. So I think the deals are still pretty fair, even though I might not be sending much traffic back ;)

JohnChow.com is becoming a new forum for chat on the internet!

Eric January 4, 2007 at 9:36 am

John,

I know I’m late to the game, but I threw up a review of JohnChow.com on EricByers.com.

Thanks!

Raghu January 4, 2007 at 9:39 am

John,

Now that this reviews have come to an end – what is your assessment from all the reviews you have received – anything drastic going to change on your blog ?

Jez January 4, 2007 at 2:56 pm

Hi HMTK Steve,

Ill post back with how many hits I get, dont reckon it will be that many as its one link of many, in one post of many.

Im not really doing it for traffic, I am hoping it will help with SEO, any backlink is valuable to a new blogger, and the opportunity to get one from a site like this really cool, so thanks John!

John Chow January 4, 2007 at 4:43 pm

Steve – According to my Analytics stats, none of the blogs that reviewed me has sent me enough traffic to be in the top 10 referring sources. I don’t have much info on how much traffic I sent them.

Raghu – I don’t see things changing much. I still treat this as a personal blog.

Ismu, a celebrity now? He’s always been known as the root of all evil, hasn’t he? :)

“I know at least one of the blogs on your list, and if she has links, they are impossible to find in the airplane hangar size of her multi-subject blog.”

That would be me? (hi, Judith!) If so, what kinds of links are you looking for in there? The few review-type things I’ve ever gotten are on linked from http://www.beginningwithi.com/site/

As for stats on what kind of traffic are being generated by John’s link to me (thanks, John!), I’ll be happy to share my experience. Yesterday I got 19 visitors from JohnChow.com.

Interestingly, the same day I got about 130 visitors from a comment I left on zephoria.org, even though my comment did not specifically “ask” for traffic and gave no impression that there was anything more to read on that particular topic on my site.

How many batches are you going to take?
