Testing The Canon HF S100 At EuroFest BC

EuroFest BC is an annual event held at the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby. The yearly event attracts thousands of people and offers cultural displays and stage performances from all the European countries. It was a great day for the festival. The sun was out and the weather was perfect.

EuroFest also offered a great opportunity for me the test out the new Canon Vixia HF S100 HD camcorder. This is the first time I have used all the accessories. The DM-100 mic with its fuzzy wind shield did a great job capturing the sounds of the festival while blocking out the wind. The Manfrotto 785B tripod was also a pleasure to use, allowing me to get some really great clips.

I am really enjoying my new HD video setup. The quality between it and the old Flip is like night and day. I plan to do a series on adding HD videos to your blog in the future. Keep an eye out for it. In the mean time, check out the sights and sounds of EuroFest BC. The photos were taken with the Vixia HF S100 as well.

I am sure you have picked the right camera and before buying this one you have done also research a bit.

So according to you ... what three qualities should we look for.

I have a Cannon of my own. I would never buy another camera other than Cannon.

Out of all the cameras you've shown on your blog so far, this one has to be the best. Calling the photo & video qualities amazing would be an understatement.

The videos are looking slick. I got a kick out of one of your still shots ---- it looked like there were about 10 more cameras in the audience in that picture alone.

Awesome quality of the video and pics

The high quality of video and of pictures add more impression and joy of that great festival.

I think I'm actually most impressed by the quality of the still pictures. I have taken quite a few photos over the years and even some with a $6K HD Video camera and never have I seen stills that looked that good from a video camera. I have certainly seen SLR and pro cameras do better, but we are talking about amature photography on a consumer video camera. Excellent.

Agreed. The stills look like they were taken by a professional photographer. Fantastic.

I've decided to go give this camera a test drive by renting it from my nearby retailer. I like the results and it fits my type of activity.

The details with this camera are great. I somehow feel as if I was there with you. I'm really thinking about acquiring a new HD camera like yours someday.

Wow...I wouldn't have even known there was wind there that day if you hadn't mentioned it! The sound was perfect...looking forward to more videos shot with this camera :)

Didn't the clip with the flags flapping in the wind give you a clue? :)

Quoite a festive festival and the HF S100 takes some nice quality HD videos.

Music sounds good with the video.

Loving the quality on that camera.

I just got an HD point-n-shoot camera, still have to do some testing with it, but nowhere near as nice as yours. Is it tough carrying that big thing around with you? How much does it weigh?

Great quality camera... I like how to focus in on unsuspecting people in the crowd. Evil! haha

It's pretty easy to carry around. I have a nice case for it that holds everything perfectly. The tripod is one of the most compact in the industry thanks to its 4 leg extensions. The entire setup is weights about five pounds.
