Barely a day after getting back from the Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival in Whistler, we’re packing our bags again and heading to San Francisco for Ad:Tech.
Ad:Tech is the event for digital marketing. All the who’s who of the Internet advertising world will be there. The keynote speaker is George Kliavkoff, Chief Digital Officer at NBC Universal. If you’re wondering what a “Digital Officer” does, George oversees the distribution of digital products across multiple platforms (on-demand, interactive TV, broadband, wireless, IPTV), digital innovation, product development, portal and partner relationships. That’s what it say on the bio page anyway. As a great a guy George is, I’m more interested in the keynote from Digg founder, Kevin Rose. Maybe I can ask him why I’m on auto bury.
This is our first Ad:Tech and I’m really looking forward to checking out the show and San Francisco. Joining Sarah and I for this little adventure to the bay are Bob Buskirk, Greg Morgan, Ian Lee and Ms. Danielle. If you see me on the show floor, make sure you say hello!

One of the most common complaint (or excuse) I hear from potential new bloggers is they don’t know how to install WordPress. Terms like FTP and CPanel are like a foreign language and setting up a database might as well be setting up the space shuttle for a launch. Because of the technology barrier, many would-be bloggers never start their blogs...

I wish I could go but I’m too far!
The life of a Dot Com Mogul sounds like a nice life. San Francisco is pretty cool, have fun.
JC’s a real jet setter isn’t he!
Yea, he’s livin’ large. I’m waiting for him to announce some major purchase like a new home or at least the Corvette ZR1 he reviewed a few months ago.
Now THAT would be a cool post. Up close pics and videos of that Corvette. Talk about motivation.
Then all of his tax tips and pretending to live like a simple man won’t work for him :p
I wish that I could go.
If you see John Chow on the floor, make sure you check for a pulse and call for paramedics if he doesn’t say Hello Back! You know how those high profile bloggers are dropping dead these days
It would probably be from all that expensive fattening food he’s been eating lately.
At least the health care is free in Canada

LMFAO I’d forgotten about the coverage. Crazy fools.
Sounds good. I think I would be interested to hear the founder of Digg speak.
John if you need an assistant for all travel needs let me! I can carry your bags
Bring your Flip camera for when you ask him why you’re banned on Digg! I’d be interested in seeing that video!
Ha ha good question that would be :p
Getting banned from Digg is probably a sign that you’re doing something right. Submitting your own posts and articles and driving a ton of traffic to your sight is nice setup.
Everytime John gets banned somewhere his RSS numbers go up!
Yeah, I have seen the same trend… He was penaltised with his PR ….most people lost all their revenue … John’s revenue and subscribers increased.
I would love to go to this, would deffinitely earn a few things. San Fransisco is an amazing city to boot.
Man, leaving again. What time are you picking me up? Even though you don’t have an official job, you are one busy business man!

The jobless entrepreneurs are usually the busiest among us. It’s quite funny, actually. But even if they’re busy, it doesn’t matter because they love what they do.
Yeah, if only I was on the western side of the continent for one! I hope you have fun and take a ton of pictures!
Cool deal…sounds liek a great thign to go to. I’m just gettign into the biz so hopefully maybe one day I will be attending these too
Take notes John, and don’t forget to grab some videos with that (new) (extra cool) camera you got (for free).
Cheers,
Allen
It seems there is some type of event every other day. I wish I made enough to travel as much as you do John

I wish I could go to SF. By far the best city to visit in U.S.
I promise I see you at the Ad tech event in NY..
Ha, if you ask Kevin that, you have got to post his response. This will be classic.
Yea that would be great John if you could ask Rose why he buries your content. Just imagine how much more traffic you’d get from Digg. You could charge more for advertising, no wait…those Digg weenies do click on ads, I forgot.
Lucky me, I work in the city. Hopefully I’ll see you Wednesday or Thursday John. Cheers!
I wish I lived in America so I could attend these things…Even though I couldn’t afford it. Ha.
The life and times of an internet guru is tough. You are the modern Robin Hood of internet advice.
Cheers.
Hey, I will be there John,
let’s take a picture together. lol…
It’s good to have chance to attend. But it is tooo far for me…
–blog for dream–
Actually this is probably going to be a pretty good one. On at least 3 other blogs I read I’ve heard people talking about going, so I think a lot of good video and blog posts are gonna show up in the next week.
And I was just flirtin’ on myspace with a woman in SF last night too…
What did the SF girl from myspace say?
Hahahahaha
She actually wrote-let me copy and paste this
“come n get it”
I’ve attended Ad:Tech NYC for the past 2 years, and I’m not really impressed.. For someone like you, I don’t see much benefit from this show. (The parties are fun, but that’s about it)
Hey John, you should come to Adtech: Miami also…
Maybe we can meet then :p
Hey John, or anyone else for that matter, any suggestions on any other events on the West coast to take in this year. And how about some suggestions on any places that list upcoming events. I know some good IT shows like Linux World and Web 2.0 are coming up but I never seem to get info on any marketing shows like Ad:Tech.
I hope to meet some of you guys before we retire from this world.
You are a great tool of inspiration for me John!
