The 100 Day Celebration

written by John Chow on December 18th, 2006

Last night was Sally’s 100 day celebration. By tradition, we celebrate a baby’s first month and first 100 days in the world. The 100 day celebration is a lot smaller than the 1 month celebration I held on October 15th. That party was attended by 100 friends and family members. By comparison the 100 day celebration was attended by just 10 people - my parents, Sarah’s parents and a few close friends.

We went to the Neptune Sharkfin Seafood Restaurant in Richmond and we ordered up a feast fit for royalty. On the menu were Alaska King Crab, Peking Duck and a bunch of other dish that looks very scary, but taste very good. Here are some pics.

There was actually more food than this, but I don’t want to make you too hungry by posting everything. :)

Wow look at that food! Now I’m hungry. Why didn’t anyone celebrate my 100th day on earth?

Though not many people celebrate my birthday these days including myself.

Maybe a trip out to Richmond is in order!

That looks delicious! (The baby. I eat babies, not food.) Just kidding. Happy 100 days, Sally!

I’ve noticed a trend these past few years as far as how Peking Duck is served. I’m born and raised in Vancouver, and growing up, they always tried to make the slices as thin as possible, making it all crispy skin if at all possible. Nowadays, though, they seem to cut it so that there is a big chunk of meat along with the skin.

I talked to my parents about that and they think that the thinly sliced idea is more of a Hong Kong style, whereas the meatier variant is more like Mainland China, and seeing how there are more immigrants from the Mainland these days than say, 10-15 years ago, that’s why the restaurants have started to take that route too.

Do you happen to know?

When I tried Peking Duck in Beijing, it was a lot fattier than the Peking Duck you get from back home.

That king crab looks damn good.

Reminds me of the dinner I had last week in Motomachi ’s China town in Yokohama. Delicious! Congratulations to you and your family on Sally’s 100th day.
