Sights and Sound from San Francisco

On the last day of Ad:Tech San Francisco, we decided to take a drive out to Berkeley to visit Redux, the makers of FlickIM. Redux is a venture funded startup that’s trying to take over the entire Web 2.0 world (like all startups are). My friend Tyler Dikman is one of the founders.

We also head out to Fisherman’s Wharf to try some world famous clam chowder in a bread bowl. The chowder was good but bread bowl didn’t added much to it. It was a beautiful day and the walk along the pier was really relaxing.

I got a few people asking what kind of hotel charges $48 a day for parking. The answer is the Palace Hotel. As expensive as parking at the Palace was, my room cost 10 times more. At least they give you free bottle water.

    2. MR. NICE GUY says:

San Francisco must have many beauty parlors John than body building centers if we take into account that 1/3 of the people there are gays. Hahaha. 😈 😈 😈 😈

  2. A $480 bottle of water! Nice! Wish we could get more than $1.50 in our concession stand!

    1. Terry Tay says:

I hope it wasn’t just a nice fancy bottle of TAP Water 😆

  3. Mike Huang says:

Hmmm…there’s never parking in SF and you seem to want to stay in the best hotel…so $$$ shouldn’t matter to you John 🙂

    1. zedomax says:

True that, $48 per day is actually $2 cheaper than the $50 parking ticket I got at AdTech. $50 for a parking ticket anywhere in SF downtown, can you believe it???

      1. Sebastian says:

I live in Amsterdam, and parking downtown actually costs 75$ for a full day here.

  4. Paolo U says:

    Nice stuff 😈 !

  5. $480 buck a night for a room. must have been suite!

    1. Terry Tay says:

    2. Sha says:

That reminds me of when me & my family stayed at The Beverly Hilton. It was $400 a night. We didn’t stay there for long, but I loved it. The rooms looked like posh apartments.

  6. Manteigas says:

Well .. Then this is the famous John Chow’s blog?
It is beautiful. I liked it. In addition gives money, it is not true? 😆
Did you know that in Lisbon (Portugal) we have a bridge very similar to San Francisco-Oakland Bay bridge?

  7. Danny Tsang says:

Did you see the bush man during your walk at the pier? I had an out of town friend to who visited and the guy scared the crap out of him lol.

  8. Alex says:

    Nice video John 🙂
What do you think of I honestly think that it is another copy cat of meboo, since it’s web based, or even pidgin which I use a lot now or trillian which I used to use. I just wrote a very similar article about that for the new facebook chat app. on my blog, so do you think it’s a copy cat? or is it a new unique product that will actually see the lights soon.

    1. John Chow says:

FlickIM isn’t Redux’s main product. I think they did it just as an exercise. I can’t tell you what Redux’s main product is other than say “People discovery.”

  9. david cheong says:

wow…$48 parking? Hmm high class really high class hotel.

  10. Infogle says:

hmm.. but its just the clone of as meebo has all the instant messaging features… i dont think any thing new on
    isn’t it ?

  11. MR. NICE GUY says:

Nice video Mr. Chow. So that’s how far we can see San Francisco now. You’ve got a nice room too. Love it. But whose taking you video? John Cow? Lol 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

  12. Steve Moyer says:

I’m not surprised that the bowels didn’t add much to your chowder … I would hope they’d clean them out really well! (Though I don’t think I could eat out of them anyway).

Oh wait … you meant bowls … never mind;)

    Can’t hear you too well…

    1. Trekalong says:

I agree with the voice. But I’m ionclined to believe that EVERONE who makes a video either for themselves or professionally ALWAYS, repeat always records the tracking music too high and the voice too soft. I quite often DON’T like the background music so I turn the volume down, then when something is being said I have to race to the volume control to turn it up. As I said this problem is universal so I have no critisism of you. THe San Francisco tour of Redux and the Palce Hotel was very nice. But if going to continue to watch, I will only do so if there is a better balance between voice and MUSIC

  15. Googlelady says:

A free bottle of water? At least no? *sarcasm* 😯

  16. Fitness Site says:

    Nice stuff.
Hotel is too costly for people like me. 😯

  18. Wade says:

Sounds like you had fun John. Ok, now back to the internet, blogs, wordpress, and making that money fool!

  19. Lol. I wonder who the guy on the treadmill was. Just some random dude. Maybe one day he’ll see the video and go “Hey! That’s me!”

  20. Syed Balkhi says:

this looks like a cool place … how big was the pool ? was it olympic size because it looks like it in the video.

  21. Flimjo says:

For $48, I hope they took good care of your car.
