Standing On Top Of The World

Today was our first official day in Shanghai, and I decided to take Sally over to the Pudong financial district to check out the Oriental Pearl Radio Tower. This is the tallest tower in Asia, and offers an amazing view of Shanghai. The tower holds a special place in my heart because it was at the top of this tower where I asked Sarah to marry me.

I am often asked what is the number one reason for my success, and my answer has been the same every time. The number one reason for my Internet success is…

My wife.

Wasn’t the answer you were expecting, was it? Well it’s true, and let me tell you why. You can be the most knowledgeable person in the world about blogging and Internet marketing but if you don’t have the support of your wife or significant other, it’s really really hard to be a success at anything.

Behind Every Successful Man is a Woman

I was doing OK before I met Sarah. However, I didn’t hit big time until she came into my life. No, she wasn’t some Internet guru or superstar blogger. She knew nothing about that stuff. What she did offer was a positive family environment and unwaivering support for whatever it was that I wanted to do. She was my number one cheerleader and inspired me to levels I never dreamed possible. You will be amazed at the things you can do when you have a truly supportive wife or girlfriend backing you.

Get Your Relationships In Order

Blogging is about relationships. If you have a negative relationship with your readers, the blog is not going to succeed. However, if you have a negative relationship with your wife, your blog’s success is the least of your worries. If you truly want to be successful, have a successful relationship with your wife/girlfriend first. The rest will fall into place.

For those who are single, and there are a lot of you, take heart. You have a better chance at building a successful Internet business than most couples because you don’t have to deal with any of the negative crap that seems to fall onto many relationships. However, the chance of you beating a couple who are in sync with each other is very slim. But don’t worry. Successful people don’t remain single for long.

The Pearl Tower has changed quite a bit since I last visited it. The outside looks the same, but quite a number of new features were added to the inside. The two main additions are a roller coaster at the 90 meter pearl, and a glass walkway at the 259 meter level. It’s a good thing Sally and I are not scare of heights!

I made a video of our trip up the Pearl Tower, but since both YouTube and Vimeo are blocked in China, you’ll have to wait while I figure out another way to get the video uploaded.

*Update – Video has been uploaded to YouTube. No great firewall is going to stop me!

What a great blog post, John! That’s one thing that endears me to you most – your view of your daughter and wife. That’s why you put out quality products – because to do anything less would be to put their future at risk.

I have a fear of heights so those pictures scare the crap out of me, but it’s beautiful! I just ended a toxic relationship – so I hope to now have a peaceful future and focus all my energy on what’s best for my babies 🙂

    Enjoy your trip!

    Hi everyone,

very good for you John. You are very lucky person. You are talking about realtionship and support of a partner but what if the spouse don’t want to support you because she/he thinks that you cannot make money on the internet? That blogging is crap?

    It is very tough then.

But I wish you all the best and have a wonderful time.

    See you on top.

    Hey John,

This quote: Behind Every Successful Man is a Woman
is pretty popular in Asian countries, and I’ve been taught exactly like that from people around me. It’s very interesting to see you mention this quote in your post John.

When I started out in 2010 I told my husband I will get him a helicopter 🙂

Well, he is still waiting for that one, cracks jokes about it, but at least he lets me do whatever I want to do with my blogs.

  7. John, this is what I like about you most, the fact that you bring a human face to the business. Not just: the next product launch or making 40 figures a month. That is why I joined

    Hi john,
I like this post very mush, because I believe, you wrote it from the heart, it maybe not informative but, there’s no doubt it’s highly inspirational and full of truth and warm feelings, to be honest, I started to follow you up since two months ago when I got your training course “Blogging with John Chow” and I have to admit it, I have benefited greatly from the course and your blog posts here as well … my heartily greetings to your wife, Sarah the woman who stood behind your success, and to your cute nice daughter, Sally wishing her a great successful future like her father, and to you, John … wishing you more success!! …. be blessed!
