I'll be looking out for your analysis of this site targeted advertising test you're running John. Something I've been looking at doing for a while, as it seems possible to yield a good result in new return visitors.

Philomena Ojikutu - I burned through the Plenty Of Fish budget pretty fast! That site can deliver a lot of traffic! But the ad is not converting well so I pause the campaign.

John - you are right (of course you would be). I guess I just lucked out and pulled the same banners one after another one too many times. They still repeat as I scroll down the page, but a larger rotation should make that negligable. :)

Tony - The footer banners are random. They should display something different after every post. However, I guess that is not always the case. When the blog loads, it pull from a pool of 15 banners. I guess I need to add more banners to the rotation to make sure every post is different.

Looking forward to your analysis of how all this advertising turns out!

Speaking of ads, I'd like to point out that (in my opinion) having the _same_ TTZ banner display at the footer of every post (front page) looks kind of bad. Perhaps you could space them out a little (after every other post?) and see if you can make them display different products, not the same one over and over.

Unfortunately John,

my site is a romance and telenovela genre, not the kind of targeted traffic for your 'tech industry ramblings' here. I wonder what "Plenty of fish" traffic could give you either, definitely, not a targeted traffic. Perhaps it could chip in a positive balance from your
"IntelliTXT" ads income.

Good luck John. It's fun isn't it! I can't remember if I tried SiteMatch ads on problogger but I imagine the CPM will be fairly high.

I've tried SiteMatch on a few other popular websites so far. The trick might be to find those gems that are not already overexposed to SiteMatch ads. The obvious low CPM high CTR. The other key is to write an ad that will draw clicks.

I also run a new personal finance blog (among several other websites). I did a search for "personal finance blog" in Google and put SiteMatch ads on almost every website (competitors) in the first 30 results. Only a few of them had any SiteMatch advertisers on them at all. Some of the websites were not getting a high enough click-thru ratio so I disabled those websites but I found a few competitors where I was getting a fairly high CTR for the CPM. And this was very targetted traffic.

I have not seen your ad on Webmaster-Talk.com yet. Maybe you need to raise the CPM a bit. Maybe to $20 CPM or so. ...haha ;)
