Shanghai International Home Entertainment Expo
The Shanghai International Home Entertainment Expo is one of those shows that sprang up because of the continuing increase in income and wealth in China. The show takes place at the Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Centre from May 31 to June 1 and features some of the top high-end brands in the world.
Like many people, I’m into high-end audio and video. However, some of this stuff borders on plain stupidity. Does anyone need to spend $7,700 USD on a speaker cable? I’m willing to bet that most people wouldn’t be able to hear the sound difference between that and a lamp cord. Then again, the high-end cable does look a lot more impressive. A lot of these accessories can be considered audio jewelery. A Timex and Rolex both tell time equally well but which one do you want on your wrist?

Rolex? Timex? Nah, I prefer to carry a vintage Elgin pocket watch made in the USA. Many of them still retain very high values, it’s not uncommon to see them going for $5,000 or even $10,000, some of them are encrusted with jewels and many are cased in gold. Elgin also made wrist watches, but you get the point.
Sounds like you’re having a lot of fun in China. Wish I could join you there!
Reply to this commentprefect weather for a perfect expo..but isn’t the room small??
Reply to this commentYeah, that’s a ridiculous amount of money for a speaker cable whether you can afford it or not. Rip off.
Reply to this commentWhat do you use for your high audio turntables? My husband who is an audiophile swears by the VPI scoutmaster series over at http://www.vpiindustries.com - that was the center around which much of our personal high end audio is built.
Enjoy,
Barbara
Reply to this commentCongratulation for that show, hope this shows get successful.
Reply to this commentThe strange part of the video was the name “The exorcist” inside a frame in the table where the Black Spike speakers were displayed. What is supposed to do? Keep the evil away from your house?
Reply to this commentOh, but I do wish I had money to throw around for stuff like that!
Reply to this commentIt’s not stupid at all. Why buy a big house over a small one? Why buy an exotic over a hatchback? If you have the money and you’re into music, buy em.
Reply to this commentI heard that some factories (steel mills, smokestack-type operations) in China were going to shut down a couple months early for the Olympics to ensure better air quality. Maybe that’s why you saw blue skies.
Reply to this commentThe turntable is not dead. At the last few CES shows in Vegas, there were booths showing off the latest turntables - albeit targeting the DJ space.
Reply to this commentI just never thought a speaker cable could cost $7,000. Wow.

Reply to this commentJohn,
That $7,700 you interested in is insane - Does it makes any difference listening to Il Divo’s singing with the speaker stuff, I wonder?
Reply to this commentWhat are you gonna do with it……you are FILTHY rich to buy that!
Reply to this commentI hope to see a video with that thing in your house.
That is 8.2 surround as I can see 2 subwoofers
Reply to this commentWhat kind of deal are they running at the Home Entertainment Expo, there isn’t any food!
