Society of American Travel Writers Convention Opening Ceremony

The Society of American Travel Writers convention open last night with ceremony speeches given by the SATW president, the head of Germany’s tourism industry and other honor guests. The event was held at the Intern. Congress Center in Dresden and it a beautiful place to hold the convention. There was a great view of the river and the weather has been awesome.

Here are some photos and video from the opening night. I’ve met a lot of great people and I’m having a really good time. I’m looking forward to going on some of the tours that Germany and the SATW have set up for us.

I have the honor of doing the opening keynote for the SATW today. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll be recording it with my Teleprompt+ iPad app and will try to make it available on the blog. Talk to you guys later!

      1. Interesting that American Travel Writers have a convention in Germany. By the looks of the crowd – their age, they must have been at it for a while.

John, I wonder if you’ll see much beer drinking in Saxony.

I doubt it. It’s not like Bavaria.

        1. John Chow says:

They go all over the world. Next year, it will be held in New Zealand. However, every 4 years, they return to America to do the convention.

          1. You were looking great in suit …

            Nice to see that change.

After looking those great images I am feeling hungry.

      1. This seems to be the theme of a lot of the comments on this post. Very boring. If you are hungry just go and eat something and come back with a comment that shows some originality.

It’s good that John is having a good time and that he’s sharing the pictures and video and his impressions.

I wonder if he picks up any German words during his stay there.

John Chow in a suit – now I’ve seen everything!

    1. Alex Dumitru says:

It was the case, don’t you think ? 🙂

      1. Dan Lew says:

It seems that you have to be in the industry for a long time like these older writers to go to this convention. 🙂

        1. Hey Tyler,

This is the first time I’ve seen John in a suit too.

With the older crowd as his audience I think he needed to wear it in order to be respected by them.

They may have even required him to be dressed that way.

  10. Dan Lew says:

Nice pancake, the meet looks a bit raw though

  11. Great to see the photos and video from this conference. The food looks great ! Thanks for sharing this post. It’s nice to know there is a convention for travel writers and I’m adding it to my list of conferences to go to in the next few years.
